FRIDAY, JANUARY 30 1925 NOTED SPANIARD IN "BANDOLERO" One of the most interesting features of "The Bandolero," which will be the feature at the California Theatre for Saturday only, is said to be the bullfight scenes. These were made by Tom Terriss, the director, in Granada, Spain, near the famous Alhambra, while the Grand Fair of that nook of the world was in progress. Things were looking mighty black so far as special bullfight scenes were concerned when Canero, the most renowned annuver of bulls in Spain, came along with his ten thousand dollar white horse. Canero said he was willing to do his act, for which he usually receives one thousand pesetas, for nothing. That looked to Mr. Terriss like a very fair basis from which to begin bargaining; and as a result Canero and his ten thousand dollar nag soon were at work on a bill. As Canero's specialty is not allowing any one except himself and his horse to get into danger, bull on horseback at the limit possible moment, and then, for good measure, hurdling over the bull's back—Mr. Terrissa got not only the different sort of bullfight that he was seeking, but also one that while packed with thrills, was innocent of those details that make most bullfights not only consurable, but also not highly diverting to most Americans. For the rest, "The Bandelero" was photographed for the most part in Cuba and Spain, and is a Metro-Goldwyn picture. It was adapted by Mr. Terrissa, who also directed it, from the novel of the same name by Paul Gwynne. The cast includes Pedro de Cordoba in the title role, Renes Adoree, Gus lay von Seyfertitz, Manuel Granado, Gordon Begg, Dorothy Ruth Arthur Donaldson, Marie Valray and Jose Rueda. Saturday night is gift night and there are over $100 in valuable and useful gifts that will be given away at the evening performance. Another of the Go-Getter comedies and an Aesop Fable complete the program. KLAMATH PALLS—W. S. Pate, John O'Shea and Pete Sullian charged with first degree murder and robbery in connection with the murder of Oscar Erickson, went on trial here today. SAN DIEGO—After 43 years of wedded life, Mrs. Margarot E. Thomas decided her husband was cruel to her, and was today granted an interlocutory decree. Mark This Ballot NOW! INC. 188 WEST CENTER STREET ANAHEM, CALIFORNIA CITY'S FINANCES IN BEST SHAPE (Continued from Page One) general fund to determine whether the city is in good financial condition. From the general fund money is used to pay labor, to buy equipment without voting bonds, to repair equipment, to repair streets, to pay for electric energy purchased from the Edison company, to pay for work on the sewer farm orange grove to pay for extension and repair on electric light lines, and, in general, to pay for all other services incident to the operation of the city's business. The various incomes for the general fund acerene from fines from the recorder's court, from collections from light and water users, from money for oranges sold from sewer farm, from permits sold, and from taxes paid on fiscal property for fiscal year. In the lop-sided statement in the Bulletin is included the money's paid out of the redemption funds, payments out of the sewer fund for the outfall sewer, payments for every conceivable thing. The attempt to confuse the voters by misrepresentation of the city's financial condition is in accord with the entire campaign of the little clique which has been so desperately attempting to get back into the city hall from which it was elected last spring, declared political observers today. Not one good reason has yet been advanced for the injustice of trying to withdraw Anaheim's first dry council in the most vicious recall attempt ever seen in California, it was charged today. The small group of disgruntled politicians who forced the recall on the city have stopped at nothing, not even to import ex-convicts in a conspiracy to "frame" law enforcement candidates. Every charge made against the dry councilmen has been successfully refuted and these officials stand up the burden of oratory. Last night be told some funny stories at the Concordia club as reasons why Anaheim's first dry council should be recalled and elected in their place the candidates supported by the same voters who last spring lost out with Bill Stark, former political boss and ex-saloonkeeper, and Al Pape, whose Packard auto was seized when he was arrested by federal officers on serious charges of bootlegging. SEATTLE—Nick Holvan, 43, broke his neck when he fell down the stairs at his home today. He was dead when picked up. SEATTLE—Found guilty of murder in the second degree, Gus Marth, who killed John Yonna, 72 on Oct. 3 last, was awaiting sentence. Not one good reason has yet been advanced for the injustice of trying to withdraw Anaheim's first dry council in the most vicious recall attempt ever seen in California. It was charged today. The small group of disgruntled politicians who forced the recall on the city have stopped at nothing, not even to importing ex-convicts in a conspiracy to "frame" law enforcement candidates. Every charge made against the dry councilmen has been successfully refuted and these officials stand out in bolder relief than ever before as the result of the failure of the U. S. A. club to make a case before the public. No wonder public sentiment is more than ever crystallizing for the dry councilmen, political observers stated today. Anaheim's financial condition is in better shape today than ever before because economy has been the watchword of the administration from the day it went into office. No group of councillmen ever gave more time to Anaheim's civic affairs. Never before was it possible to step into the mayor's office any day and find him at his desk. Incidentally, it was pointed out today: What one of the opponents of the law enforcement candidates, even if he were willing, could devote as much time to the city's affairs as has Mayor Metcalf? What one of them could stand on a platform on any public occasion and so ably represent the city? Interest in the campaign today was pointing to the second big law enforcement rally Monday evening. Another great demonstration of public sentiment was assured at the gathering on the eve of the election. Heretofore, J. A. Geissinger has carried the burden of the speaking campaign for the recall agitators. However, his church membership openly rebelled at further use of the pulpit for political purposes and he has been devoting his energies to writing for the U. S. A. club organ, his articles being declared the most disgraceful efforts at mud-slinging ever seen in an Orange-co political campaign. Harry D.
