Not Even Receive Applications Yet No applications for 1925 license plates will be even received, let alone forwarded, by the Auto Club of So. Calif. until Feb. 1, District Manager J. A. B. Dillworth of the Anaheim office declares. Even if applications were forwarded to Los Angeles or Sacramento it would avail the applicant nothing, says Dillworth. 36 PER CENT JUMP NOW FORECAST SAN BERDON RIVERSIDE BESTED 238 New Cars Register In County During Month Orange-co, which used to its friendly foe, San Bernadino regularly month after month auto sales, but latterly has bitten the dust, came back comber and nosed out its rick 11 cars, selling 238 new vehicles to 227 for the southern county. Ford, Dodge, Hudson-Essex Premature Reports of consolidations being planned in the motor car industry were repeated in different quarters here this week, but confirmations were lacking. One story said that the Ford Motor Co., had purchased the Dodge and Hudson-Essex interests. Charles Mann, Dodge and Graham truck distributor in Anabeim and vicinity, said an understanding might have been reached, but no financial arrangements had been made. H. R. Grove, northern Orange-co distributor of the Hudson and Essex, said he didn't believe any consolidation or even understanding was planned. A representative of Sid McGraw said he had talked to men from the Ford factories recently, and had heard nothing about the matter. The Ford and Dodge interests are linked in the new reports partly because the latter used to have a heavy interest in the Ford Motor Co., although Henry Ford purchased that some years ago. Reports that the Dodge has purchased the Hudson and Essex or vice versa have been circulated for some time. Those inclined to think something is in the wind point to consolidations of tire interests the past year, which are said to have reduced the number of independent companies by a large percentage. Consolidation of course means lower overhead. LONG DELAY WITH WHITE SLIP ONLY License plates may be obtained by sending the white certificates only to Sacramento, but a delay of 30-60 days may be expected, says Manager Ralph of the Orange-co Auto club. It's a lot simpler, says Ralph, to pay a small fee and get a duplicate certificate. More than 1,000,000 tourists are expected to enter the borders of California by automobile during 1925, according to a summary of the situation just compiled. Basing this prediction on the normal increase in travel over the transcontinental routes, there is every indication that a new high mark for visiting motorists will be set in the present year. What is regarded as the best forecast of heavy travel is the inquiries from the east reaching the A. C. S. C. touring bureau. These showed an increase of more than 38 per cent over 1923. All of these were answered in detail and some idea of the prospective tourists provided with routings to California may be had in the announcement that a large percentage of the more than 9,000,000 maps distributed during the year were sent in response to requests from the east. It is pointed out also that general conditions throughout the country are conducive to heavy travel. The improvement in the prices of farm products, the betterment of transcontinental trails, and the extensive advertising of the state by community organizations and railroads it is expected will further stimulate travel. It is believed that the year 1925 will bring as many persons into So. Calif. by automobile as are brought on trains. Nolan de- FORD CAR PROVED CHEAPER VEHICLE The Ford Motor Co. has issued a most interesting story put in the form of an interview between Smith and Jones, in which the various reasons why a Ford is cheaper are enumerated. For example, the money put into a car might have been earning six to eight per cent safely. That amounts on $600, saved let us say by not paying $1,075 for your car, to $36 to $48 for 12 months. Similarly, figuring depreciations at 35 per cent the first year, 15 per cent the second and 10 per cent each year following, the depreciation on the higher priced vehicle is $876.25 the first year, which is $210 more than on the Ford. Dividing the total of $250 saved already by 000 miles for the first year, operation cost the owner of the costlier car 5 1-4 cents per mile more than the Ford owner. Easier parking is another advantage. A radiator will cost the one man $50, while the Ford owner will pay only $17.50, etc. His tires will be cheaper, because smaller, and he will probably use less gas and oil. DUCO DISTRIBUTOR APPOINTED HERE Anaheim now has an exclusive representative of the famous DuPont product, duco finish, which with its lacquer content has revolutionized the painting of autos throughout the country. This finish comes not only dull, but in two lusters of varying brightness. The firm at 327 South Los Angeles-st, has been painting cars for many years in Anaheim and understands the business thoroly. Some of the most satisfactory paint jobs in the city stand to its credit. Duco or something close to it is coming to be the finish universally adopted by the big manufacturers of cars, because of its resistance to acid and everything else that commonly destroys finishes. Headlight Offenders Pay $25 for Each Offence Says Victim Fines of $25 per offence are being handed out by the Los Angeles police courts for glaring or wrong headlights, according to an Anaheimer, one of whose friends was a victim recently. The ordinary fine in Santa Ana is $5. Not only must headlights be of the makes approved by Will H. Marsh, head of the State Division of Motor Vehicles, but they must be in condition and correctly adjusted. A. Bevillard of the Anaheim Ignition Depot reminds the public that some 15 months' notice was given, except for lenses barred since the law took effect, and that owners had plenty of time to have their lenses changed if necessary. Another point is that not only headlights, but various other lighting devices have been banned or approved by Marsh. According to official figures issued by the U.S. Department of Commerce, 1924 auto production in the country reached 3,650,000 cars and trucks, compared with 4,086,997 in 1923. A quarter of 3,000,000 already has been set for 1923. Cars exported numbered 220,000, a new high record and 30 per cent above the 1923 total. A further boost in exports is predicted this year by manufacturers, the latter counting on this source to take up the slack from time to time. SHOW OLDS NEW MODELS TONIGHT Louis Frahm and son, A. H. Frahm, who have taken over the distribution of the Olds here at 420 South Los Angeles-st, will keep their display room open until JAIL TERMS ARE GIVEN ALSO Vigilance Committee Organized to Aid Police; Bootleggers Offenders Following the example of Los Angeles, San Diego county has started a campaign against reckless drivers who are being given unheard of fines. Anybody for instance caught driving 35 miles or more an hour in 20-mile zones will be fined $175 and be sent to jail. Auto Supply has won first place inside held annually in Pasadena, one contained more than twenty rocks added additional realism. CHILD FATALITIES CUT 21 PER CENT A reduction of 21 per cent in the expectancy of child fatalities due to motor vehicles has been made through systematic teaching of safety in the public schools of Los Angeles. The safety curriculum in the Los Angeles public schools was inaugurated nearly three years ago. The little folks are given practical instruction and in addition they compete in designing safety posters and verses for use in the bulletins and other literature that are necessary in the work. Safety committees are formed in the schools and diplomas are issued to the youngsters completing the course and doing their part, not only in observing safety rules themselves, but in watching the younger children. The reduction in the expected fatalities of 21 per cent during 1924 is regarded as highly encouraging and it is believed will stimulate schools in all parts of So. Calif. to inaugurate safety teachings. Further Headlight Changes Unlikely George H. Ennis of the Automotive Electric Co. advises drivers who haven't yet changed their lenses in accordance with the law effective Jan. 1, to get a good lens now that the change has come, not merely keep within the statute. Considering the fact that the new lenses prescribed by Will H. Marsh of the state division of Motor Vehicles, aren't likely to be banned for years, Ennis urges motorists to buy a lens that will protect them as well as the other fellow. The El Camino reflector gives no glare whatever when properly adjusted, and is one of the most satisfactory at a reasonable price on the market, says Ennis. Ennis is doing a big business adjusting lenses, also. With his 13 years' experience in Colorado and two or three years here, Ennis knows the automotive electric line from A. H. Frahm, who have taken over the distribution of the Olds here at 420 South Los Angeles-st, will keep their display room open until 9:30 tonight to enable prospects to see the new models. The Frahm's have lived in Anaheim for the past 13 years and have many friends. The Olds car never was a better value than now. The General Motors Co., which is manufacturing this car, has improved it and cut its price until it is one of the outstanding machines on the market. Used Car Stock Unusually Good Emmett M. Nelly of the Buick Used Car Department here today announced that his firm has a "very clean stock of good late model automobiles." These used cars, he said, were "traded in" on new model Buicks. Most of these traded cars have been used very little, and a close inspection reveals that none had been abused by the former owner. "At the present time we have a number of unusual bargains in cars that look and run like new," Nelly declared. GERMANY BEHIND U.S. IN AUTOS USED BERLIN, Jan. 17—There are 80 times as many automobiles per capita in the United States as there are in Germany, according to A. E. Dunning, secretary of the American Chamber of Commerce in Berlin. Dunning brought out these figures to prove the United States auto makers have a big future in Europe. California has the best motor bus service of any state in the union, according to speakers at the motor truck convention recently held in the National Automobile Chamber of Commerce offices in New York. It was stated that in California there is perhaps not a vigilance Committee Organized to Aid Police; Bootleggers Offenders. Following the example of Los Angeles, San Diego county has started a campaign against reckless drivers who are being given unheard of fines. Anybody for instance caught driving 35 miles or more an hour in 20-mile zones will be fined $125 and have their car put in the garage for 60 days. Motorists are warned by the touring department of the National Auto Club to touch the throttle of their car with exceeding lightness while passing through San Diego county. According to information received by the National Auto Club a vigilance committee has been organized with a view of curbing the speed wave which has been sweeping this section of the country. Fines and jail sentences are being imposed in a rigid manner. Bootleggers from Mexico in high powered cars, are said to be among the principal offenders. Following is the new schedule of penalties for speed violators which took effect in San Diego county on January 7, of this year: Highways, 35 Mile Zone 40, 41, 42 miles per hour, $10 fine. 43, 44 miles per hour, $15 fine. 45, 46, 47 miles per hour, $25 fine. 48, 49 miles per hour, $35 fine. 50 or over miles per hour, to appear. 20 Mile Zone $10 and one day for every mile up to 30, at 30 miles car to be put in garage for 30 days, at 35 miles or more car to be put in garage for 60 days and a fine of $125. 15 Mile Zone In intersections in city up to 25 miles $10; and operators card one day per mile.
