SUGGESTIONS
A little varnish now and then
will keep the ordinary floor in good condition. It is the floors
that are let go until badly defaced at cause trouble and expense.
A gallon of varnish will cover 10 square feet of surface, and
it with the required brush,
which should be a rubber set one,
almost all the cost for home talt floor renewing.
First the floor must be scrubbed
ard; this is not only to get it
can bkt it removes some of the
finish as well. This is allowed
dry thoroughly and is followed
in scrubbing with sandpaper,
out size 1-0 or 00 will do. This
important, as it leaves the floor
soft and ready for new finish.
However, all the dust from the
papar must be very thoroughed.
LEGION ELECTION MAY BE DEADLOCK
ST. PAUL, Minn., Sept. 18.
Prospects of a deadlock in the American Legion election for a national commander to succeed John R. Quinn of California were breaking today. The election will take place today. Gen. J. J. Drain of the District of Columbia, Gen. John R. McQuigg of Ohio, and Harrison Fuller, past state commander of Minnesota, were prominently mentioned.
The boom for Gen. John J.
Pershing has subsided because the legionnaires have been told the general wants to stay in private life.
Monahan Post band of Sioux City, Ia., won first place in the band competition last night. Cedar Falls, Iowa, ran third.
Racine, Wis., winner of first place with its float in Tuesday's parade, added to its honor last night when its Legion post drum corps won the drum and bugle corps competition. Omaha, Neb.
Post Number 1, was second.
A resolution was adopted demanding that congress pass whatever special legislation is needed to waive the age limit and restore General Pershing and pledging the Legion to lead the fight "to make his valuable counsel available to those responsible for the national defense."
Gen. Pershing, the resolution declared, "showed himself one of the greatest soldiers in the nation's history and when retired was helping the nations to profit by its war lessons and to organize its defenses for peace."
The convention unanimously thanked all members of congress whose vote overcode President Coolidge's veto of the adjusted compensation act and a copy of the resolution will be mailed to each of them.
Other resolutions adopted today asked amendment of the civil service laws to give members preference and make it mandatory to appoint a veteran if on the eligible list; ask legislation to prohibit discharging men and women from government employ except by regular civil service proceedings; and asked a change in the compensation act to allow any veteran who wishes to sign his rights over to any patriotic organization chartered by Congress.
Congress was asked to strengthen the U.S. Navy as a defense economy-cut price and everyone goods to ten dollars.
