WALNUT GROWERS STUDY PRUNING
Now that the walnut harvest is practically over, walnut growers are directing their attention to pruning and fall irrigation. Many owners of old closely planted groves are also considering the wisdom of thinning out for the purpose of increasing production. According to announcement from County Agricultural Agent H. E. Wahiberg, a series of field meetings has been scheduled for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week. These meetings will feature the latest information on proper pruning practice in walnut groves and recommendations for the handling of fall irrigation. Experiments conducted by the College of Agriculture for a number of seasons have shown a direct relationship between production and proper irrigation practice, as well as pruning practice.
Considerable data has been compiled by the county agricultural agent covering the increase in production following the thinning out of the closely planted groves. Charts will be presented at the above meeting showing the experiences of a number of growers who have had the courage to remove from 25 per cent to 50 per cent of the trees. The data is very convincing and will no doubt attract dozens of growers in the county.
All growers interested in these phases of orchard management and the public are invited to attend the following schedule of meetings:
Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2 p.m., West Orange—Place of H. D. Wash corner La Veta-ave and Noya flower-st.
Thursday, Nov. 20, 10 a.m., Anaheim-Garden Grove—Place of M. G. Oswald, Katella school, two

MAKE 30 ARRESTS
IN MILK STRIKE
OAKLAND, Nov. 18—Arrest of 20 men, charged with attempting to prevent milk trucks from moving into Oakland and other East Bay cities, early today featured the third day of Oakland's "milk strike."
Following reports that milk "hi jackers" were cruising the highways and firing upon milk trucks endeavoring to enter the city, Sheriff Grant Barnett with several armed deputies patrolled the highway leading into the ban Joaquin valley with the result that arrests were made near Travis.
Several acts of violence were reported to the sheriff's office. Oakland's milk supply was cut to approximately 15 per cent. Berkeley 40 and Alameda was practically shut from all supplies. The farmers ask 29 cents a gallon for milk.
