COUNTRY CLUBS
HONOR STATE
PRESIDENT
ONE hundred fifty club women sat down at the prettily appointed tables yesterday at the luncheon given to honor Mrs. John Urquhart, state federation president who was the guest of Orange County club women in the new Eboll club home in Santa Ana.
After the dainty luncheon County President Mrs. E. E. Knight introduced the guest of honor who offered a few words of appreciation of the occasion. Southern district president Mrs. Kenneth Oliver made a brief talk and several officers of the state board, as they were introduced.
Mrs. Alfred Launer, president of Fullerton Ebbell, on behalf of the ladies, presented Mrs. Urquhart and Mrs. Oliver with sheaves of beautiful California blossoms.
Following the reception adjournment to the beautiful auditorium was in preparation for the afternoon program. Mrs. Herbert Sammis, county chairman of music, was in charge of this portion of the program. The club song sung with undeniable vigor, preceded the trombone number by D. Clanfont, who responded to encore, accompanied by Miss Ruth Armstrong. Mme Budrow sang two solos from Cadman's Indian compositions accompanied by Miss Mabel Woodworth.
The feature-of the afternoon, of course, was the address by Mrs. Urquhart who, she stated, "tried to bring the women a thought of joy." She stressed the theme of the "spiritual force of understanding." Club women were urged to remember that women were working toward one special ambition this year: world peace. She also urged that the Federation News Members of the Grace Lutheran church will join with other Lutherans of Orange-co in celebrating their annual mission festival at the Eucalyptus grove of West Orange Sunday morning and afternoon. Special speakers have been secured to present the great cause of missions and reports from the Pittsburgh convention will be brot by President Pauschert of the California synod who was one of the delegates. Music will be provided by choirs and soloists. At noon a picnic lunch will be enjoyed. Those attending from Anaheim may reach the grove by taking the first road to the right after crossing the Santa Ana river bridge and following the signs. Transportation will be provided for all who will be at Grace church by 9:30 o'clock.
