RETAIN NAMES FOR HISTORY'S SAKE PARIS, Dec. 12.—Certain old Parisians are up in arms at the suggestion of changing the name of the venerable "Qual Malaqual" to that of "Anatole France" in honor of the great writer who was born and lived there. "Anatole France, himself," says Clement Vautol, "would have disapproved of such a project. The Qual Malaqual, which takes its name from the old dQueen Margot, is rich in historical souvenirs. Much of the charm of Paris rests in these picturesque streets and corners which recall historical events. If you have great men to glorify, make new streets—we need many new houses in the town—and baptize them as you will, but don't imitate the Pharaohs who changed the names of their monuments with every reign."
