Calif., is an entirely new train, the Golden State Limited, running between Los Angeles and Chicago, to be operated by the Southern Pacific beginning Sunday, Dec. 28, as the most modern transcontinental train in the country, according to L. D. Valia, district passenger and freight agent, with office at Santa Ana. "The increasing heavy traffic between the middle west and the coast merits a new train and the very best in modern railway equipment," said Mr. Valla. "Only by addition of an entirely new train could we hope to adequately serve the passenger traffic between the midland metropolis and Los Angeles. Under the new arrangement, the Southern Pacific will, after Dec. 28, operate two first class trains daily between Los Angeles and Chicago. The new train to be placed in service between Chicago and the coast will make the run in 68 hours, leaving Los Angeles daily at 11:45 a.m. and arriving Chicago 9:45 a.m. The present Golden State Limited leaving daily at 11:15 a.m. for Chicago will be renamed Golden State Express, and will depart at 10 a.m. beginning Dec. 28. The equipment for the Golden State Limited will be entirely new and of steel construction thrust. Every modern convenience for passengers will be provided. There will be a maid, barber and valet to serve travelers. Two cars will be fitted with bath rooms. The train will not carry tourist cars or coaches. Robert Lee Bulldard, who commanded the ram-on 1st Division in France and the 2d American Army in France, and who is now in command of the 2d Corps Area, United States Army, at Governors Island, has started a big controversy in arm circles by declaring he "found the German solider equal to three Allied soldiers." Is statement was made in the course of a discussion on the virtuosity of organization, training and discipline. En Bullard based his comparison between the Allied and German soldiers in the World War on their comparative capabilities, asserting that, because of his discipline, the German soldier disposed of three of his enemies before he himself became a casualty. Disagree in Principle Major Gen. John L. Hines Chief of Staff of the Army; Brig Gen. Dennis E. Nolan, Deputy Chief of Staff, and Major Gen. Taser H. Bliss, member of the Allied Supreme War Council during the war, all disagree with "the general principle of the statement" laid down or medied by En Bullard. En Bullard, a West Point had ample opportunity to serve the effectiveness of the German soldier while this country was in the war. Troop commanded by him met Germans in some of the hotter segments of the war, The equipment for the Golden State Limited will be entirely new and of steel construction thrust. Every modern convenience for passengers will be provided. There will be a maid, barber and valet to serve travelers. Two cars will be fitted with bath rooms. The train will not carry tourist cars or coaches. The most modern dining car providing seating capacity for 36 passengers will be used on the Golden State Limited. These cars have ceiling fans, large kitchen ranges and additional refrigerator space. The largest type clubcar containing baths for men and barber shop will be attended by valet and barber. This will permit passengers to arrive at their destination in as neat and comfortable appearance as they maintain at home. The observation car for the new train will be richly furnished and will be served by a maid who is also a manicurist and hairdresser. In addition to drawing rooms, compartments and observation section this car will contain a retiring room and bath for women passengers. The new Pullman sleepers include improved ventilator systems permitting passengers to regulate the amount of fresh air to the berth of each section which are also provided with adjustable racks for clothing and handbags instead of the hammock." "She says she's thirty-five," said Mrs. Brown, "but oh, my dear." MORAL:—It's not what you say, but what your face tells. And no woman ever looked or felt younger by soaking her hands, steaming her face over a wash tub, and tiring her body washing clothes. Why not let the laundry do it?—specially when "Rough Dry" service washes everything; irons flat work; fluffs woolens, hosiery and bath towels smooth, ready to use; and returns other work dry to be dampened and ironed at your convenience. "It is true that the was better discipline in the German Army and that the Allied casualties were greater than German, but I do not think you can conclude that the German soldier was worth three killed soldiers." Gen. Nolan expressed similar opinions. "It Gen. Bullard meant that one disciplined German would two or three disciplined Brits, or French or American soldiers, then I do not agree with him.
