GIANTS THREATEN TO COP PENNANT
NEW YORK, Sept. 24.—Unite the Pirates play considerably better baseball today and tomorrow against the make-shift team Giants that trounced them thoroughly yesterday, it was apparent day that nothing short of an academic of smallpox or broken legs could keep the New York Nation leaguers from entering the fourth consecutive world series.
An epidemic of injured fins and bum ankles has failed do it.
With five games still remaining on their schedule the Giants afford to lose one and still win the pennant, even tho the Pittsburgh club wins all the seven still has carded and Brooklyn cleans up its three. The Giants attended to their share of the deal when they whipped the rates and the Dodgers helped their across-the-river rivals dropping one to the Cubs.
Should the Giants win three would have to win all three come out in a tie with the Giants while Pittsburgh could find ahead in that event by taking seven straight.
Brooklyn's only possible chance to win the pennant without a play-off with a tied leader would be for Pittsburgh to drop one its games while the Giants were losing three, meanwhile winning three straight itself.
The New York Yankees decided to be counted out of the American league chase. The Senators lead by two full games, w yesterday but the Yanke also won The Yanks still have a chance enter the world's series by winning five straight, provided Senators drop three of five, provided the Senators lose two five and the Yanks should win play-off.

CROSS COUNTRY
WASHINGTON, Sept. 24.—Enthused by reports of his independent campaign, Senator Robert M. LaFollette today was mapping out a speaking itinerary which will carry him from New England to the Pacific Coast next week.
Appeals from his managers in the middle and far west for him to invade this territory have determined La Follette to make the nation wide swing.
La Follette's chances for victory in the agricultural states of the Mississippi Valley and on the west coast are excellent, his son and closest advisers, Robert Jr., announced.
Two routes are under consideration for La Follette's swing around the circuit. The first would take him to New York again for his third speech and then into New England.
Under the second plan, La Follette would strike immediately into the middle west; probably first stumping in Ohio and Indiana, before going to Chicago.
From Chicago, there is some controversy among La Follette's managers whether he should go immediately to the northwest or stop for five or six days, speaking in Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska and Oklahoma all regarded as fertile territory by progressive managers.
La Follette plans to journey to the coast by the northern route, thru Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, the Dakotas, Montana, Wyoming, Oregon and Washington. About a week will be spent along the Pacific.
If the New England trip is forsaken at the start, La Follette will stump this territory after the western trip.
If his work can be sufficiently cleared up, La Follette intends to leave Washington within ten days or two weeks at the latest. He does not plan to return until after the election.
Tagging All Bases
Dazzy Vance held the Cubs to four hits—three of which were home runs, which explains why the Cubs beat the Dodgers, 5 to 4 in 10 innings.
Thud was the sound of the Pirates when they hit the ground before the assault of the Giants 'scrub team' 5 to 1 in the first game of the so-called crucial series.
Bob Shawkey held something of his old skill in whipping the Cleveland Indians, 8 to 2, for the Yankees.
The Washington Senators re-entered by reports of his independent campaign, Senator Robert M. LaFollette today was mapping out a speaking itinerary which will carry him from New England to the Pacific Coast next week.

The firm has the exclusive manufacturing rights to the Gas and oil carburetor, Scott Ross pump jack and gas anchorthe Anderson sucker rod coiling and the Whitten check valve and type midway head.

STOCK MARKET RALLIES FURTHER
NEW YORK, Sept. 24. Conditions in the stock market today favored a continuation of the rally in stock prices. Many of the active industrial and railroad stocks were pushed up vigorously to higher levels, some of which represented the highest prices at which these stocks had changed hands this year. Starting with the industrials and specialty stocks, the movement soon spread to the rails, in many of today's performances were more spectacular than anything that has been seen in the market for a week or more.
Southern Railway moved up to 70. The advance has netted four points since Saturday. St. Louis Southwestern moved up 3 points to 44%; Ruthland pfd gained 3 and sold at a new high of 61%; New York Central, New Haven Seaboard, Air Line, Mo. Pac. Frisco common and Western Maryland common constituted the balance of the active list in the rails.
U. S. Steel led the industrial leaders into higher levels as buying orders poured into the market.
Worthington Pump was again the star performer in the specialty stocks with a quick run-up to 46½ for a further gain of 2 points at which price a large volume of transactions were recorded. Phila Co. and United Railways Investment pfd were the most prominent in the public utility group, the latter at 49 completing a 10 point rise since dropping abruptly from 54 to 38. Oil stocks were supplied freely to the market. Few were able to maintain the level of prices at Tuesday's close. Coden dropped about $1½ points from yesterday's high; Maryland and Phillips were reactionary but Standar Ols, both on the curb and in the listed market sold at price gains.
Better buying of the motor stocks resulted in a general ad-
