"Fuzzy" Davidson To Be Back; Duray's Car Is Barred
The Italian Victory Grown dash at Ascot, which resumes its right races next Saturday will be a whirlwind contest. Eddie Meyer, Frank Lockhart, Cliff Bergere and Floyd Roberts will be the principal contenders, with Meyer and Lockhart probably furnishing most of the excitement.
The track is being improved considerably. A new system of Resta, Speed King, Meets Awful End
The death of Dario Resta on Wednesday at the Brookfields, England, track removes one of the most prominent drivers in the game. Resta was instantly killed when his 160 horsepower grand prix Sunbeam, out to break the 50-kilometer record, skidded for 300 yards, turned sideways, dashed over a bank into an iron fence and burst into flames. Resta was almost decapitated when he was hurried from the machine. His mechanic, William Perkins was only slightly hurt.

There will be six auto and three motorcycle races.
To return to the Italian Victory Crown fight, it will be openly to cars of 12½ enclosed miles and under. Duray took the crown away from DePalma and now may lose it, because his car has been judged too big.
The announcement brought joy to Duray's chief competitors named above.
CHRYSLER EASILY BESTS IOWA MUD
After driving thru a sea of Iowa mud 12 to 19 inches deep, Miss H. M. Knaggs of San Diego, in a letter to the Greer-Robbins Co., distributors, has named her Chrysler "The Galloping Fish."
"As a whole I think the Chrysler is the only car on the market," she declares.
"I drove a Chrysler Brougham from Detroit, Mich., to Los Angeles, Calif., 3092 miles, in 11 days on 147 gallons of gasoline, 10¼ quarts of oil, and one gallon of water, averaging 21½ miles to the gallon of gasoline.
"We came over the Lincoln highway to Ely, Nev., then over Midland Trail to Los Angeles, coming thru Iowa during storm, road very bad, a sea of mud one foot to 19 inches deep. Drove it without chains, having no trouble whatsoever; car in good condition but dirty."

COUNTY WILL MACADAMIZE BROAD ST.
The paving of Broad-st with macadam from the State highway to Placentia-ave will be started on Monday, the office of the county superintendent of highways announced today. The county itself will do the work. The improvement is one of several to roads running into Anaheim.
This week the county started, also, on the grading and graveling of Santa Ana-st from the city limits to Placentia-ave.
Work on Cedar-st, whichew will be out thru from Brea to the State highway and then paved with asphalt, will start within 10 days or so, it was announced today. The contract was awarded on Tuesday to the Griffith Co. of Los Angeles.
Simultaneously the work of paving with concrete 17th street, Santa Ana, to Westminster will be started by the same concern.
The rehabilitation of Katella-rd, the main east-west thorofare between Ball-rd and West Chapman, is in progress. The road has been re-graded and coiled, following its partial breakup during the West Chapman-ave improvement. It looks now as if the road for perhaps the first time would receive a first class oiled surface. Over part of its course the improvement has been difficult because of the sandy soil.
Haster-st and W. Orangewood-ave will have to wait for a little while yet.

SACRAMENTO, Sept. 6.
Boards of supervisors throughout the state are displaying splendid cooperation in the arrangement thereby they have been asked to turn back sufficient funds to the state treasury to pay the salaries of traffic officers for the coming months. This was indicated today in letters and telegrams received at the offices of the Division of Motor Vehicles by Chief Bill H. Marsh.
The fund from which the money will be taken represents the appointment to each county of Motor Vehicle receipts for the first month of the year, and the shortage is due to the fact that receipts are light during the last half of the year.
The division has not received a single refusal to comply with the request which has the approval of the board of control, the state controller and the attorney general. Marsh said today. He added:
"This may look like taking money out of one pocket and putting it into another, but the attorney general has advised us that is the only legal way to insure continuance of the good work we officers are doing.
"As a matter of fact practically all the counties of the state will receive nearly twice as much money this year from motor registration fees and gasoline taxes last year. In case any counties refuse to meet the request we will have to put off the officers until there is money to pay them.
"The law is defective in this regard and I am preparing an amendment for submission to theoming legislature that will take care of the situation next year.
"If supervincors will comply promptly with our request it will give us a great deal of trouble, so we want to get our payrolls straightened out."
INTEREST SPREADS IN NEW NASH CAR
The new Nash models offered at what, considering the extra equipment, amount to considerable reductions are making the public really prick up its ears now, according to the Nash-Boyes Co., local distributors.
Interest, now that full appreciation of the really new car being offered is felt, has been growing steadily. The public has begun to realize that a radical change like balloon tires can't be put on a car without violating the previous mechanical unity that existed, and the new steering mechanism, perhaps the most perfect dovised, is calling forth enthusiastic comment.
These Are School Days; Watch Out For Kiddies on Streets
Look out for the kiddies!
With the opening of school for the fall term, tens of thousands of youngsters, many of them just starting their school life, will be flocking to the streets, and the danger of accident automatically will be increased many fold over the vacation period.
Motorists are cautioned to watch carefully because of this new influx of child jay-walkers. The public safety department of the Auto Club of So. Calif. is reminding motorists of this fact and urging that they recall safety suggestions of the past, especially not encouraging the youngsters to frequent the streets by giving them free rides.
Many of the children have been playing in the open spaces during the summer and are very apt to forget to "Stop, look and listen" before going into the street in pursuit of the elusive ball or in the excitement of a game of tag. Every ice-wagon, sand pile or pile of building material serves as a magnet to the children and they may be expected to dart out in the most unexpected manner in the neighborhood of such locations.
The Auto Club says:
When approaching children do not be afraid to use a horn, but do not depend upon it to blow the children off the street and replace your brake.
If you see children trying to cross the street, give them a chance and wait for them, as you would like to have another motorist wait for some one who is near and dear to you.
With the observance of these suggestions it is hoped to reduce the unnecessary loss of life among children during the coming year.
Public reductions are making the public really prick up its cars now, according to the Nash-Boyes Co., local distributors.

The new four-wheel brakes, air-feed oiling system etc. may nothing about the beauty of one and finish are carrying their impression also.
GRANT PERMIT FOR BIG DRINKING CLUB TIA JUANA, Sept. 6.—The Mexican government at Mexico City has granted permission to a score or more of American business men, with headquarters in Los Angeles for the erection of a 10,000,000 club on Coronado Islands, 35 miles south of here and in Mexican waters, according to Ingeriero Ignacio Romero, general agent of agriculture and land development for the Mexican government in Lower California.
The club, it is said, will have for its purpose a quiet and exclusive place where its sponsors may partake of liquors without interruption.

FACTORY ORDERS GAIN, SAYS WILLYS
With retail sales in excess of 18,000 cars for the month of July, Willys-Overland dealer stocks are down to a normal basis and factory orders are again increasing, according to a statement issued by John N. Willys, president of the Willys-Overland Co.
"Willys-Overland has been very successful in reducing both dealer stocks and inventory in the past 90 days. Dealer stocks have been reduced more than 30,000 cars and factory inventory has been reduced $11,000,000. Factory current liabilities were reduced $15,-000,000 in the second quarter. July sales by dealers were equal to last July, and June sales eclipsed any previous month," he said.
"We have invested a great deal of money in our sales and engineering departments during the past year and have incurred large costs as have most manufacturers, in assisting to carry cars for the dealers during the winter months in anticipation of an excess demand that did not develop in the spring. But all of this is now behind and orders are increasing daily. We have reduced our funded debt $1,000,000 and have no bank indebtedness."
"The improvement in farm conditions is already felt in agricultural sections. In our Kansas City branch, which covers a large farming territory, July sales brought stock below normal. Chicago branch deliveries were also greatly increasing in July."
CITY CREEK ROAD CLOSED SEPT. 8-12
City Creek road to Big Bear will be closed from Highlands on to all travel during the week of Sept. 8-12, but opened for weekend trips Sept. 12-14, says the San Bernardino office of the Auto Club in So. Calif.
The road is to be widened and generally improved. If the work is not completed in the one week, a second week will be used.
The club's branch offices are asked by headquarters to route no travel into San Gabriel canyon from Azusa north. because of fires. Many thousands of acres of land have been burned over.

County Fines in August Are $1145
The county motorcycle squad had another busy month during August, when fines aggregating $1145 for automobile offences of one sort or another were collected.
This total isn't anything like some of those when speed traps were used freely, but it is far ahead of certain months of this year. Criminal fines totaled $1941 and civil $88.

How local tire dealers have saved themselves thousands of dollars in losses by following a conservative policy in regard to balloon tires is just becoming apparent.
Thru the aid of the Plain Dealer which published repeated statements, based on information from experts, warning the trade against proceeding too fast with the new tire, none of the Anaheim firms loaded up with either the doughnuts or the semi-halloons, but purchased only on orders. Sufficient time now has elapsed to show the wisdom of this.
Dealers also avoided over-stocking, and achieved a saving there, too, for the reason that prices of certain sizes during the past month or two have been literally (Continued on Page Three)
The Improved COACH on the HUDSON Super-Six
With automobile production sagging considerably over the high levels of 1923, the August total was 268,477 cars and trucks, 6509 more than in July and a gain of approximately two per cent, according to dispatches today.
The Pacific Coast, which regards itself as somewhat in the doldrums as compared with 1923, is practically leading the country proportionately in sales. This isn't news to Californians, for this State recently passed New York and headed the Union in registrations of all motor vehicles combined.
Auto accessories the past week sold heavily in the Southland.
According to U. S. Department of Commerce figures, 1924 during the first six months produced 1,806,502, while the banner year of 1923 produced only a little more than double that figure or 3,637,216. In fact, the first six months of this year slightly outdid the second six months of 1923, the gain amounting to 242 vehicles.
Truck production hasn't declined proportionately as much as passenger car, partly because of the increasing number of companies making them.

Closed Car Comforts at EXACTLY Open Car Cost

And now full size balloon tires are standard equipment. Do not confuse with "semi-balloon" types. Hudson's are genuine, full size balloon tires—33"x6.20". Compare the difference.
Hudson has not simply "added balloon tires." Both running and steering gear have been especially designed to compensate for the radical differences balloon tires bring.
The result is the easiest steering, most comfortable and steadiest riding Hudson ever built. And braking efficiency is almost doubled.
