NO VENISON IN CLOSED DISTRICTS Deer meat won't be shipped into or across closed districts this year from open districts, until the latter are opened, in spite of a court decision at Fernando last year, requiring the payment back of a fine of $300 levied on a party of prominent Anaheimers who were accused of violating the law. The party in question consisted of John Cook, his sons, Al and William, Pete Wisser, Paul Nichols and Dick Strudoff. The party went hunting up in Lassen-co and got seven bucks. After the court fight was ended, they received orders two or three different times for the meat, but couldn't get it, because it had been sold. Two of the deer they ate and they brought back all of the heads. Most of the meat had been brought as far as Newhall, where it was confiscated, and the trial took place at San Fernando. The law says that an affidavit must be obtained, showing who killed the deer, where and when in order to ship it to open territory. A copy of this must be left with a notary or justice of the peace before whom sworn and another copy filed with the State Fish and Game Commission. In spite of the lack of affidavit, the fine was repealed, but the law stands unchanged. MELLON PREDICT WORLD PROSPERITY WASHINGTON, Sept. 4.—Taking up his official duties here after a two months tour of the capitals of Europe, Secretary of Treasury Mellon declared today that his observations abroad convinced him that the European CYPRESS CYPRESS, Sept. 4—(Spl.)—Ralph Scally was taken to the Cypress Emergency Hospital late Saturday evening where Doctor M. H. Damron performed an operation for appendicitis. Mr. Scally is getting along very well. Freida Priddy who had her tonsils and adenoids removed at the Cypress Hospital Friday morning is recovering rapidly. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Rennie and children Alfred and Euna, motorized to Culver City Sunday to visit Mr. Rennie's sister, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sampson. Chesley and Carey Cawthon and Earl Smith left Thursday on a two weeks' fishing and hunting trip in the northern part. Word has been received of them from Redding, California, that everything is closed on account of forest fires so they are going over to the coast. Mrs. H. W. Webb and Miss Alice Beckwith of San Pedro have been spending a few days with Mrs. B. C. Sconce. Mrs. W. C. Miller underwent a serious operation Saturday at the Cypress hospital, which was performed successfully by Dr. M. H. Damron of Long Beach. Mrs. Miller is getting along nicely and will be able to leave the hospital in about two weeks. Mae Priddy, Roberta and Blanche Cawthon and Alice Beckwith attended a beach party at the cottage of Mrs. J. C. Cawton, Jr., at Long Beach Saturday and attended a show there in the evening. Little Beva Priddy has returned home from a few days visit with her aunt, Mrs. R. Mosey of Long Beach. Mrs. L. J. Falican of Coachella WEEKLY REVIEW OF OIL INDUSTRY The Shell Company's Kettle No. 2 on which much of the oil texture of the Torrance field is driving at close to 4500. While the showings are not big and would not cause any excitement they are encouraging. At 4500 the show is streaked with sand that carries oil showings. Forty-eight hundred is the mark set for the Kettle test well to show whether or not the future production of the Torrance field is to come from a deep sand. The Pan-American Petroleum Company has just closed a more successful development campaign at Torrance with the completion and putting on production of four wells. Completions on the Andrews, Palmer, Dewitt and Pad Properties netted producers running from a 150 to 300 barrels. Extreme east Torrance will have a chance to make showings with the announcement that the Shell Company of California will carry the Dolores well on down and find out if there is a possibility of increasing the productivity of the well from 25 barrels something worthwhile. Dolores N.J has been given a thorough production test at 3670 feet. Developments this week Dominguez reveals the fact that the Superior Oil Company's Capenter property must be either on the structure or else it suffers severe dip. Drilling on the Capenter well has passed the 516 foot mark without getting any oil to speak of. The Carpenter well is the most northeasterly way yet to be drilled at Dominguez. The Marland Oil Company first California producer No. 1 Dominguez has not effected MELLON PREDICT WORLD PROSPERITY WASHINGTON, Sept. 4. Taking up his official duties here after a two months tour of the capitals of Europe, Secretary of Treasury Mellon declared today that his observations abroad convinced him that the European governments were making a conscientious effort to bring about a settlement of the reparations problem and that the progress thus far gave promise of a general era of world prosperity. Payment of reparations by Germany thru the operation of the Dawes plan will make it possible, Mellon said, for the United States to begin the collection of the $6,000,000,000 of war debts owed by European nations. The bobbed hair craze has extended over Europe as well as America. It has brought a boom to the German scissors industry, but has greatly reduced the business of hair-pin manufacturers. Mrs. L.J.Falcone of Coachella is visiting at the home of Mrs. J.C.Cawthon, Sr. Misses Marjorie Cutter and Roberta Cawthon were Cypress members of a party that attended the "Pilgrimage Play" Friday night. Mrs.B.C.Scone and Mrs.H.W.Webb were visitors in Long Beach Saturday afternoon. Mr.Harold Blythe has been confined to his home on account of illness the past week, but is much improved now. Carl and Gladys Ledford, motored to Orange County Park Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Chas.Walton and family of Westminster visited the G.M.Dickens family Sunday. Mrs.C.O.Ledford is home from Los Angeles for about ten days. Ms.C.R.Johns and daughters Edith and Edna attended a family reunion at Sunset Canyon Country Club Sunday. Mrs.Steve Luther and family spent last week at the big ranch home of R.B.Luther in Paso Robles. They would like to have stayed longer. Mr. and Mrs.John Allmend and family spent Sunday in Long Beach. The W.D.Ledfords are remodeling their house inside. The Cypress Farm Center held its regular monthly meeting last night and the attendance was not so good as usual. In the short business meeting motion was carried regarding division of money taken in by the Chamber of Commerce at its box social. The same motion will be put at the next Chamber of Commerce meeting. The picnic for the Farm Centers of Orange county will be held Saturday Sept. 6 in Orange county park and everyone is urged to attend. The president of the Farm Bureau Federation will be present as well as about 20 delegates from different states. People are asked to bring extra cups, knives and forks, etc., for these delegates. Coffee and sugar will be furnished. A short program concluded the meeting last night. Miss Mae Bingham gave a clever little reading and Marguerite Burget gave a fancy dance. The "Kitchen Sink-o-paters" a jazz orchestra composed of Mae Priddy, piano, Edna Rennie, saxophone (coffee-pot) Roberta Cawthon, violin (comb and paper) and Blanche Cawthon drums (wash faucet with water). Developments this week Dominguez reveals the fact that the Superior Oil Company's Carpenter property must be either or the structure or else it suffers severe dip. Drilling on the Carpenter well has passed the 516 foot mark without getting any oil to speak of. The Carpenter well is the most northeastery we yet to be drilled at Dominguez. The Marland Oil Company first California producer No. 1 Dominguez has not effected complete water shut off and wipe of necessity be a splendid showing on production test but fail to exhaust its water content below twenty per cent. There is no doubt being expressed as to the final outcome of the well. Drilling by the Shell company on the Reyes lease resulted last week in another nice well Beey Shell No. 3A completed at 411 feet went on production at 115 barrel well. Reyes No. 10 at 398 made a production test of 890 barrels in a few hours and looks like the Shell's next big producer. The Shell Reyes lease is proving out very valuable property. Union All Company success Dominguez continues unbroken The week just closed. Helma No. 6 is the well, it was completed at 4251 feet and is producing $2 gravity clean oil. All Southern California oil interests has its eyes riveted on the Sentinel Oil Company's brown well at the present time the most important wildcat well in the Los Angeles Basin. The famous Serinel well is believe dto be able proaching the 4400 mark and aside from a few gas showing there has been nothing to get excited about. In the central southwest section of the field the Union Oil Company has assured the successful outcome of the Trust property with No. I down 4551 feet and showing the sand that made the Potter well famous. There seem to be little doubt about the Union's Trust property at this time. A little further north and west of the Rosecrans field the Sandberg Petroleum has discontinued operations and at 560 has nothing to show. The St. Helens Petroleum Company's Crowell well has passed 4350 without finding anything promising. The Behr Oil Company formerly an operator at Huntington Beach and Santa Fe Springs operator entered the Rosecrans district this week. The Behr Oil Nichols Gr&M Oil Operators Fresno Un. Pac. Out on the east line of the Rosecrans field the Sandberg Petroleum has discontinued operations and at 560 has nothing to show. The St. Helens Petroleum Company's Crowell well has passed 4350 without finding anything promising. The Behr Oil Company formularly an operator at Huntington Beach and Santa Fe Springs operator entered the Rosecrans district this week. The Behr Oil Company has a drilling sight adjoining the Star Petroleum Co.'s northwest line and is making preparations to start drilling soon. The Delaney-Camp Oil Compapany a refining and producing company of the Long Beach field has offered a proposition and a very maritorious one where by the Bartholomae Oil Corporation will be able to stage a complete recovery. The Delaney-Camp organization offers to take over well No. 3 now at 4300, drill it to 4750 feet and put it on production for 60 per cent of the output until the labor costs are taken care of, there after the developers are to have 50 per cent of the well's outcome through the natural life of the producer. The Bartholomae had the misfortune to meet with serious water conditions in its deep well No. 4 drilled to 5050 feet from which it was unable financially to recover. The plan of the Delaney-Camp Oil Company has met with the approval of the stockholders and creditors of the company and the work will start in a few days. Santa Fe Springs deep test well, the Slusher well of the Shell Company has proven something of a disappointment. The well was drilled to 6100 feet and a string of 6 1-4 and 5 3-16ths set to a make a production test. The test revealed the inability to ball the water below a 100 feet of the top an indication that points to more checking up and a general tracing out of the menacing water sands. With the consideration to abandon the Standard Oil's Orange Co. Title well at 5510 all home for a western extension of the Huntington Beach field vanishes. The well is a duster.
