OBTAINS REVENGE
AFTER 20 YEARS
OKMULGEE, Okla., Nov. 11.—Revenge, withheld for 20 years by a halfbreed Indian, has been satisfied today in the mutilation of Robert A. Fletcher, who lies in a local hospital weak from the loss of blood with both his hands severed at the wrists by a sharp hatchet. A chopping block, Fletcher declared, had been used by the halfbreed in getting his revenge after the manner of his forefathers.
Fletcher declared while traveling from Slick, Okla., to Okmulgee with a telephone line man their car was halted by an Indian, who leveled a shotgun at the men in the car. Fletcher was jerked from the machine and the lineman, after hurling a hatchet at the Indian sped away.
The Indian and a companion marched the white man into the woods. The red man struck Fletcher in the face and hissed:
"You no remember what happened 20 years ago, but Indian remember and now he take his revenge."
Fletcher remembers hearing a chopping sound, then both hands went numb. He can recount nothing that happened after that until he awoke in the hospital.
Motorists found him wandering aimlessly near the highway, the two gory stumps spouting blood at the wrists.
Twenty years ago, in Chickasaw county, Fletcher said he won a law suit and a fight from an Indian halfbreed. During the fight he struck the red man with a pair of brass knuckles he had in his pocket.

RELIGION OF THE FUTURE WILL SHIFT TO MEET CHANGING CONDITIONS OF HUMAN LIFE," SAYS DR. ELIOT
That the religion of the future will be based on love of truth and spirit of co-operation among men and that worship of the delicacy of the past will give way to evidence for beauty and goodness as prophesied by President Emilius Charles W. Eliot of Harvard in a recent address given at the University.
Taking as his subject, "Religion and the Modern Youth," Dr. Eliot said in part:
"I believe that the modern youth rejects almost all the tenets, dogmas and creeds of the test; that he comes to the question of religion with a mind free from the terrible obstacles which the common Christian dogmas and needs have imposed upon past generations. The modern youth does not believe in the least the necessity story of creation, or of God, Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. He does not believe in the total deprivation of mankind taught in the ordinary evangelical creeds and manuals. He has rejected those things, his mind is free from them, and therefore the problem what to believe is all the more interesting and stirring.
Ohl Conflict to End
"We are indeed coming to a state of the world when the old conflict between science and religion will disappear, partly because scientific methods approach those of theology and those of philosophy approach those of science, but also because we realize all sections or areas of human thinking that progress depends on the free play of the human imagination."
The new religion will magnify and laud God's love and compassion, and will not venture to state that the justice of God may, or may not, require of himself, or of his creatures. This will be one of the great differences between the future religion and the rest religions. Institutional Christianity as a rule condemned the mass of mankind to eternal torment, partly because the leaders the churches thought they unrestricted completely the justice of God, and partly because the exclusive possession of deliverance gave the churches some restraining influence over even the bold sinners, and much over the mild. The new religion will make to congress by the greatest majority in the Nov. 4 selections in Maryland, was brought to trial on charges of violating the Volstead act before Federal Judge Morris Soper and a jury today.
The champion wet leader in congress has announced he will carry the case to the U.S. supreme court if the local court ruling is against him.
Hill is charged with violation of the dry law through manufacture of wine and elder in his home in West Franklin-st. Locally known as "Hill's farm." A elder party several months ago, which was attended by Prohibition Commissioner Roy A. Haines and his assistant, James E. Jones, and several of Hill's friends, was the climax of a long series of actions to test the legality of a phase of the law that permits farmers to manufacture elder. Hill termed this discrimination against the city man and welcomed the resulting court action.
If other nations try to run our domestic affairs, it won't be dissected; but it will be neighborly.
The Father, the Son of God, the Mother of God, the Holy Ghost, and the host of tutelary saints) have greatly moved the human soul, and have inspired men to thoughts and deeds of beauty, love and duty. Will the new religion do as much? It is reasonable to expect that it will. The sentiments of awe and reverence, and the love of beauty and goodness, will remain, and will increase in strength and influence. All the natural human affections will remain in full force."
