BE EXAMINED IF YOU SEE '70 PLUS'
HARRISBURG, Pa., Sept. 17.
If you receive a letter with the mysterious mark '70-plus' written on the back, don't call a policeman—call a doctor.
It is just a warning to you—if you are middle-aged or over—that by an annual health examination your life can be extended to 70 years and perhaps more.
This symbol has been adopted by the Pennsylvania Department of Health in its longevity campaign, and everybody is urged to write the remainder on the back of letters.
The move is statewide and was inaugurated by Dr. William C. Miller, chief of the Bureau of Public Health Education.
"If you show a touch of gray about the temple," Dr. Miller said, "it is a warning that you have spent more of your life than you have left. You are now at the middle-age period, where four preventable diseases take such a heavy toll annually."
The diseases are: "Bright's disease, cancer, diabetes and heart disease."
"These all belong to the gray-haired period of life," Dr. Miller asserts. "They are all slow of development; and an annual health examination, which would give a clean bill of health in regard to any of these conditions, would mean that the individual would be safe for at least one year."
"When you see the '70-plus' sign, call your family doctor and make a date for a health examination to find out how you stand with yourself."

PLACENTIA, Sept. 17.—(Spl.) School opened with a much increased enrollment and a number of new teachers in all the schools. Everyone was apparently happy over this event and a very profitable and happy years is being predicted.
After almost two weeks of investigation, checking and re-checking, Placentia has won an approval from Inspector Jarvis for a recommendation to the postmaster general of a rural mail route that will give Placentia and Olinda patrons service from the early eastern mail and the early Los Angeles mail much quicker than they are getting it now. After making adjustments with Fullerton on their route No. 2 and with Anaheim No. 3 and Yorba Linda, who has also been recommended for a route, the Placentia route will be 24½ miles long. This puts it into the position of being an A route, that will pay a full time man $1800 and guarantee first class delivery service. According to Secretary Lee, who has talked with Inspector Jarvis of the postal service, Mrs. Abbott and Mr. White of the local office, the route will start out west along Crawther-ave to Anderson station corner, thence north along Placentia-ave to Palm-drv, east of Placentia again and north through the off fields, angling east to Carolina-ave, thence across to Valencia-ave up through the Olinda district and back to Rose-drv, then west to Valencia again and down that avenue to Yorba Linda-bldd, which it will follow west to Newell-rd, going south on Newell through the Morse oil lease and back west on Palm-drv to Carolina-ave, when it will go north about half a mile to give service to half a dozen families now off the main route, then down Bradford-ave to Madison, then east to Kraemer and south on Kraemer to Alta Vista and out that street to the Richfield oil fields and south to the main Placentia Richfield, which it will travel west to Dearborn.
