Your Cross Word Puzzle
HOW TO SOLVE THE CROSS WORD PUZZLE
The way to solve the Cross Word Puzzle is to fill in the white squares of the diagram with the words which agree with the accom-panying definitions. The definitions are numbered to correspond with the numbers on the diagram.
Any word defined in the text under "Horizontal" will begin at its number, shown on the diagram, and will extend all the way across to the first black space to the right of that number. That is, the word must begin in the square that contains its identifying number and extend as far as the white squares continue uninterruptedly.
Any word defined under "Vertical" will also begin in the white space that contains its number, but will extend downward as far as the white spaces remain uninterruptedly.

PLACENTIA
Leaving Placentia at about 9:30 Wednesday a.m., the Round Table ladies, about 60 strong, proceeded gaily to Riverside to visit the wonderful Sherman Indian Institute.
The committee in charge had ordered a perfect day and for once the weather man did as he was bid.
Arriving about 11 o'clock furious interest and enthusiasm, the guests were first shown through the new Protestant chapel which was dedicated two weeks ago. This fine large building has been made possible by generous contributions from all religious denominations and creeds, a large share being given by the Indian themselves. The outside is the new imitation adobe, while the inside is very artistically decorated, using Indian design throughout. Immediately in front of the steps leading to the entrance of the chapel is a huge swastika in the cement walk.
The large basement of the chapel has been fitted up with tables and benches, while a fire kitchen at one end makes dinners and other gatherings possible. The girls told them they were planning to give a gift of C dinner Thursday evening.
Again on the outside step Mrs John Tuffree stopped Mrs Ladies to take a picture of the group.
The matron then led the way to one of the girls' dormitories Ramona home, where everything was in apple pie order, not on thing out of place.
By this time it was dinner time and the visitors were given the delightful opportunity to touch the children's dining room and watch them march in ta

the luncheon absolutely alone, and it was a perfect one, and perfectly served.
When everyone had done full justice to it, Mrs. Knight, president of the Round Table, introduced Mrs. Atwood, chairman of Indian Welfare of this district. Mrs. Atwood spoke very feelingly of the needs of the Indian and the lack of an appropriation large enough to cover it. She also told of the ceaseless and untiring efforts of the superintendent, Mr. F. M. Couser, who has been at the head of the Shelter school for 16 years, and in the Indian service for 30 eyars. She said that Mr. Couser had stretched every dollar to make it do the work of three and in working for this great cause has sacrificed his health to a great extent.

Mrs. Knight then introduced Congressman Taylor from Col.
orado, who told of the way the mone ywas obtained from Congress for different things; how the heavy part fell on the budgeting committee who earnestly tried to do the apportioning as they honestly believed to the best advantage. He and two others are to spend nearly the entire vacation visiting and studying the Indian schools and reservations to learn what and where money was needed and to use their influence to make the Indian appropriation for next year adequate. The present fiscal year, July 1925 to July 1926 has been budgeted but hopes are held out for the future. He said that the Sherman Institute was very highly thought of in Washington and was sure to have everything possible turned its way. He also spoke of the wonderful work Mr. Couser had done and was still doing.

PROFESSOR NOODLES
THE UPRISING OF WOMEN
Dear Professor:
At Coney Island, I aver,
I saw a sight-exceeding strange
The women shed their stockings, sir!
What think you of this awful change?
O.O.Dear
For years the women, I aver,
were crushed beneath the laws of men!
But now they've
shed their stockings, sir—I'm glad they're on their feet again!
