VETERANS RESENT ATTACK ON WEBB (Continued from Page One) club and cohorts to fight that tent day. The dinner club under his thumb passed a resolution condemning the test day. A local organization passed a resolution condemning this action. Wm. P. Webb, Jr., was given his choice of resigning from the bolshevik's organization or apologizing for the actions of the patriotic organization to which he also belonged. Webb as a true American citizen refused to bow to a Kalseristic order and left the company of the bolshevik. The action of the other dinner club in censuring him, was one of ignorance of the true situation more than anything else and in a way can be overlooked. Then an attack is made on the nerve of Mr. Webb, a man who has been and still is very ill following an operation for appendicitis. His physical condition is very grave, aggravated by dysentery and the strain on his system acquired in the Argonne offensive. Mr. Webb was tagged for the hospital while in the front line. Instead of going to the rear, he returned to his outfit up front. He became so ill in a couple of days that he again went back to the dressing station and was again tagged for the rear. Again he went to the front where men were needed, 8,000 miles from where those who attack him were safely sleeping. Several hours before they arose to eat their nice farm breakfast in a nice warm room this man, who had not been able to keep even a warm cup of coffee on his stomach for seven days and was so weak he had to be helped back onto his feet by his comrades, "stood to" and, in the rain and mud, was assisted out of the trench and oovr the top by his squad mates. He was so weak he could not carry his pack, for after you got "over" there were no longer any comrades to help you. For then it was "every man for himself." He carried only his bayonet in his hand but Bill was Smudging citrus groves, a practice said to be particularly obnoxious to residents and business firms situated in Southern California where it is carried on extensively because the only fumes and smoke has done damage to goods in stores and to household furnishings, is to be the subject of a meeting at Ontario, February, according to an invitation to attend received today by the board of supervisors of Orange county. Supervisors, municipal officials and representatives of civic clubs of the counties of Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino have been asked to attend, it was understood. C. C. Teague, president of the California Fruit Growers exchange and Floyd Young of the United States department of agriculture will be speakers, it was learned. The foremost proposition to come before the meeting, it was said, will be the matter of heating orange and lemon groves without the use of amut or smudge. The call was issued by the Ontario chamber of commerce. The meeting is to be held at the Chaffee Union high school. PROCEED TO ERECT NEW EDIFICE (Continued from Page One) a second campaign after the first had secured only $39,000. It has no wealthy members. Chairman of the finance committee named some time ago by the congregation, named a soliciting committee, asking that they meet at the church tonight at 7:45 to perfect plans for a canvass for funds which will begin Sunday afternoon and continue until completed. The committee is as follows: H. M. Wickett, F. N. Gibba, Wm. Wallop, H. G. Archibald, Mrs. H. G. Archibald, O. H. Renwilson ATTENDANCE AT REVIVAL GROW (Continued from Page One) and with the people of God." He said that he had been asked if it were possible for a man love his enemies, as the Bible tells it certainly is, he replied, in way that the Bible means it doesn't mean that you want to them, nor that you esteem them, but it means that you have nothing against them in your heart, and that you wish well. He said that there is no man in this town but that we wishes well. A few points from Bulgin's mon: "Two of the most worthless things in the world is a ghost corpse. One is a spirit with a body and the other is a body without a spirit, but put together, and you've got what the church needs is my spiritual life. An old dead chap can't give birth to children." "Booth once said the reason shows draw more people than church is because preachers prove the truth as tho it were fiction and actors act fiction as tho were the truth. People want there is life in the gospel of Christ if you'll present it. You don't need more culture; you need me of the Holy Ghost. God does want your brains nor your cult but you." "There is a great dearth presidential timber and go preschools now. Commercial has sapped the vitality from public men of the nation." "God doesn't save men in sins, but from them. Don't with God for He won't fool you." "When a man looks lightly on the blood abomination he looks lightly on sin. The trouble with people is not mental agnostice but rottenness in the heart, rid of the hindrance, and God meets you." "I'm told that local men spent $40 in telegrams to find Bulgin's criminal record." Breakfast in a nice warm room this man, who had not been able to keep even a warm cup of coffee on his stomach for seven days and was so weak he had to be helped back onto his feet by his comrades, "stood to" and, in the rain and mud, was assisted out of the trench and oovr the top by his squad mates. He was so weak he could not carry his pack, for after you got "over" there were no longer any comrades to help you. For then it was "every man for himself." He carried only his bayonet in his hand but Bill was with the gang to stay and he stayed and now is paying for it on a bed of pain, while the dirty cowards who never even went without a full meal during this or any other campaign attack him. I care nothing for his politics. I care nothing for his religion, but as a comrade in arms who has also been through hell and can judge a man when I meet him, I do love and respect Wm. P. Webb, Jr., for the unselfish, patriotic, true buddy and man that I know him to be and I am ashamed to think that any paper or organization, eliminating to be for the United States of America, can cast such aspersions on a man, who has so proven himself, is allowed to continue in this country. Webb himself does not know that I know these things about him. He is too much of a man to brag. But the attack on him tonight has most certainly changed my way of voting in the election Feb. 3. —A SOLDIER. Hear Dr. McGarrah talk at Presbyterian Church on Church Building. They Carolton and see my folks!" She said, "The best in the world.' We had saved up a little money, and we started. Going up the hills one day when we were nearing our destination we met up with about 4000 sheep in the road, and every sheep had a red spot on his hip. My wife stared at it, and I did not say anything, but her curiously was so great that finally she asked. How does it happen that every one of those sheep has a red spot on its hip? Is it a birth-mark?" Birth-mark on sheep's wool when they are sheared twice a year? You had better go back to England.' Well,' she says, 'every one of those sheep has the same mark. Please tell me what it means.' And I told her: 'The fellow who bought these sheep had to have them inspected by the inspector before they crossed the county line to see that they had no disease, and no sheep can cross from one county to another unless he has that mark on him." "Then it is the shepherd's mark that has paid for the sheep and that they belong to him." And she said, "When you get back to Chicago you had better get you a bucket of red paint for there are some of our sheep that you don't know and they are running around loose." Oh, God, that the church members were such that others could see that they see and then we would not have to mark them so that people cohld know they were church members. O. black, dark sin that is what is the matter. Confess your sins, get square with God and there will never be any trouble. The moment you get sin out, you are right. "The girl is no longer on trial; instead they are trying her dead mother—the woman she killed before she went to dance with shields and drink rotten bootleg whiskey. They are delving into the character and habits of the mother instead of bringing to trial this girl who shot down her parent without a qualm of conscience. We intend to prosecute her as we would any other murderer." Dr. Theresa Metkile, deputy district attorney named to have charge of the prosecution, said: "Delay in this case was the one thing we objected to strongest. I see no reason and cannot understand a continuance of the case.Murder is not a juvenile matter." Both the district attorney and his deputy said they were confident Judge Murasky of the juvenile court would send the case to the superior court where the madcap girl will be tried for murder. Moonoln said that Dorothy was sick mentally and physically. It was claimed she had lost 15 pounds since her arrest a little more than a week ago. "The girl's nature is warped by environment, she is physically over-developed and she is the hit-and-miss victim of this umbrified age," declared Mooslin. "There is no reason why this girl should be dealt with any differently than any other fortunate 16-year-old who comes under the eyes of the authorities." Matheson said he was investigating a report that poisoned candy and fruits had been mailed and sent to Dorothy by messenger. He said he did not know that such attempts had been made but that an extremely close supervision of the girl's mail, which is pouring in from all sections of the country would be maintained. Wes. MAY LIVE WITH SHOTS IN SKULL LOS ANGELES, Jan. 23—The skull was pierced by two bullets from a small calibre revolver in what police believe was an attempt to commit suicide. John G. Thomas, 22, son of E. R. Thomas retired wealthy automobile manufacturer of Buffalo, N.Y., has a fighting chance for recovery, according to word today from the Hollywood hospital, where he was taken following the shooting yesterday. Thomas continues to steadfastly maintain he did not shoot himself that his wife did not do it, but refuses to tell who did it. The case has taken on an air of mystery because the police have been unable to locate the gun with which the wounds were inflicted. In spite of Thomas' repeated assertions, detectives investigating the case today prepared a statement classifying the affair as an attempted suicide. In announcing their findings, the officers included that they had learned that Thomas, in 1923, had been confined in Patton for alleged extensive use of intoxicants, but was later released on probation to his wife, Thomas' father, it was learned today, is wintering in Miami, Fla.
