After the one-day flight from Selfridge field to Miami had been called off to make repairs to the flagship, piloted by Major Lamphier, another ship arrived from Selfridge field for Lleut. Whitehead and the 12 ships of the Twelfth pursuit squadron got away from Wilbur Wright field promptly as 10 o'clock. Major Lamphier consulted the weather bureau and found climatic conditions were ideal for flying and revoked his previous order calling off the flight. The flight from Selfridge field to Dayton was made in an hour and 40 minutes. In landing, the ship piloted by Lieut. Whitehead was wrecked but he was supplied with another, and all were ready to take the air again on schedule time, but the motor is Lamphier's plane balked and refused to start. Much time was lost.
