Abel of Johns Hopkins has developed an "artificial kidney," a device which can draw all the blood of an animal or human being from a vein, pass it through a sort of filter to remove polysis, or other impurities, then return it through an artery without removing the vital corpuscles. Only a relatively small portion of the blood is out of the patient at a time, as the flow from vein to filter and back to artery is continuous. Brooklyn now has the world's first steam-electric generator, capable of producing 67,000 horsepower. Recently the sending of pictures by telegraph was put to a new use, when Chicago police identified a criminal by means of a fingerprint sent by wire from New York in four minutes. LEGAL NOTICE NOTICE TO CREDITORS 17633 Estate of Fannie Burton Oxley, deceased. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, by the undersigned administratrix with the Will annexed, of the estate of Fannie Burton Oxley, deceased, to the creditors of and all persons having claims against the said deceased to file them with the necessary vouchers in the office of the Clerk of the Superior Court, of the County of Orange, State of California, or to exhibit the same with the necessary vouchers to the said Admits. "Jewelry" Follows Russian Fashion PARIS, Nov. 8.—Dame Fashion is being a bit kind to milady this season, offering her decorative accessories that are not always precious in price. Woolen necklaces and earrings are being shown in several of the popular Russian shops of the French capital, and promise to be quite the rage for winter wear. The necklaces are just a series of wool pompons of graduated sizes, strung on a woolen strand and worn about the neck to give a bit of color and fluff to a plain gown. There are earrings to match, but often the wool necklace is worn alone. They come in all colors and combinations, but red is perhaps the most striking color, giving a final touch of perfection to a simple ensemble of dark fabric. They are also very appropriate to wear with the handsome blouses of cross-stitch embroidery which the Russian influence has pushed to the front lately. Crystal, as a neck ornament, is also proving in favor. The latest tone is a pale violet, so pale that it is scarcely discernible; the beads made of the paleest amethysts. Then there are charming new crystal plaques, with designs in relief or painted in colors, which are worn about the neck on a thin black cord. To go with them are crystal ball earrings, which make an effective decoration. The very latest edict says to wear but a single jewel on dress occasions, a huge one, to be sure: Charles M. Kittle, who started 30 years ago as a water boy with a section gang, and worked his self up to senior vice president at the Illinois Central R. R., he been chosen as president of Steuben Roebuck and Co., succeeded Julina Rosenwald.
