SATURDAY, APRIL 25, 1925 PREPARE TO OPEN TROUT SEASON Anglers Advised to Get Into High Back Country This Year With the opening on May 1 of the trout season, anglers are getting their lines and tackle ready to catch this sportiest of all sporty fish. They are advised this year to get back into the high country if they can for the best trout fishing, as plenty of water has fallen in the past months there. Low waters in many streams has dampened hopes of much success this year in those fields. But vacations and trips of a few days' duration will undoubtedly be spent by seasoned sportsmen in the higher mountain country where gleaming beauties are plentiful, yet rare prizes to be fought for. Large numbers of So. Calif. anglers will migrate this season, according to custom, to the region in the Southern Sierras extending from Bridgeport to Little Lake on the eastern slope and from Huntington Lake to Kern river on the western slope. With camping luggage many will journey there for their annual summer vacation. The motor traveler will spend from one to three miniature W.T.A.M. Will Come Here The model in miniature of WTAM, the Willard broadcasting station, largest in Cleveland, has not reached A. Bevillard of the Anaheim Ignition Depot., but is expected. Exact in every detail, down to the insulators in the antenna, this model is a remarkable piece of work. The model, showing the towers, the building and the surrounding grounds, is mounted on a table and will be shipped all over the country for display purposes at radio shows and exhibits. A special arrangement of Willard batteries provides lights inside the miniature bungalow. The reproduction is in exact proportion and made to scale from blueprints and specifications used by the contractors in building the original. With the station model on its tour of the country, goes a large wall map of the United States and portions of Canada and Mexico. MAINTAIN CLEAN HIGHWAYS, CRY Keep the highways clear of rubbish. An educational campaign has been launched by the civic bodies and State officials to persuade the motorist to refrain from throwing refuse from automobiles on streets and public highways, according to a bulletin issued by the National Auto Club. This plan has the endorsement of the Club officials, and steps have been taken to cooperate in this movement. Sunday plenickers are not the only offenders in this matter, according to officials who made an inspection trip last week. Papers and refuse of all kinds are often thrown from an automobile and accumulate in unsightly heaps. BETTER YEAR IN 1925 IS FORECAST Trend of Accessory Manufactures Past Year Toward Trade The trend of business in 1925 was pronounced toward trade itself, rather than toward vehicles manufacturers, according to the Mator and Accessory Manufacturers' Ass'n, which predicts that activity will be considerable larger this year than last. Sales to vehicle manufacture fell off 3.7 per cent and to trade gained 11.5. Specialty replacement jobbers particularly benefited in the new business. General jobbers' sales decline 8.9 per cent. The association put out a questionnaire, and the facts regarding the 1924 business are embodied in the report issued. Gain of ten per cent in business and also profits this year is all forecast. 4 CARS SOLD IN 1 DAY BY TURTO Mrs Florence Barmes on Tuesday purchased an Oakland coach, G. Ross a used Chalmers coach, I. Herriker Carrier of Fullerton an Oakland coach and Earl Brownfield a Huntington Beach a glass enclosure. sportsmen in the higher mountain country where gleaming beauties are plentiful, yet rare prizes to be fought for. Large numbers of So. Calif. anglers will migrate this season, according to custom, to the region in the Southern Sierra extending from Bridgeport to Little Lake on the eastern slope and from Huntington Lake to Kern river on the western slope. With camping luggage many will journey there for their annual summer vacation. The motor traveler will spend from one to three days to reach streams or lakes in this district, and he seldom starts until June because the melting of winter snows makes traveling bad until that time. Another favored section of like beauty and worth is the Owens Valley country with its many streams and lakes that may be reached by automobile and its trails leading up into higher land to countless hundreds of alpine lakes, teeming with golden rainbow, eastern brook, and blackspotted trout. The weekly report from all sections, an index of fishing, camping and outing facilities, state that Arrowhead Lake, the Rainbow Angling Club's stream near Redlands, Morena Reservoir, Cuyamaca Reservoir, and Big Bear Lake are some of the Southern California waters that give promise of good fishing this year. Both roads leading to Lake Arrow head are reported open; however, the only advisable road to Big Bear Lake is by way of Victorville and the desert. Calif. Beautiful Slogan, As Tourist Rush Started "Fuss up a bit, company's coming." This is a bit of homely advice being broadcast by the Auto Club of So. Calif. to all live-wire communities in this section of the state. The warning is inspired by indications of the greatest influx of tourists So. Calif. ever has known. The big motoring organization is not "shooting in the dark," as it were, for it bases its predictions on the activities of its touring bureau for the first three months of the year. These show that there were 33,050 inquiries from the east regarding motor tours in this section. There were 234,600 telephone calls, 414,418 personal calls, and as indication that vast numbers of motorists are planning to see So. Calif., the distribution of maps for the first three months of this year reached the record-breaking total of more than 3,000,000, or an average of over a million a month. "Clean up and try to look pretty, if not beautiful. Add a little paint and rollish here and there, and try to impress upon your visitors' minds that you are an interesting, wide-awake community," are further hints made to those places which have ambitions toward growth and progress. So. Calif. may reasonably expect a tidy sum from tourist travel, if the figures announced by the National Auto C. of C. are correct. These are that $2,500,000,000 will be spent by motor tourists in the United States this year. This means that Californians with one-thirdthousand of the autos in their own state, and with more than 200,000 motor cars from other states, will reap a harvest of approximately $150,000,000 from motor tourists. Ford Co. Solving Used Car Problem Much interest is now being centered in the recent announcements concerning the Ford used car plan. This interest has been evidenced by both the public and the automotive industry generally, for it is the first move made by any big automobile concern toward solution of the so-called used car problem. Under the plan, which is supervised by the Company, all authorized Ford dealers place a guarantee upon used Ford cars sold by them, thus insuring to the purchaser satisfactory mechanical operation of the cars under ordinary driving conditions. BALBOA-LAGUNA ROAD OPEN JUNE 1 The coast raod between Balboa Palisades and Laguna Beach will be open around June 1, making it possible to drive on continuous pavement from Long Beach to San Diego, the State Highway Commission announced this week. Available to traffic on Wednesday was the new bridge across the north arm of Newport Bay. The bridge is located on the coast boulevard. The direction is from the bridge across the Santa Ana river at the entrance to Newport Harbor's city limits to the former road to the Palisades. The road was badly cut up. Los Angeles St. Anaheim, Calif. SPEEDING AT CROSSINGS GROWS Practically No Reckless Driving or Violating Parking Laws Speeding at intersections still the commonest offence in Anaheim, but one of the strange features if the violations is that they do not occur at the principal crossings in the business section, such as Los Angeles and Browns at Center street. Judge Charles Kuchel said further that there is practically no reckless driving in Anaheim, and exceeding the two-hour parking limit also is unusual, except when an occasional out-of-town does so. At the present rate fines will aggregate more than $1000. Up today $807 had been collected by the Judge in amounts ranging from $5 to $20. Private Garages House Stolen Cars Recent recovery of several high grade stolen automobiles which had been stored in private garages. Cadillac Tow Car Added by Concern Regardless of how badly a car may be wrecked, even tho it loses all four wheels, West Bros. with their two tow cars can bring it in. The firm has just added a Cadillac car painted a handsome blue and white and is about to equip it thoroly. This car will be ready to go anywhere at any time. The concern declared that business had increased markedly in the past 60 or 90 days, and it anticipates an excellent summer. OVERLAND COUPE STIRS ENTHUSIASM Unusual interest among feminine motorist has greeted Willys-Overland's announcement of its two-passenger Overland coupe. Not only is it a light car embodying the manifold advantages of the entire Overland line, but it combines with these a driving comfort and convenience almost incredible in a car of these dimensions. Nowadays, with the male members of the family requiring the use of the car during the day, there is a definite need for a second car in a good many homes, a car that can be used for shopping and visiting by the women folks of the home, says George A. Nolan, Jr., Anaheim distributor. The new coupe has proved itself to be ideally adapted for this purpose. Ventilating windshield, Dura window regulators, rear window curtains are little touches that appeal to feminine taste. Coupled with these features is the ease of parking, and the unusual riding comfort due to the 136-inch spring base. Its ease of handling in congested traffic areas. PASSAGE OF GAS TAX IS DEPLORED Discrimination Against South Pointed Out In Detail Passage of the gasoline tax measure by the assembly in the fact of persistent and strenuous opposition has aroused widespread criticism throughout So. Calif. Althe the representatives and senators from So. Calif. fought valiantly against the measure, the preponderance of numbers was too great to be overcome and the increase of the tax on motorists for the purpose of new state highway construction now is up to the governor to approve or disapprove. "The Auto Club of So. Calif. opposed the law just passed by the state legislature calling for the increase of the gasoline tax for the construction of new state highway system in politics, when in fact, roads are engineering and economic problems and should be handled as such. "The new law imposes the burden of new state highway construction on the motorists alone, which is class legislation, and at variance with the national and state systems of equitable taxation." Private Garages House Stolen Cars Recent recovery of several high grade stolen automobiles which had been stored in private garages, led authorities to warn the public of the law requiring owners of private garages to report the police information regarding their tenants. This report must show make of car, license number, motor number, name and address of owner, state of rental, etc. Regular blanks or filing such information are furnished by the detective bureau, central station, Los Angeles, where such information should be turn-in. The state law provides that in burban district such rentals shall be reported to the sheriff of the county. Experience of the past few weeks according to authorities, indicates property owners are either ignorant of the law, or negligent. Citizens who really want to co-operate in the war against auto thefts lend great aid if they will not only report rentals of garages, but all circumstances that seem all suspicious, to either the nearest police department or to theft bureau of the Auto Club of Calif., which works in close with the authorities and is instantly on the job of recovering stolen cars. FEW 1925 PLATES LEFT Practically all the 1925 licenses obtained by the Anaheim district office of the Auto Club of Calif. have been issued, accorded to word on Thursday. Many plates still are seen about County, however, some arrests are being made.
