WEEKLY REVIEW OF OIL INDUSTRY
By Ellwood J. Munger
Resources this week presents a better outlook than it ever has since the Union Oil company's Athens 1 discovered the field. The better outlook is occasioned by the findings of E. J. Miley at Athens 1, the oil showings of the General Petroleum's Amstoy well and the Union Oil company's Trust No. 1 putting in a showing. Coming as a pleasant surprise early in the week the Miley well at Athens 1 found 40 feet of solid oil sand from 4906 to 4947, and will set a string of 6 5-8ths and cement off at about 4715. The General Petroleum's Amstoy 1 at 5985 the deepest well in the field to pick up an oil sand, is showing production possibilities and looks very good. Up to a few days ago all hope had been abandoned for the Amstoy as far as an oil well was concerned. The Union Oil company's Trust No. 1, another well upon which the shadow of doubts were falling, picked up a nice showing at 5970 and saved the day.
The Union Oil company brightened the hopes of Rosecrans producers a few days ago with a 2500 barrel well at Rosecrans No. 4. The well like others, however, is not standing up to initial production and after being on only a few days declined a full thousand barrels.
The most important development this week at Dominguez was the acquiring of the 57 acre Del Amo property by the Henderson Petroleum Corporation. The Del Amo property is located in the city of Dominguez.
WOMAN BECOMES ASSISTANT CHIEF OF THE U.S.MINT
In eleven years Miss Mary O'Reilly has risen from clerk to assistant director of the U.S. mint. Hundreds of millions of dollars in gold and silver are now being struck off under her direction.
Pany did the trick on the Bradford property with a well drilled to 4712 feet. The Chjcsan producer came in at 700 barrels and is making a profit.
"I'm one RADIO FAN that never shivers"
Comfortable as you make 'em!
Pearl Oil's as easy "keep up" as turning wick — the most convenient heat ever made. Every drop is consumed in clean, heat-producing oil.
The Union Oil company brightened the hopes of Rosecrans producers a few days ago with a 2500 barrel well at Rosserans No. 4. The well like others, however, is not standing up to initial production and after being on only a few days declined a full thousand barrels.
The most important development this week at Dominguez was the acquiring of the 576 acre Del Amo property by the Henderson Petroleum Corporation. The Del Amo property adjoins the Shell company's recently acquired Manuel lease and is held in high regard by oil men who know the Dominguez field.
The Shell company it appears is about to show Dominguez field operators something good in the way of a deep oil sand. Shell Heliman No. 1 at 5600 is showing a nice and well saturated oil sand and gives great promise of opening a third zone for the field.
At the close of the week the Torrance field had nothing to offer in the way of a deep sand that looked at all promising. The Chanazor-Canfield Midway is leading the quest with a 6025 foot hole at Francis No. 1, located in the Redondo or west end of the field. The Shell company's Kettler 2 comes next from the standpoint of the depth with over 5100 feet of hole and nothing to show. The Laura J. Gill Oil company's well, drilling in the center of the Lohita section of the field, has about 4400 feet of hole and only slight and small showings to encourage.
The Petroleum Securities company wells, drilling on the extreme east end of the Torrance field, are not in the gusher class, and unless they continue as long fire producers the property will not pay out. The Pet Petroleum Securities company has completed and put on production some 8 wells thus far and their output runs from 90 to a 175 barrels.
It appears that it took the courage, conviction and the stick-to-titiveness of an outsider to find a deep sand for the old Richfield district. The Chicasan Oil company did the trick on the Bradford property with a well drilled to 4712 feet. The Chicasan producer came in at 700 barrels and is making a 21 gravity product. This little company started in the oil business at Huntington Beach four years ago, drilled and put on production a number of good wells at Huntington and Horrance. Operators felt the company was taking a long shot when they came into Richfield five months ago and started out to find a deep sand for the old field. The work of the Chicasan carries considerable importance and will no doubt be the signal for the starting of much new development.
Rideout Heights, Whittier, continues to present a discouraging outlook. Almost a year ago the local oil world was electrified with the success of Jim O'Donnell in the completion of a 1000 barrel well at 4259 feet. Since that time more than a dozen wells have been started, many of these now are nearing the 5000 mark and having nothing to warrant any fear of an overproduction. The Standard Oil company's Patten No. 1 passed the 5100 mark a few days ago and continues drilling in hard grey sand with only the meagerest oil showings. The Petroleum Midway has four wells under way, two over the 4400 mark, and two over the 4600 mark and none of the four are near production.
Authentic information on the Superior Oil company's test located at the foot of Turnbull Canyon, Puente side, has it that the well has resumed drilling and will be carried ahead worl a deep test. Recently a production test was made at 3866 but the oil was not in commercial quantity. A feature of the well is the wonderful oil sand showings the well is making
