Donahoy. "I expect to withdraw most of the troopa today," Gen. Benson W. Hough, commander of the Ohio National Guard, in command of the state troops, said. "Local authorities should be amply able to take care of any sporadic outburst that may come." Five hundred guardsmen, who still patrol the streets today, and the militia were assisting local officials in gathering evidence to present to the courts against those charged with responsibility for the outburst of racial hatred which resulted in 13 persons being hurt Saturday, one of whom may die. NILES, Ohio, Nov. 3. — Appearing at his office this morning for the first time, it is said, since Klan and anti-Klan rioting here Saturday resulted in the injury of 13 persons, Mayor Harvey C. Kistler today told newspapermen that he had performed his "entire duty in connection with the recent disturbances," and added that he invited an investigation by the governor. The mayor vigorously denied reports in circulation here that he would resign. Investigators representing Governor Donahoy are now assembling evidence to determine whether local officials used all means in their power to avert the fighting Saturday. Now we are told by those posing the present council t 13 persons, Mayor Harvey C. Kistler today told newspapers that he had performed his "entire duty in connection with the recent disturbances," and added that he invited an investigation by the governor. Charging again that both old parties were controlled by "the private monopoly system," the independent presidential candidate that only thru the progressives, could "the government be restored to the people." LaFollette's appeal to the American electorate urged not only the election of himself and his running mate, Sen. Burton K. Wheeler, but of "progressive candidates everywhere for the senate and the house without regard to party." "I am confident that the progressive ticket will be elected and that the progressive strength in the house and senate will be greatly increased," declared LaFollette. Many of Walter Johnson's old friends attended the ball game at Brea, where he played. They were very sorry to have him beat. Eddie Braner of this lease played for Walter Johnson, Johnson will be on this lease Saturday, visiting old friends. Mr. and Mrs. R. Jones accompanied by their son Bobby and daughter Sadie, and Alfred Roberts spent Friday evening in Long Beach. The Olinda grammar school played the Placenta grammar school in indoor ball Thursday night here at Olinda. Olinda was victorious. The score being 12 to 7. Trying to avoid colliding with Mrs. Lu Edmond and small daughter he ran into a telephone pole damaging his car quite badly and hurting himself a bit. Mr. and Mrs. Martin and Mrs Van Cleve of Yorha Linda were on the lease on business Friday. We are presented with astonishing figures in the police judge's port for the past six months or during the life of the present administration. We are told they have taken more money during that short period, than did the old management during a period of five years, as they have the cash to show for this report does not incl $575,00 taken in October 30 as 31 as the report was made in Oct. 29th. Now, we are told by those posing the present council that crime has increased in the last two months and that accounts for difference. Let us go back to review the records of the old council during the period of two one-half months while the press judge was then in office. It was the last half of May, of June and July, 1922. The books show a total of 750,00 for a period of approximately 75 days, Sundays include or an average of $23,333 per day.The corresponding time the year previous, 1921, shows a total $247,50 or $3,30 per day. Again, in 1920, same period total of $110,00 or $1,461-3-day. In the year 1923, same per cent and after the pace had been the amount dropped to $714,750.$9,53 per day. Now, we are asked to believe that during that short period time crime increased in violent many times, only to drop back again at the expiration of Judge Kuchel's reign of law enforcement. No one believes that the council was in any way responsible for such an increase in crime. The fact is they simply pick man who feared neither man devil, but who believed in law forcement with justice to all, special favor to none. The result he lost his position rather than shirk his duty. Today we are fortunate to hear this same man, backed by a colleel who is of the same opinion. What is the real difference dollars by figuring at the rate what the present administration has accomplished and what the council did? We find in years we would have a difference of $121,587.50.Is that amd worth our saving? I think will agree with me that it is. Now we are asked to sack that amount and let down bars, to allow our streets to converted into race tracks drunken auto parties return from Tiajuna or some other station. Are our lives and perty to be thus jeopardized?we to understand that to be policy of a certain paper oppose to law enforcement? We are told that out of the people and tourists shun use cause of the drastic law enforcement and in the same issue tell us 90% of all arrests are END RENT CONTROL WASHINGTON, Nov. 3. The end of government regulation of rents in the District of Columbia appeared in sight today when the district supreme court ruled that no emergency existed which made a rent control act necessary. Mr. and Mrs. Don Cullen of Hermosa Beach were on this lease Friday. On their return home they took with them Helen Meranda, who is staying there, to spend the weekend. Mr. Ed Ryan of this lease met with an accident Thursday night. Trying to avoid colliding with Mrs. Lu Edmond and small daughter he ran into a telephone pole damaging his car quite badly and hurting himself a bit. Mr. and Mrs. Martin and Mrs. Van Cleve of Yorha Linda were on the lease on business Friday. Mr. David Fairbairn and son Clyde of Olive were on this lease at the Hunker home Tuesday night. It is customary to say "I don't like to blow my own horn," just before blowing it.
