MAKE WEEK-END RUN TO FRISCO
Without making it a run for economy or against time, K. M. Brown, in his Essex sedan, drove to Berkeley over the Ridge route in 11½ hours and back home over the coast route in 14 hours elapsed time Saturday and Sunday, Robt. R. Schilling accompanied the manager of the Western Auto Supply Co.'s store, and the trip was merely for pleasure.
Manager George W. Smith of H. R. Grove & Co., local Essex and Hudson agency, points with some pride to Brown as one of many Essex and Hudson "outside salesmen," as he calls owner boosters.
Brown used only two quarts of oil in the 1200 miles and averaged 17 miles or better to the gallon of gasoline going. Five detours, adding 35 miles to the total, were encountered on the return.
Brown is pleased with the behavior of the Western Giant balloon tires, 33 by 4.95 on 33 by 4 rims, which not only held up mighty well, but added to the comfort and safety of the trip.
The two men started at 11 p.m. Saturday, stopping off at Bakerfield from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. Sunday. Returning at 11 p.m. Monday, they drove from Berkeley to Santa Cruz and down the Coast Route, where the detours were encountered.
Mr. and Mrs. Luther Lindaur, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Lindaur, and Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Hilbert were in Los Angeles Monday. The men in the party attended the ball game and the ladies the theater in the afternoon. They met later for dinner.
Go North to Wedding
Mrs. Herbert H. Oelke left yesterday for San Francisco to remain ten days. She was accompanied by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Gregg. They will attend the wedding of Mr. Gregg's niece. Later they will attend the state fair in Sacramento.
Fullerton Briefs
C. B. Hutchinson of the So. Cal. Edison Co., and Dr. John B. Menges leave tonight for Santa Cruz to attend the state Rotary convention there tomorrow and Saturday. They are the Fullerton delegates.
MaJ. E. J. Marks has been instructed to report to San Francisco for Defense Day duties. He will leave tomorrow.
POLICE RAID WILD FILM
PARTY AND ARREST 20
(Continued from Page One) the authorities were summoned on complaint of neighbors.
The neighbors asserted so much noise was being made they could not sleep.
Sherrill, charged with possession of liquor, was arrested. None of the actors had been released from jail early to day but all were arranging for release on bonds.
This is the second sensational raid in Laurel Canyon this week, Lloyd Hamilton, film comedian, having been taken by officers Tuesday and held on charges of suspicion of drunkenness.
Hamilton's party had been in progress three days when it was interrupted, police said. The entertainment stopped by the officers this morning had been going on all night, Sherrill's neighbors complained.

An eminent literary critic who was present when the picture of Wm. J. Locke's famous story, "The Beloved Vagabond" was reviewed, said that he has never before seen a novel transferred to the screen with such fidelity to the author's original conception as this master photoplay. It will be seen at the United Theater Friday and Saturday.
Not one bit of the spirit and charm of Mr. Locke's widely read romance is lost. In fact, the story rather gains by being told in visible form. The novelist's medium of expression is more limited than

REPORT CAR THEFT
A 1917 model Buick belonging to Wray Wheeler, 912 E. Center-st., was stolen last night about 11 o'clock from in front of the Jackson Clothing Store on West Center-st., according to a report to local police. The car was said not to be in good shape. The front cushion has a piece of white canvas on it. One new Brunswick tire was on the front, and the balance were horse-shoe brand tires.
PREMIER MACDONALD URGES DISARMAMENT CONFERENCE
(Continued from Page One) is understandable why the league is not attractive to Russia.
"I am here today as a pledge that my country will use every means within its power to widen the influence and increase the authority of the league."
Reopening the question of war guilt, Premier MacDonald said:
"What constitutes the definition of aggression? The responsibility of defining aggression belongs to historians fifty years after the war. It never belongs to politicians during a war. Arbitration is the only solution. Are you willing to arbitrate, willing to explain, are you afraid of the world?"
"The British favor arbitration. We can see nothing else for the world. If we cannot agree to arbitrate, let us return to pacts and military alliances; let us prepare for the next war. But we must define the obligations of na-
