UNITED THEATRE TONIGHT AND SATURDAY RIN-TIN-TIN The Wonder Dog in FIND YOUR MAN A SPECTACULAR OUTDOORS MELODRAMA BULGING WITH BRISK ACTION AND THRILL AFTER THRILL. RIN TIN TIN AT UNITED THEATER The wonder dog, Rin-Tin-Tin, will be seen in his second big production, "Find Your Man," at the United Theatre tonight and tomorrow. His screen laurels have almost overshadowed his other claims to fame. There are few who know he is a champion high jumped with a score of medals to his credit. In spite of all that Rin-Tin-Tin is unspoiled. He is above everything else a man's dog and loves a virile out-of-doors role that shows him at his best. He enjoys nothing quite so much as a good fight and was overjoyed to find that his new starring role calls for rapid action and a chance to show his athletic prowess. "Find Your Man" is a story of the great North Woods and gives the wonder dog a wonderful opportunity to display all his marvelous abilities. June Marlowe, a beautiful newcomer to the screen, and Erie St. Clair head an interesting supporting cast, which includes such GIBBONS-TUNNEY MATCH ADVANCED NEW YORK, April 17.—Permission to change the date for the Gibbons-Tunney match from June 12 to June 5 was granted today by the New York Boxing Commission to the Polo Grounds Athletic club. BREA BEARCATS BEAT DOMINGUEZ The Brea Bearcats a team sponsored by the Shell Co., at Brea traveled to Dominguez yesterday and trounced the hard hitting drillers 8 to 6. The game was the final of a series of three. Previous to this game the series stood one all. With nine hits the Brea boys scored eight run. In the first inning Neal the first man up hit the first pitched ball to deep left for a triple and scored the first tally immediately thereafter when Orahood singled thru short. Orahood scored when Clayton let Howard's throw go through him. These two runs were the deciding factors being the margin by which Brea won. Valente for the winners pitched his usual high class game, allowing the Drillers only six scattered hits. Griffith, a youngster, received Valente's offerings in major league style. Wellins' double play in the last half of the last inning was the feature of the game. Hollenbeck had doubled and was on second. Tollman flew out to Neal; Hill hit a low fly to Wellin who touched second base doubling Hollenbeck. The Brea boys have won three out of their last four starts and look like steady winners. ZANE GREY FILM AT CALIFORNIA Two great "rushes" across the continent mark the history of the West's development. Watching Scoreboard Yesterday's hero, Eddie Rommel, held the Red Sox scoreless after the first inning and hit a homer with two runners on base helping the Athletics win their third straight game 7 to 1. Hard hitting off four Brooklyn pitchers enabled the Phils to win their first game of the season 8 to 1. Three runs scored in the ninth inning with two down gave the White Sox a 4 to 2 victory over the Tigers. Goose Goslin accounted for four runs with two homers and helped the Senators beat the Yankees 7 to 5. Washington scored five runs in the ninth inning, Goslin and Judge hitting successive home runs off Urban Shocker. Charley Hartnett hit two homers and helped the Cubs beat the Pirates 8 to 3. Cincinnati took possession of first place in the National league by winning the third straight game from the Cards 7 to 3. Rixey did not allow a hit after the second inning. With a barrage in the ninth inning that blasted McNamara out of the box, the Giants beat the Brayes 8 to 1. Two runs scored by Glenn Myatt, star catcher, enabled Cleveland to beat the Browns 2 to 1. Myatt's homer in the ninth cinched the game. VAUDEVILLE AND CAREY AT CALIF. With their freak musical instruments there is not another act of this kind on the stage today. "Bender and Knapp" present a novel athletic exhibition in a mighty clever manner. "Lucian Lucca" is a marvelous double voiced vocal wonder. Hall-Logan Trio offer a talking, singing and comedy hit that will surely make you laugh. "Swang and Farrell" in "A Wise Jay" present an eccentric comedy singing, talking and acrobatic dancing skit, church full of good humor. That Harry Carey can make an audience laugh as well as thrill is said to be proven by "Soft Shoes," his new Hunt Stromberg production which is the feature play attraction for Friday and Saturday. "Soft Shoes" is a picture entirely different from anything in which this popular western star has ever been seen. Although it starts and ends in the great open spaces of the far west, the majority of its action is laid in the underworld of San Francisco. Tonight is the final appearance of "Balto and Kasson" and their big dog team, heroes of that historic dash to Nome with the anti-toxin. A Mack Sennett Comedy, "Inbad the Sailor" and an Aesop Fable completes the program. NEW WORLD MARKS ST. PAUL, April 17—Willie Ritola and Willie Plant hung up new world's records in the opening of the two day all star track meet at the Hippodrome last night. Ritola clipped six seconds off the 5000 meter run, doing it in 13 minutes 38 seconds. Paavo Nurmi held the old record. Plant walked 2500 meters in 10 minutes 37 seconds, clipping 10 second off the record formerly held by Ugo Frigerio. NEW YORK—Sammy Mandell and Sid Terris, leading contenders for the world's lightweight championship, may be matched to meet at the new Coney Island stadium on May 26, the club announced. Terris has accepted terms and a reply is being awaited from Mandell. NEW HAVEN, Conn.—Tony Travers, New Haven featherweight, won a six round decision from Earl Baird, California. ZANE GREY FILM AT CALIFORNIA Two great "rushes" across the continent mark the history of the West's development. The first was the rush of the forty-niners from the East to the gold-fields of California and the free lands of Oregon. The second was the rush of '76 by the farmers of the Mississippi valley to the buffalo fields of Montana and Wyoming. It is this latter rush that forms the theme or Zane Grey's "The Thundering Hird," which William K. Howard directed for Paramount. It will be the chief film attraction at the California Theater where it opens next Sunday for a three days' run. The picture vividly recreates the old west of fifty years ago. Throughout the plains of the mid-west herds of buffalo roamed at will. Then, in the spring of 1876 news spread that the hides were bringing as much as three dollars each in the east. Immediately there was a rush. Persons from all over the country and from all walks of life started for the buffalo fields. Perhaps the greatest influx was from Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. Lloyd Hamilton in his late comedy, "Half a Hero" and International News complete the picture program. "The Four Musical Lunds," the special added stage attraction for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, comprise a mixed quartette of distinguished instrumentalists who render a splendid repertoire of selections on all kinds of brass instruments and xylophones. A Class Ad will bring you results.
