DAILY GREETING TO OUR READERS
TO HATE A MAN—
Is to put yourself beneath him.
Is always easier than trying to understand him.
Is usually to confess that you do not know him.
Is the beginning of suicide of the soul.
Requires less mentality than to adjust differences.
Is to begin the wrecking of your own happiness.
Is to be as guilty as he is.
STAGE IS DYING SAYS NOTED AUTHOR
The legitimate stage in America is dying. Commercialism is killing it. The motion picture and the radio are supplanting it. These are the expressed convictions of Cosmo Hamilton, noted author and playwright. He gives the legitimate theatre only about five more years to live. He paints a lugubrious picture of the decay of the legitimate drama.
That the stage is suffering from the inroads of the motion picture and the radio is verily true. Families can go to the motion picture theatre any time of day or evening. They have the continuous performance. The legitimate stage has its fixed hours for performance. These hours do not accommodate many. Hence, those who formerly patronized the legitimate go either to a motion picture or a continuous performance vaudeville house.
Many individuals or families stay at home, afternoon or evening, and listen to the many attractive programs by radio. It is true that conditions are not promising for the legitimate stage. To draw well, legitimate drama must be exceptionally good, having exceptional stars. And the risk to producers is so great that they hesitate to put on a costly production with high-salaried actors and actresses.
But it perhaps is too much to augur the death of the legitimate stage. It has its devotees and always will have.

But it perhaps is too much in augur the death of the legitimate stage. It has its devotees and always will have.
The price of safety is carefulness in driving. They who do not pay this price suffer the consequences.
The public treasury should be protected against raids as carefully as is a private bank account.
They used to call them barber shops. But why not call them bobber shop?
If the stage is dying, unclean plays have had much to do with its decay.
Millions now living will never die.
For 1506 years Christians have prayed for the coming of God's Kingdom because Jesus taught them so to pray. He said that it would come in quietly, like a thief in the night. The proof now shows conclusively that His Kingdom is here. What is his kingdom?
How will it operate on earth?
What effect will it have upon the nations and people?
Will it bring the blessings and comfort for which the people have long hoped?
These questions will be answered to the satisfaction of all who believe that the Bible is God's Word. It is the most comforting message suffering humanity has ever heard. Hear it, and be glad.

HEALTH AND DIET ADVICE
By Dr. Frank McCoy
Author of "THE FAST WAY TO HEALTH"
EXERCISE AND DIGESTION
In these days when mental work yields so much greater financial returns than mere physical work, it is important to urge especially upon brain workers, the necessity for more vigorous exercise. A sufficient amount of exercise is needed to encourage the growth of the muscular cells, in order to keep the blood circulation up to normal and to insure more perfect assimilation of the food taken; this assimilation being at its best when the muscles are sufficiently exercised and call on the system for plenty of nourishment. The quantity of food taken at meals does not need to be so carefully limited if a proper amount of vigorous exercise is taken. The brain worker may be poisoned into sickness by perfectly good food which has not been properly digested and assimilated on account of its being used in excess over and above the demands of the system for material for repair and growth, while on the other hand, the man working at hard muscular labor might be able to use exactly the same foods and quantities as the brain worker without fear of injury.
The most desirable kind of exercise from every standpoint is some kind of outdoor sport, such as baseball, golf or hiking and those should be indulged in with regularity. If you find some particular one that you enjoy. However, these play exercises should also be supplemented by certain calisthenic exercises, which can be taken at home once or twice daily. Although exercise of the entire body is needed, very beneficial results will come from good physical culture exercises, especially those which develop the muscles of the torso or trunk.

COMMENTS of the PRESS
What Editors Are Saying
STATE CONTROL OF AUTO STAGES—Presno Republican
A new "twilight" zone of federal and state authority has been discovered by the Supreme Court of the United States. And naturally that tribunal has decided in favor of the federal as against the state authority.
Probably this is good law. But it is not good policy.
And Congress should act at once to prevent the use of the Supreme Court decision to force on the states and on transportation conditions a poor policy.
The decision in question declares that states cannot control stage traffic where that traffic is engaged in interstate commerce. In a Washington case, it has declared that a stage line running from Portland north cannot under Washington law be given a monopoly under state permit of "public welfare and convenience."
California, like Washington, issues such permits, in fast monopolies. It is felt in this state that the interest of the public is served better by giving public utilities certain areas in which they shall confer service, under public regulation, rather than to have competitive service. It has been found that in the long run there is no such thing as competitive service. The competitor in a public utility field, drives out or buys out all competition. Better to issue the monopoly at once, under regulation.
The Supreme Court decision is not a decision against monopoly. It is a decision against state control.
It indicates a possibility that Congress will undertake to regulate all interstate auto traffic.
It will be much better if Congress does nothing of the sort. Congress has not yet learned to handle rail traffic in an effective way. It should leave to the states the handling, in their own way, of stage traffic. This is a business which can be dealt with short runs. At the most, it is unlikely to cross more than one state line. Stage companies need not find it difficult to deal with two states. While the burden on traffic to have stage business handled from Washington would be an overwhelming cost.

Mrs. W. M. Keaton, 70, of Pasadena-dry, Riverside, received a bad gash down her forehead to her nose and the Ford touring car driven by her husband was damaged in a crash at 8 a.m. today with a Pickwlek bus at Lemon and Center-sts. One of the fenders of the car caught the bus, which whirled the car about, bending the fender and twisting the wheels out of line.
Keaton exonerated the driver of the bus, declaring he had underestimated the speed of the big machine.
Mrs. Keaton was given first aid attention at the Gibson drug store. She suffered from shock as well as from the gash caused when thrown from her seat.

Everyone Says It—Sales Prove It
Hudson is not called "the World's Greatest Buy" for today alone. That is acknowledgment of ten years' constant refinement of a great car around the famous patented Super-Six principle.
The reasons for that position affect all motor car buying: They cannot be ignored.
A supreme and exclusive motor principle, adding power, smoothness, performance, without added weight, cylinders or cost.
The largest production of 6-cylinder closed cars in the world—and the value advantages of that position.
Actual proof of greatest value—which is SALES.
And now the greatest price advantage with the finest quality Hudson ever offered.
It is only as you find the real comparisons for Hudson qualities among the costliest cars that the enormous difference in price is so astonishing.
All now know that higher price can buy no smoother performance than Hudson's. It cannot buy more brilliant results in pick-up,
power or speed. It cannot buy greater reliability or endurance.
And with all this capacity and flexibility Hudson keeps the economy, simplicity and easy maintenance of the "Six."
