ASK LOUDON IF CONTEMPT SOUGHT
"I'm going to ask Loudon whether he meant to impugn the honor and integrity of this court in the paragraph published in Saturday's Bulletin. If he says he did, I'll hold him for contempt of court. If he says he didn't, I'll ask him for a retraction."
This is the way Judge Charley Kuebel looks at the question which has been raised in connection with the item in question, part of a story regarding a Mrs. Antonia Ogas, of the sugar company section, convicted of throwing glass upon the highway and fined $50. The Bulletin in its report said, quoting A. A. Siback, city trustee:
"Sure she's guilty," remarked the city trustee during the trial of the case in Judge Kuebel's court this morning, where he appeared as a spectator. While the remark would, by most judges, be considered contempt of court, it was allowed to pass unnoticed.
Judge Kuebel's communication, made thru City Marshall Bert Moody, who called the Bulletin on the phone, was due to the fact that the Judge regarded the paper as having reflected on the fairness of the court.
Chief Moody phoned the Bulletin at 9 a.m., and was told that Loudon would be informed of the request.
Up to 10:30 the reporter supposedly responsible for the article hadn't appeared at the court as he usually does long before that hour.
Joe Ogas, husband of the woman, was convicted of possession and transportation of liquor and heavily fined. Unable to pay, he was sent to jail.

TOO MUCH ALIKE SAYS MR. BARBARA
By PRINCESS PAT
(I. N. S. Special Correspondent)
CHICAGO, Nov. 10.—"Barbara and I," explained "Mr. Barbara Lamarre," who rumor says, is about to make legal application for the right to resume his bachelor name of Jack Dougherty, "are too much alike. That's the trouble with us."
But, to paraphrase Merton, if the too beautiful Barbara is no longer the sweetheart of her fifth husband she is still his best pal.
Mr. Dougherty said so himself, as he stepped from the Twentieth Century Limited here today and hat and stil in one lemon-gloved hand, ran the other thru his glorious suburn hair in which the mareel is perfectly natural.
"Why Barbara came down to the train in New York yesterday and kissed me bood-bye and wished me luck."
"We think it's perfectly splendid being separated, if you know what I mean."
"And if there's any divorce suit brought, Barbara'll bring it, not I."
INTENDED TO SUE
NEW YORK, Nov. 10.—Jack Dougherty, husband of Barbara LaMarr, motion picture actress, was expected to institute suit for divorce immediately upon his arrival in Hollywood, according to statements made here before he left. Miss LaMarr did not accompany her husband to the train, declaring herself to be ill. Dougherty, however, telephoned her before boarding his train.

Preident Bunyard appointed a committee of three, consisting of G. Barnett, G. G. Preddy and W. Mrs. Burnell gave two very interesting readings. Her imperial nations of the negro and Irish were very pleasing.
Fred Ahlborn made a very interesting speech, the main object of which was to interest the people to the necessity of water conservation. He pointed out that the water table had been gradually receding since the time Noah. He pointed out that in the old world many wonderful civilizations have been blotted out by the receding water table. Most of the great cities being excavated today were once in the heartfelt fertile, well-watered agriculture districts but have long since been covered over with the sands time.
He pointed out that each year our water supply is becoming less and less and the water table has fallen about 50 feet in the last 25 years. He points out that our mountain streams are our solution of the problem. He brought the facts out clearly and his talk was very much enjoyed.

URGES DISPLAY OF FLAGS TOMORROW
Jack Hebson, adjutant of Anaheim post of the American Legion, asks every Anahelmer who owns a flag to bring it out tomorrow. Armistice Day. Whether it is store or residence, the day should be remembered, said Hebson in this way.
There are more than 150 of the big flags with sockets which the legion furnished. The flag need not be placed in the sockets necessarily, but can be put in front of houses or on porches.
Hebson proposes to distribute 150 or more additional flags here as soon as they arrive.
Regarding tomorrow's county celebration at Huntington Beach, the adjutant declared it was not only interesting to everybody, but instructive to children.

TEN-YEAR ARCTIC MYSTERY CLEARED
SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 10—10-year-old Artie mystery was believed to have cleared up with the arrival here today of the gas schooner Herman, back from an annual cruise of adventure in the waters of the far north.
Making the fourth successful landing on the bleak shore of Herald Island, Captain Louis I Lane and members of the Hermann found the bodies of four men apparently frozen to death. In 1911 the Karluck, carrying a Canadian expedition, foundered near that point. The members of its crew reached Wrangel Island and elk have never been heard from. The four bodies are believed to be half of the missing exploration party.

DEATH OF LODGE SHOCKS CAPITOL
(Continued from Page One)
dent's room in the capital on the fourth of March 1921, can ever forget their-last meeting. Wilson, broken, white-faced, partially paralyzed, sat in the great chair of authority for the last time. Outside, the plaza was jammed with cheering thousands, already claiming his successor. It was Harding's inaugural day.
There was a twisted smile on the face of the outgoing president. The cheers from the thousands outside came faintly into the high ceiling room where he sat.
That twisted smile, half sardonic, half contemptuous, disappeared as if by magic when the door opened and in walked Lodge. As legislative leader, it was his traditional duty to inform the outgoing president of the demise of a senate that had fought Wilson as probably no other senate had ever fought a president and to ask if there was any further communication from the executive.
Their glances met for just the fraction of a second. Then both looked away. Lodge's look was at the window high above where the wartime president sat half askew in his chair. Wilson was looking at his pale hands.
For a moment there was absolute silence. Then like the crack of a whip came the voice of Wilson. "I have no further communication to make. I thank you for your courtesy. Good morning."
Lodge turned on his heel and left. A few minutes later, kindly handed the crippled form of the ex-president into his carriage at the door and he drove away down Capitol Hill to the house in S street which he rarely left until he died.
Even in the death of the ex-president last February the enmity between the friends of Wilson and the wispy little scholar from Massachusetts did not end.
Still in his role of senate leader, it devolved upon Lodge to deliver
SIMPLE FUNERAL PLANS FOR LODGE
BOSTON, Nov. 10—Plans for a simple funeral for Sen. Henry Cabot Lodge, were under consideration today. The veteran senate leader, whose 31 years of consecutive service was a record both in the time elapsed and in the power wielded, lost his stubborn fight against death shortly before midnight last night.
Simple funeral service, the exact hour of which has not been determined, will be held in Christ Church in Cambridge Wednesday.
The body is at the home of Dr. Wm. Sturgis Bigelow, a lifelong friend of the dead senator. Interment will be in the Lodge family plot at Mt. Auburn cemetery.
A brief bulletin issued shortly before midnight, announced the death of Sen. Lodge. It follows:
"Sen. Lodge died at 11:45 o'clock tonight. (Signed) Dr. Frederick H Winslow and Dr. John H.Cunningham."
Only the unyielding will with which he held to life as he did to his political convictions—a quality evinced anent the League of Nations—kept the veteran senator alive after the stroke which he suffered Nov. 5.
An operation for gall stones July 27 and a second operation for the same complaint three months later preceded the relapse. Until his collapse it was believed that his recovery from the second operation would be as speedy and remarkable in a man of his age as recovery from the first.
With the senator when death came were his daughter-in-law, Mrs. John Ellerton Lodge, his granddaughter, Helen A. Lodge, John E. Lodge, a son, and two grandsons, John D. and Henry Cabot Lodge, 2nd.

GOLDEN STATE PHARMACAL CO., Long Beach, Cal.
For a long time he has been our senior senator. He was the floor leader of the senate. This is not the occasion to undertake to review the positions he has filled and the work he has done. It is enough now to recall that he has been one of the great men of our time. He had a wide scholarship and wonderful faculty of expression. His influence has been world wide. A large collection of his writings and speeches are left to us, which will not only be of historical interest, but of permanent literary value. Full of years bearing the honors that have never ceased to be bestowed in increasing number, he has been gathered to his fathers."
