BRAZEN CONG ARONSES/
CONVINCTS FROM NOW ON
Continued from page one
Quick as a flash it was over. Less than fifty feet from the stalled car the train had come to a stop.
"My God!" Leopold gulped.
"We're driving too fast."
Babe, the unemotional, soon caught himself. His fear turned to levity.
"What's the hurry," he said.
"We've got at least fifty years."
A few minutes of waiting and then the race to the prison was resumed. The two slayers managed to the assistant warden of the county jail, sat on the rear seat of the machine, puffing cigarettes.
Suddenly Babe broke the silence.
Suddenly Babe broke the silence.
"Tough towns, Summit and Argo," he noted as they passed thru them.
"If there's going to be trouble, we ought to get it here."
The words gave Dick courage.
"Geel I remember this country," he said absently stroking his chin as tho it were a beard.
"Night on fifty years ago," he continued with a former-like drawl, "I went down this town."
Those in front turned sharply to look at him and Dick broke off sharply. Had he then foreseeing a trip back, a release from prison in 1874,
"The came the last lap. The moon had come out and its silver light left a blue tinge on the black of night." The great walls of the penitentiary loomed up, ghostly on the moonlight.
"There they are," Leopold, involuntarily had spoken his words before going behind them.
Lobb sat there silence looking—yes there they were—these great massive harcades, and five minutes later two badly frightened youths who had been Nathan Leopold, Jr., and Richard A. Loeb, intellectuals, "supermen," incapable of emotion, had passed before hind those huge ramparts, "for the rest of their natural lives and 28 years."
The slender man owes his hill climbing qualities to the flexibilty of his frame.

FASCIST DEPUTY FATALLY WOUNDED
MILAN, Italy, Sept. 12—There was a tragic repercussion from the Matecotti assassination today when Armando Casalini, a Fascist member of the chamber of deputies, was shot and mortally wounded on his villa estate today by a private guard.
Casalini died a few hours later. It was first believed that the crime was one of private vengeance without any political significance, but it proved that the assassin had acted from a political motive.
The murderer, Antonio Corali, told police he killed Casalini to vindicate the assassination of Socialist Deput Matteootti. A number of pictures of Matteootti were found in Corali's pockets.
Coral said he acted alone, that no one directed or aided him.
