GOODYEAR COTTON DISPLAY, WINNER The cotton and fabric display of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. of California was awarded first prize for the best industrial exhibit at the Southern California Fair at Riverside. The exhibit was both unique and interesting, and of considerable educational value, in that it showed all of the various stops in the manufacture of "super-twist," the new Goodyear cord fabric, from the raw cotton in the bales thru to the finished product. Many people were amazed to learn from this exhibit of the important part that cotton and fabric play in manufacture of tires because most people have an idea that tires are made principally from rubber. Perhaps a better conception will be had of the important part that cotton plays in the manufacture of tires, when one considers that approximately twelve thousand bales of cotton will be used this year by the Goodyear Textile Mills at Los Angeles to make fabric for use in Goodyear California-made tires. Goodyear is by far the largest user of cotton in the state of California — statistics showing that approximately one-third of all the cotton that was used last year for manufacturing purposes in the state of California was used to make Goodyear tires. Goodyear is one of the few rubber concerns who enjoy the advantage of having their own textile mills right in conjunction with their rubber mills. The Goodyear Textile Mills adjoins the Goodyear rubber plant in Los Angeles, and it is devoted exclusively to the manufacture of high grade fabric for use in Goodyear tires. It was as a result of this advantage that Goodyear was enabled to develop "super-twist," the new cord fabric, which has meant so much in the development of Goodyear balloon tires as well as the improvement of the regular high pressure Goodyear cord tires. The principal advantage of "super-twist" is its great ability to MANY SALES PROSPECTS RESULTS (Continued From Page One) of weeks or months. "The show has been a wonderful advertising medium," said Lacy, "and the indirect results have been good." "Practically speaking the show has been very much a success." Lacy has replaced the seven-passenger touring with a five-passenger landau, the former having been delivered recently. The Frank P. Taggart Co. sold two Maxwell club coupes yesterday and earlier closed a deal for a Chrysler Crown Imperial sedan. "We have a whole pocketful of prospects," said Bill Hauser, Hauser, who is an experienced man here, also approved the plan of holding no morning sessions of the show, because then dealers were left an opportunity to demonstrate to new prospects. "People don't come here for any purpose, but look at cars," said Hauser. "It is prospective buyers who are attending the show." Clarence B. Goodson, who is showing the Atwater-Kent radio sets, sold several and has many prospects to demonstrate to Goodson has run out of a full line of sets and has to borrow a six-tube one. Ninety per cent of his purchasers buy after demonstrations at their homes, he declared. The factory is 60,000 sets behind on orders. Ray Schanhals had sold a Willys Anderson coupe up to yesterday. "Personally I am well pleased with the show," he averred, "particularly in respect to the amount of money we put into it. This show makes people realize times aren't as bad as they supposed. Hundreds have seen these cars, and the mouth to mouth advertising which results will be worth much." Dr. J. O. Schwentker, Moon distributor, sold a special touring to Harry Hemus of Olinda. His representative said the show had been "an unqualified success," so far as they were concerned. "We couldn't have exhibited cars as well anywhere else. People have certainly been out looking at cars. That's the kind of spectators we've STOCKS RELAPSED INTO DULLNESS NEW YORK, Oct. 25—stock market lapsed into dullness in the short session today. COTTON IRREGULAR NEW YORK, Oct. 25—The cotton market was irregular at Goodyear Textile Mills adjoins the Goodyear rubber plant in Los Angeles, and it is devoted exclusively to the manufacture of high grade fabric for use in Goodyear tires. It was as a result of this advantage that Goodyear was enabled to develop "super-twist," the new cord fabric, which has meant so much in the development of Goodyear balloon tires as well as the improvement of the regular high pressure Goodyear cord tires. The principal advantage of "super-twist" is its great ability to stretch and flex without breaking, it having approximately 50 per cent more elasticity than ordinary cord fabric. In this connection, it must be remembered that this advantage of greater flexibility in "super-twist" was obtained without sacrificing any of its breaking strength. "Super-twist" is strictly a Goodyear development, and is found only in Goodyear balloon tires as well as in the regular Goodyear cord tires. Pred James is local distributor of Goodyear tires. CUTS IN TIRE PRICES SPREADING (Continued From Page One) posed, however, and stocks of tires on hand were not depleted fast enough to keep the market within bounds. The manufacturers of standard tires also have had not only to produce some cheaper priced tires to compete with independents, but to cut regular rates. Manufacturing costs aren't nothing like what they once were, but that hasn't counted in this last reduction. Class Ad is best little salesman. No Additional Cost —insulated with Threaded Rubber No reinsulation bill to pay later, in order to get the rest of the battery's life. Threaded Rubber Insulation in a Willard Battery lasts for the life of the plates, or we replace it without charge. Buying a battery and paying to have it reinstalled later on is paying twice for the same battery," says Little Ampere. ANAHEIM IGNITION DEPOT A. BEVILLARD, Prop. Established 1912 218 So. Los Angeles St. Anaheim Dr J. O. Schwentker, Moon distributor, sold a special touring to Harry Hemus of Olinda. His representative said the show had been "an unqualified success," so far as they were concerned. "We couldn't have exhibited cars as well anywhere else. People have certainly been out looking at cars. That's the kind of spectators we've had." The Western Auto Supply exhibit was in charge of E. A. Powler of the Los Angeles office, and no attempt to sell goods was made, prespects being referred to the local store on South Los Angeles-st. Catalogs were distributed, however, showing the service possible at the 107 stores, which stretch from Vancouver to San Diego and from the coast to Kansas City, Mo. Bob" Boney who sold a Jordan playboy for the J. E. Walter Co., voiced similar satisfaction. Boney said visitors had shown a lot of interest in the Jordan and that he had listed many prospects to demonstrate to. Naturally, with a higher priced car like the Jordan, continuous demonstrations were necessary before a sale was closed. The smoothness, simplicity and economy of the Jordan, as well as its hydraulic brakes, had impressed spectators strongly. Roy S. Wilson of the Orange Co. Motors Co., Santa Ana, clinched the sale of a Pierce-Arrow sedan during the show and expected to make good on several new prospects obtained. The show was timely, not only because of the time of year, but because of the new models just appearing and being recorded for the year at 117% at head of a strong movement in specialty stocks, in which Colorado Fuel also participated. Bethhem Steel made a little more provement. American Woolen Company subjected to heavy selling and clined sharply to 51% for a fraction of the lowest price for one year.
