FRIDAY, DECEMBER 26, 1924 TRUST DEPT. NOW IS IN OPERATION As announced some weeks ago, The First National Bank of Anaheim has recently installed a trust department in accordance with the banking laws of the state and under the supervision of the national banking department, thus which trust department, said bank is competent to act in any trust capacity in which any trust companies may operate. In opening this department, they have entered a field ripe with opportunity, and will be able to render a service really needed in Anaheim and vicinity, as this in the only bank in Orange-co (outside of Santa Ana), which operates a trust department, and herefore citizens of this community have been required to go to Santa Ana or to Los Angeles for this class of service. A bank may not open its doors for private or court trust business until it has deposited with the state treasurer not less than $100,000.00 in securities approved by the state and national banking departments, which securities are to be held as guarantee to customers for the faithful performance of all trust duties, and further the trust department is under the supervision and subject to examination by both the state and national banking examiners. They have comprised all of the banking provisions in this respect, and their trust department is now in active operation, and through the provisions of their permit, they are now authorized to act as executor or administrator of wills, trustee in estates under deeds of trust, subdivision arrangements, or any other trust or fiduciary capacity in which trust companies may operate within California. Mr. Arthur G. Porter, who has BREA, Dec. 26.—The kindergarten room of the Laurel school was the scene of a wonderful P.T.A. Christmas party for the children, teachers and parents. A large Christmas tree was in the center of the room. The party was for the children of the first, second and third grades from 1:30 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. They presented a program of songs under the leadership of their teachers with Mrs. Youts at the piano. A Christmas story, "Little Sambo," was told in a very interesting manner by Miss Helen Henigan of the Fullerton Union High school. Then Santa Claus, with Mrs. Claus, came loaded down with pretty balloons of many colors on his back pushing a wheelbarrow (all cotton) loaded down with a big sack filled with popcorn balls. Much excitement was created on their arrival with 200 balloons, one for each child present. The fourth, fifth and sixth grades party followed, afterwards a program of carols under the leadership of Mrs. Zoutzi. Miss Helen Henigan gave a beautiful Christmas story of "The Chimes." She told stories in an interesting way, holding the attention of the grown-ups as well as children. Santa followed again, this time bringing boxes of gifts for each room which Mrs. Santa Claus distributed. Each boy and girl received a popcorn ball. They all had a good time and left with many thanks to the Laurel Parent Teachers' Ass'n. Mrs. R. S. Hughes entertained Wednesday with a dinner in honor of little Buddy Trunlow's second birthday. Her guests were Mrs. W. E. Bruhm and Mrs. W. B. Trunlow and little son Buddy of Los Angeles. LEGAL NOTICE NOTICE INVITING SEALED PROPOSALS OR BIDS. Mr. Arthur G. Porter, who has and subject to examination by both the state and national banking examiners. They have comprised all of the banking provisions in this respect, and their trust department is now in active operation and through the provisions of their permit, they are now authorized to act as executor or administrator of wills, trustee in estates under deeds of trust, subdivision arrangements, or any other trust or fiduciary capacity in which trust companies may operate within California. Mr. Arthur G. Porter, who has been named as trust officer, and will have direct supervision of the trust department, owned and operated a title company of his own for many years before becoming associated with The First National Bank of Anahiem some two years ago, and he has had a legal training and experience particularly qualifying him for his present position. The very nature of the business of a trust department is primarily the handling of funds, property and estates, belonging to, or in which deceased persons, minors, incompetent or inexperienced persons are vitally concerned, and for that reason the banking departments of the state and nation have wholly protested the interests of the persons whose properties are handled through these departments in a very careful manner; however, the services offered by such a department enter almost every imaginable field of business activity. It is needless to say that the man who considers carefully the future of his family does not appoint his executor and trustees thoughtlessly. If he is tempted to leave the matter to his wife and "let it go at that," he has only to consider what burdens he is placing upon her, to change his plans. If he is considering a friend, he also thinks twice, before he asks him to undertake those burdens. In considering the intricacies of accounting and the continual requirements of trained business judgment which they involve he will think longer still. And in such a responsibility the element of continuous existence becomes all-important. He cannot but consider as a probability in choosing an individual to act in the future, the possible illness or death of that individual and the uncertainty as to who may replace him. That these helpless millions should know nothing to show them that there are such things in the world as justice and gentleness and love—it turns one's heart cold to think of it. The orphanage work of Near East Relief comes in to snatch as many as it can from this terrible kind of start in life to try to show them that there is another kind of world from this which they know, and that it is joy to show them this world and train them to its thoughts and feelings. Every child that can be rescued from the miserable plight into which the war has forced him, will be just so much gain for the forces of order and peace and good will in the world. It is a work which gets down to bed rock, lessening the amount of threat to the future which must lie in rearing these great masses of children to know nothing but bitterness and misery, starting counteracting forces of goodness and sympathy.
