Real Estate and Rentals SLOW GOING IN NOBLE JURY PANEL Court machinery moved with reluctance today as the trial of Ira Noble, charged with murdering G. B. Rutherford at La Habra, following a poker game quarrel, opened in Superior Judge R. Y. Williams' department. Questioning jurors occupied the entire morning session, with every indication apparent that the afternoon would not see a jury selected. The new panel appeared in court for the first time. L. A. West, Santa Ana attorney of defense counsel, examined four of these with extraordinary care, indicating the defense will fight every inch of the way. Those four were passed for "cause" after two of the four examined declared themselves as opposed to capital punishment. Court attaches, from the line of questioning, asserted their belief that C. N. Mozley, chief deputy district attorney and conducting the state's case, would ask the death penalty were the prisoner convicted of the charge against him. SENDS EMIR HOME WASHINGTON, Sept. 10.—The department of labor today issued a warrant for the deportation of the Emir of Kurdestan. It was sent to immigration agents in Baltimore, who will locate the emir, now believed to be in New York, and put him on a ship for Europe. The president of Assyria is a woman, Lady Surma Mar Singon. She has jurisdiction over 80,000 square miles of territory in the Kurdistan mountains. CHIFFON VELVET GOWN HAS MANY NEW FEATURES STOCK MARKETS SHOW DECLARED By W. S. COUSINS (J. N. S. Financial Editor) NEW YORK, Sept. 10—To session of the stock market dull and irregular, with spurts of activity punctuating efforts of professional trade force prices up or down. The rally in prices continued until shortly before the noon mark with the independent oils leading a spirited advance. With the "good news" out with prices materially higher last week's low, the bears covered the time propitious, for tending their short lines. Bringing with the speculative lead which fell back two to four pips on comparative light prey they gradually extended their to other parts of the list limited buying was encountered and prices declined in the way. Some of the off shares dropped their new gains as easily as acquired them and it was evident that there is not much ability to the new price level. Union Bag and Paper was next stock to feel the effect of the passing of the regular dend, though that action, taking the directors today, was not a prize to the street. The stock 4½ points to a new lo watt but recovered two points. Tea was set back nearly 4 pts and made a new low at 14¾ heavy selling concentrated short period; Daniel Boone was only temporarily weak owing to passing of its dividend, after loss of yesterday's session: A lean Ice received a new bldg. CLOSE RACE IN COLO. PRIMARY DENVER, Sept. 10.—Returns today at noon from approximately one-half of the 1,492 precincts in Colorado gave Clarence J. Morie a slight lead over Robert A. Rockwell for governor in yesterday's Republican primary. Morie's early outstanding lead, established by the Denver vote, was being gradually wiped out however, and indications were that Rockwell would receive the nomination. In the contest for the short term for United States senator in the Republican party, Rice W. Means' early lead was also being overcome by returns from over the state, with indications that Chas W. Waterman would be the nominee. Both Morie and Meins were endorsed by the Ku Klux Klan. Senator L.C. Phipps, Republican incumbent and Senator Alva Davis were uprooted for renomination to the long term senatorship, as was Governor William E.Sweet, Democratic gubernatorial candidate. Morrison Shafroth was nominated by Democrats for the short term senatorship over Ben C.Hillard by a wide margin. He pointed out that an alliance the three nations is not an impossibility, and if a German-Russian-Chinese-Japanese combination came about, it would be serious for the world. "What could withstand a union of sian-Chinese-Japanese combination do to the plans of the world?" asked Gen. Harbord. "What could withstand a union of white, yellow and brown gathered from the Rhine to the China Sea, and what is there impossible or even unlikely in such an alliance?" As to Monroe Doctrine "With all the Latin-American states in the League of Nations can we maintain the Monroe Doctrine with these countries, south of us carrying their disputes before that political organization for settlement?" These are some of the things that should be considered by those who are moved by the plea for disarmament. American armaments have never been a real factor in either the causation or prevention of war except when they have been inadequate they have encouraged stronger powers to presume upon our supposed weakness. It is for that reason that most military men who have studied history are of the opinion that far from being a cause of war, adequate American armaments would tend to quiet any international situation. "But when it comes to the world, exclusive of the American continent, it must be admitted that a competitive growth of armament breeds a feeling of international insecurity. In close contiguity there is little difference between what is needed to defend you and that which could be used to intimidate your next door neighbor." Wait, there's a typo in my transcription: "Eggene Durfee Architect" The word "Architect" is likely a typo or error in transcription (it might be "Architect"). Let me re-read line one: "I...EGGENE DURFEE ARCHITECT bone 692, New Kraemer Bldg., Anabeim, Calr" Line two: "Funny world: We put sick children in outdoor schools to get them sick." Line three: "Like new." No clear indication of whether it's new or not.
