MRS. DENNISTOUN
PALE AND DRAWN
LONDON, March 6.—A four-day battle of wits between Mrs. Dorothy Dennistoun, whose charges of love sacrifices for her husband opened a Pandora's box of scandal, and Sir Edward Marshall Hall famous British barrister, ended in a temporary armistice today.
Mrs. Dennistoun quite evidently was tired out when she concluded her long siege in the witness box. She appeared less worn, however, than the barrister. He was forced to ask the court for an adjournment until next Tuesday to permit him to rest.
Mrs. Dennistoun identified Major Woevodsky, who asked to stand up in the court room, as a married man she admitted had staved at the same hotel as she did in Paris, but added.
"It was a business trip."
Mrs. Dennistoun admitted she went to Spain with Maj. Woevodsky to witness a bull fight as the guests of the mafador, Canero.
"Canero was great friend of mine," she said.
The witness said that "Mr. R," adviser to Young Lord Carnarvon, was willing to marry her. She testified he was with a good business firm and had an income of $5500 yearly.
LONDON, March 6.—Mrs. Dorothy Dennistoun, whose story of her love sacrifices for her husband set British tongues wagging, was pale and drawn when she took the witness stand today and underwent her fourth successive day of cross-examination.
Sir Edward Marshall Hall, of counsel for Col. Jan Dennistoun in the action his divorceced wife brot to recover money she claimed she advanced him, questioned Mrs. Dennistoun severely regarding her letters to her maid.

her love sacrifices for her husband set British tongues wagging, was pale and drawn when she took the witness stand today and underwent her fourth successive day of cross-examination.
Sir Edward Marshall Hall of counsel for Col. Ian Dennistoun in the action his divorced wife brot to recover money she claimed she advanced him, questioned Mrs. Dennistoun severely regarding her letters to her maid.
He was particularly searching regarding one which directed the maid to look in the medicine chest, get the small brass box labeled "dispatch" and send this post-haste to Paris. Sir Edward said this letter was written at the time when Mrs. Dennistoun admitted intimacy with the Spanish, Bolin, and also when she was supposed to be still under the protection of the late Sir John Cowans, wartime quartermaster general of the British army.
He also questioned Mrs. Dennistoun closely about letters to her maid in which she seemed considerably worried about the way her maid was making some nightgowns for her. She said she was apparently worried about her nightgowns though she had testified that at that time she was troubled over her condition.
"I suppose a woman nearly always thinks of her clothes, whether she is worried or not," Mrs. Dennistoun replied.
She admitted that Lady Carnarvon, who married Colonel Dennistoun after his wife divorced him, gave her many clothes and housed her for some time. She denied she ever told Lady Carnarvon her discarded husband was a "scoundrel—the man who sold me to General Cowans."

The purpose of the present test is to demonstrate the capabilities over transcontinental distances of a new system of electrically transmitting pictures devised by the Bell Telephone engineers. Four cities are connected together for the purposes of this test, the arrangements being such that pictures will be sent from Washington, D.C. to New York, Chicago and San Francisco simultaneously. The length of the telephone line between Washington and San Francisco via New York is about 3600 miles, the greatest distance over which pictures have ever been transmitted electrically and the transmission time is only seven minutes.
This system of transmitting pictures electrically was first published in May, 1924. The press demonstration is in anticipation of the opening of a transcontinental picture transmission service likely to be announced by the A.A. and T.Co.
The system is a development of the engineers of the A.A.F. and C.B., and the Bell Telephone Laboratories, Inc. It is the outcome of work covering several years of provides a simple, rapid and accurate picture transmitting system which will operate over a telephone line. The apparatus rises minutes.

assemblyman Arthur Ohnimus with reference to the latter's visit to Smith's home in Oakland, Feb. 11 or 12, the report says:
"It is impossible for the committee to reconcile the differences in the two statements given by Mr. Ohnimus and Mr. Smith nor can they be reconciled.
"There is sufficient in the testimony concerning the actions of the two elective officers of the public, the chief clerk and the sergeant at arms, to call attention to their unwarranted action concerning the defeat of this measure.
"These activities are calculated to bring, and have brought upon the house the odium in the public mind that its members are disregardful of their own conduct and of the conduct of their officers.
"Such conduct is not to be indulged in a light or frivolous manner and the excuses that such matters were referred to by the officers of the house is entirely reprehensible.
"Every reference by an officer of the public characterizing any bill as a cinch bill or introduced for cinch purposes is reflecting upon the member of the house who introduced it and it also reflected upon the system of government which countenances it.
Consideration of the report was put over until Monday afternoon by a "gentleman's agreement."
It developed that the assembly is divided as to acceptance on account of the severe strictures on Ohnimus and Wilkinson, and also as to what action should be taken with reference to them and the report.
