YOUR CROSS WORD PUZZLE
HOW TO SOLVE THE CROSS WORD PUZZLE
The way to solve the Cross Word Puzzle is to fill in the white squares of the diagram with the words which agree with the accompanying definitions. The definitions are numbered to correspond with the numbers on the diagram.
Any word defined in the text under "HORIZONTAL" will begin at its number, shown on the diagram, and will extend all the way across to the first black space to the right of that number. That is, the word must begin in the square that contains its identifying number, and extend as far as the white squares continue uninterruptedly.
Any word defined under "VERTICAL" will also begin in the white space that contains its number, but will extend downward as far as the white spaces remain uninterruptedly.

10,000 MACCABEES NO INVADE CAPITAL
DETROIT, Mich., Feb. 4.
Friendly relations between the United States and Canada will be cemented by the Maccabees' international automobile caravan, bringing 10,000 members of the order of both nations to Washington next summer, according to A. W. Frye, supreme commander.
"More than 2500 automobiles from every state in the Union and every province in Canada will take part in the procession next July," said Mr. Frye. "A good percentage of the Maccabees 220,000 members are Canadians. By driving to our national capital and fraternizing with United States members they will carry home with them a new appreciation of American ideals."

1925 SETS RECORDS FOR NEW SCHOOLS
BEDFORD, Ind., Feb. 4.—The little old red schoolhouse is drifting off into obscurity. Like the hickory stick of the Three-Rail days, it is becoming but a ghost of the dim past.
"Modern progress," says the Indiana Limestone Quarrymen's Ass'n, "is sweeping before it the filmy shells that once housed armies of tiny Americans. These clapstrap structures, cold, unsuitary and at best poor fire-risks, are rapidly being replaced by sturdy modern buildings.
"A survey just completed shows that during the year 1924 more than $225,000,000 was expended in replacing antiquated school buildings.
"Plans that have been adopted and contracts already awarded indicate that the present year will show a still greater volume of school building construction. Beauty in architecture is being combined with utilization. Community interest and civic pride are in a measure responsible for the stride toward better school buildings. More and more schools are becoming community centers as well as temples of wisdom. Space for assemblies and recreation purposes are now almost a first consideration.
"Waste of space was a characteristic of many old school buildings. By judicious architecture, it has been estimated, $50,000,000 could be saved, the chief economies being in the reduction of waste space on stairs and corridors and the increase in usable area.
"The future will see finer school buildings with better facilities and at a lower cost to the taxpayer."
HEATED TRIAL WITHOUT A SOUND
CHICAGO, Feb. 4.—A heated bringing 10,000 members of the order of both nations to Washington next summer, according to A.W. Frye, supreme commander.
"More than 2500 automobiles from every state in the Union add every province in Canada will make part in the procession next July," said Mr. Frye.
"A good percentage of the Macabees 220,000 members are Canadians. By driving to our national capital and fraternizing with United States members they will carry home with them a new appreciation of American ideals.
"The Maccabees caravan will be the largest tourist movement by automobiles ever organized in North America. Mobilized in column two abreast, the automobile could enter Washington in a procession 10 miles long. Auto mobiles making the trip will use approximately 400,000 gallons of gasoline. The caravan will consist more than $5,000,000 worth of food while in Washington?"
A Little Talk on Thrift
By S.W. STRAUS (President American Society for Thrift)
Many businesses fall because those in charge are not able to keep down the overhead.
The same is true of individuals Too much for rent; for clothes for recreation; for little luxury here and there bring failure and ruin.
Upbuilding one's self personality is a matter of organization. The principles which apply to successful business management hold good in individual matters.
Keep expenses down to such point that progress is assured. No matter what one may do otherwise, no matter how brilliant or may be or how hard one may bor, failure will be the inevitable result of misadministration.
One's personal finances.
Dickens, through the character of Wilkens Mioawher, emphasizes the truth of this lesson: "Annie income, 20 pounds; annual expenditure, 19 pounds six—result, hapless Annual income, 20 pounds annual expenditure, 20 pounds six—result misery."
The difference between pounds six and 20 pounds six—the difference between success and failure; between progress and disaster; between a fine, useful life and a life more wretched due to worry and a sense of impending disaster.
Watch your overhead. Keep down your fixed charges. Keep free of the yoke of bills that can be paid.
To do so is to grasp one of the essentials of personal upbuilding.
And they swallow pills; Oh, Lo above.
To conquer the lilies they know no

HEATED TRIAL
WITHOUT A SOUND
CHICAGO, Feb. 4.—A heated argument between eight persons was in full swing, but not a sound was heard.
The group was composed of deaf mutes. Plaintiff, defendant, and six other witnesses all speaking at once. Gestures became so violent that the judge "hearing" the case here, in the Small Claims court, thought the mutes were wearing and threatened to put them out.
The plaintiff was accusing the defendant of taking a ring from her home.
A woman acted as interpreter.

Dear Professor:
Our boy some day will sail away upon the deep blue sea. When water flows he coos and crows and ramps in ecstacy! He likes to stay and watch all day the spigot's constant drip, which proves to me he's bound to be the captain of a ship!
