WEEKLY REVIEW OF OIL INDUSTRY
By Elwood J. Munger
Oil productions at Rosecrans Southern California's new market oil field is fast assuming some importance. The wonder high-gravity Rosecrans district now has five wells on production and putting out a daily aggregate of close to 4000 barrels. During the past week the Associated Oil Company completed and put on production Higgins 1, a 359 barrel well at 4384. This well like its offsets is making the usual 42 gravity oil. The Union Oil Co.'s Gray Well has made a flow of 540 barrels and looks like a steady producer.
Developments in the extreme northwest area of the Rosecrans Athens field continue interesting in spite of the fact that the test well of the district, the Sentinel Oil Company's Brown is getting rather deep. Authentic information from the Browa well put the depth at close to 4700 feet. Aside from a fog gas pockets and rainbow colors the well has revealed nothing to get excited over, and it begins to look as though if anything is opened up in the northwest area it will be a very deep sand. Coming along behind the Sentinel Well is the Julian Petroleum Corporation's Athens I at 4500 and J. B. Dabney at 4500 and the Petroleum Midway's Ducommon well temporarily held up with a fishing job at 3400 feet. To date none of these wells have had any very favorable showing making the entire territory all look deep.

DEATH TOLL IN MINE BLAST 38
KEMMERER, Wyo., Sept. 18—The death toll in the terrific mine blast that wrecked mine number five of the Kemmerer Coal Co., at Sublet, near here, today was definitely placed at 28 by P. J. Quealy, president of the company.
Quealy who despite his age has worked feverishly in leading the rescue workers in their efforts to remove the victims from the stricken mine, told International News Service today that a close check-up showed that fifty men were in the workings when the explosion occurred.
Of these 12 made their way to safety alive. Twenty-seven bodies the majority showing signs of having been burned by the fire that broke out following the explosion have been brought to the surface.
Seven others have been located and are expected to be removed early today while the remaining four will be searched for during the day.
Good progress was being made in removing the debris from twisted beams slag and rock caveins and it was expected the last body would be taken out before nightfall.
Quealy declared that the company had been unable as yet to determine the cause of the explosion. He said only electric safety lamps were used by the workmen, that safety powder was always furnished them and every possible precaution taken to prevent accidents. This statement led to the belief that an early report that a spark from a tool had caused the blast was correct.
Most of the victims were foreigners and the condition of many bodies made the work of identification slow. While stricken survivors milled around the two undertaking establishments here, city officials and civic leaders of Kemmerer today planned to hold one large funeral for all the victims.
Public services probably will be held in the little triangle park in the union of Kemmerer.

PRINCE OF WALES VISITS NEW YORK
SYOSSET. N. Y., Sept. 18.—A big limousine was waiting today outside the door of the James A. Burden home here to shoot the Prince of Wales over to New York city for his fourth visit.
Captain A. K. Lascelles, secretary to prince, said Wales was so pleased with his visit yesterday afternoon that it was "very likely he would go again today to see the more serious side of the city."
It was hinted that Manhattan might see a good deal of the prince between now and Sunday night, when he will depart for his ranch in High River Alberta, Canada.
"The prince has been anxious ever since he came to Long Island," said Lascelles. "to do little things such as his visit to Jillian Reechnin High School and the Museum of Natural History. He could not do it very well until this week; however, because of engagements that had been made and because of the polio matches, which he came to see."
"Is the prince doing this merely as a spectator, captain?" Lascelles was asked; "since his station is divorced from the executive branch" of the British government?
"No," was the answer. "what the prince observes here will reflect in England, because in last century the relations between the royal family and the active heads of the government have been closer."
The fact that the prince wished to see more of the serious side of America is what caused him to postpone until next Sunday his trip to Canada. Study of this kind he undertakes because he realizes that it is all part of his job preparing for the job he some day must undertake as king."
