PAGE FOUR WILL NOT DESCEND TO PERSONALITIES MUSCATINE, Ia., Oct. 3.—"I am not going to descend to personalities I have fired into a flock of political pee-wits and some of the wounded birds are fluttering. Perhaps you can identify them. I don't know." This was the answer of Gen. Chas G. Dawes, Republican vice-presidential candidate, yesterday to a request for an answer to the demand of Senator Smith W. Brookhart that he resign as Coolidge's running mate. The answer was given to a huge crowd which gathered about his special train en route to Kansas City, where he made the first of a series of 10-minute rear platform addresses, which are to be a part of his invasion of Iowa, Missouri and Indiana today and tomorrow. Never once in his formal address did the general refer to Brookhart or his attack. He devoted his entire talk to a scathing denunciation of Senator LaPollette's platform advocating a limitation of the powers of the supreme court and it was not until he had finished that he made his comment taken to refer to the Iowa senator. "Is that all?" some person in the crowd yelled as the general prepared to withdraw. Dawes considered a moment and then gave his brief reply. REALTORS WEAR SPECIAL CAPS There won't be any doubt about Orangego realtors when they get on the job at the annual state convention in Pasadena Oct. 8-11. Every realtor will wear a cap that will leave nothing to the imagination. These head pieces, displayed here today, will be in orange and black, with a black border bearing the name of the town from which each board hails is printed in orange letters. Anaheim, Fullerton, Orange, Santa Ana, Huntington Bench and Garden Grove will be spelled out on each and every sconce. Besides this appeal to the eye, so to speak, an appeal will be made to the good taste of the delegates throughout the state with valencia oranges, which will be distributed free. To this 20th annual convention of the California Real Estate Ass'n the editors of every California newspaper or their representatives have been invited. The Pasadena Reality Board has been two years preparing to handle the greatest gathering of real estate men California has ever seen. From north and south motor caravans are coming. The convention will be held with general sessions in the morning and divisional meetings every afternoon. H. Robert Ennis, president, and Herbert U. Nelson, executive secretary of the National Association of Real Estate Boards, are coming from Chicago to attend the convention and to address the brokers of California. What authorities fear may be another ax murder, was brought to light here today when police announced that the head of a white man, acid eaten and apparently severed from the body with an ax, was discovered by a former deputy sheriff in a little clump of bushes near Birmingham. The skull found late yesterday was wrapped in a Birmingham newspaper bearing the date of Sept. 3. Efforts to locate the rest of the 'body so far have proved futile. Lemon Street Phone 520 FRIDAY, OCTOBER 3, 1924 LET CONTRACT AT MEMORIAL PARK Steady progress is being made in the work at Central Memorial park at Westminster, according to John H. McKenzie, general manager of this big project. "G. W. Cox of Sanga Ana has been awarded the contract for the curbing, gutters and roadwork in the first units of this park to be built. There will be more than a mile of driveways constructed under the present contract. They will be of heavily rolled disintegrated stone, surfaced with crushed granite. About 3000 feet of concrete curb and gutters will be built in this unit." "The drainage contract for the first unit has been let to H. H. Peterson, a man who installed the Bolmont Shore drainage system at Long Beach, and many other notable contracts of this kind in So. Calif. He is considered one of the foremost men in his particular line of work on the Pacific coast." "All the work in Central Memorial park is being built for permanency," said Mr. McKenzie. "Beauty of conception will be realized in honest workmanship. It will be a memorial for all time to the departed. And this great project which will set a new standard in burial places for the dead, will be for the people of Orange and Los Angeles-cos. Even now, we are seriously considering setting aside certain blocks for prominent cities of Orange-co, where no interments will be allowed except residents of those particular communities." Further announcements will be made on this feature, as the plans are matured. Mother had to leave little sister and the new baby in charge of big sister for the first time. Baby was crying lustily. Said Big Sister: "Oh, dear, why doesn't she stop crying? I don't know what to do with her." "Why? Didn't the directions come with her?" was Little Sister's reply. There has never been any doubt in the minds of founders that it would be carried through to successful completion, and by week—month by month—the work of grading, street making, concrete and drainage work has been going forward as closely as consistent with local administration and funds in hand would want. It is possible to visualize great undertaking and to the vast monetary saving going to mean to the people this and adjoining comes. For the scale of operations on which this company project is being carried will make it possible to into being here the most beautiful burial park in the entire West, protected by a permanent maintenance fund held in trust and administered by one of the great banking institutions of Long Beach. This will forever insure Central Memorial Park against the ignominious and often shameful condition into which the average cemetery eventually sinks because of the lack of a maintenance fund, after the lots have been sold off, when the owners cease to have any interest in the appearance of the property. Equally important: Central Memorial Park is so favorably situated that it can never experience such unfortunate conditions as in San Francisco, where they are removing 50,000 bodies in various cemeteries within the city limits; or as in Los Angeles, where the City Planning Commission has recommended the closing of a number of important cemeteries in the congested districts. You owe it to yourself and to your loved ones to learn more of the special advantages which pertain to ownership in burial plots in Central Memorial Park.
