PROMISE GROWER BETTER THINGS
With 65 per cent of the Florida growers organized in the Florida Citrus Exchange, compared with 30 per cent last year, rebuted understanding reached between California and Florida to prevent demoralization of the market, and a movement about to be concluded to graduate shipments of citrus fruit properly throut, the season, the grower's prospects for better things this coming season appear bright.
As one of the local managers remarked today, the efficacy of any new marketing agreement in California depends upon its proper observance. Repeatedly in the past one organization or another would yield to the temptation to rush its fruit to market, when prices were good, and by crowding smash price levels to prices.
The recommendations made by the growers' committee, which was formed at Redlands several months ago, have been submitted to the salesmanagers who control the distribution of more than 90 per cent of the citrus fruit crop of the state, and is now being discussed by them.
Boiled down, the recommendations have eight points, as follows:
1. Formation of a sales managers committee by all selling organizations representing at least 30 per cent of the California citrus crop, consisting of a representative from the California Fruit Growers Exchange, Mutual Orange Distributors, American Fruit Growers, Randolph Marketing Co., and the remaining shipners to be segregated into two or three geographical groups with a representative selected from each of said groups.
Auto Club's Patrol Cars Make Themselves Generally Useful
Patrol Car No. 62—Encountered an aeroplane which made a forced landing near Capistrano because of motor trouble. The patrol driver, who formerly was with the British Air Service, was familiar with aeroplanes. With the help of adequate tools from his car equipment, he speedily remetled the trouble. The pilot extended his thanks, and fortunately having landed on a lovely piece of ground was soon on his way.
One hundred and twenty-eight pounds of broken metal, consisting of spring leaves, bolts, nails etc., a real menace to tires, schittered all over Slawson-ave. for a few blocks on either side of Alameda-st. was picked up in two days by Patrol Car No. 67.
Patrol Car No. 65—On the coast route, north of Santa Barbara, put out two grass fires in one week, both of which would have ended in a serious conflagration over a large area, if not extinguished at the proper time.
Patrol Car No. 70 helped clear one ton of grapes off the highway on the Ridge Route. The truck which had been hauling the grape turned over, spilling and mashing the slippery pulps all over the road.
This same Patrol Car a few days earlier while patrolling the Ridge Route encountered near the summit a horse and spring wagon, the latter carrying four Mexicans. The horse had apparently slipped on the pavement and fallen. Close examination by Patrol Driver, however, disclosed the patrol car to the wagon and towed it with the bereaved Mexicans into Bakerfield, later making arrangements for the removal of the dead animal.
Patrol Car No. 63 arrived on the scene of a very serious automobile accident just north of Bakerfield in which the driver of the car involved was instantly killed. The Patrol Driver first took steps to notify the coroner then transported the other uninjured occupants of the wrecked car to Bakerfield; telegraphed the sad news to the unfortunate motorist's relatives and returned to the scene of the accident to make arrangements for the removal of the wrecked car from the highway.
Patrol Car No. 59, stationed in the imperial Valley, came across a car on fire, burning fiercely on the highway. The Patrol Driver applied his large fire extinguisher with which all the patrol cars are equipped for such emergencies, put out the fire and then towed the car to the nearest official garage.
Over the Labor Day holidays, the duties of all the Patrol Drivers were very heavy. The drivers proved of value to a great many motorists whose cars were disabled on the highways and many were the triflic jams straightened out by the efforts of the men volunteering their services as traffic officers.

"It won't take long, dearie," she answered, consolingly. "You haven't much to say."
Suddenly there came to the cars of the bridegroom the voice of the minister, saying, "Kindly change places with the bride."
The bridegroom tried to do so,
but stepped on the toe of her shoe
and raised his arm, caught the cuff button in her veil.
"Do be careful!" she implored.
The minister began the coremony. The bridegroom grew more and more enbathraised.
"If any person knows any just reason," said the minister, "why these two should not be joined together, let him now speak——"
"I will!" shouted the bridegroom.
