MOVIE FESTIVAL ATTRACTS MANY
Is Los Angeles destined to be a carnival city, with an annual festival attracting tourists from all over the world?
Everything points in that direction.
For the huge committees, representing 200 theaters, five big theatre chains, 40 studios, 50 releasing companies and hundreds of producers stars, managers and other organizations allied with the motion picture industry, has pulled resources, genius and facilities to make the Greater Movie Section Ball tonight not only the most brilliant social event of its kind.
FAMOUS DICKENS STORY IN PICTURES
What promises to be an unquestionably charming picture treat will be the presentation here for the first time of the big production, "David Copperfield," which was adapted from the celebrated and world-loved novel of that title by Charles Dickens. This exceptional feature comes to the United beginning Friday.
In the making of "David Copperfield" as a picture the adherence to the original Dickens story of love, laughter and tears is as close as it can possibly be. None of the wondrous charm of the charters that were made famous through the narration of "David Copperfield" has been lost and the romance has been illustrated.

Everything points in that direction.
For the huge committee, representing 200 theatres, five big theatre chains, 40 studios, 50 recording companies and hundreds of producers stars, managers and other organizers allied with the motion picture industry, has pulled resources, genius and facilities to make the Greater Movie Season Ball tonight not only the most brilliant social event of its kind ever staged in this country, but a huge financial success as well, as all the money derived from the bill will go towards defraying the expenses of the current season and will be the nucleus of a fund to be used in advertising Greater Movie Season as a gorgeous annual Los Angeles Festival, attracting hundreds of thousands of tourists from all over the world.
The plans are bewildering in the dazzling array of talent and features to be interplated between the dances. Five bands to play the music—and all of international reputation! A glorious fashion show, to be taken bodily from Cecil B. DeMille's forthecoming picture, "Feet of Clay," and to be staged by that director, with scores of stars as models, wearing a quarter of a million dollars worth of clothes! Actual motion picture scenes to be "shot" on the floor, with sets, specially erected by the world's greatest technical artist, to be directed by Warner Brothers' most gifted megaphe wielders, William Baudine and Phil Rosen, with stars galore participating.
And besides, it is planned to have a glittering grand march with 1,030 celebrities whose names are known the world over—and in the midst of it all a succession of pageants The like of which has never been behold.
"Make Los Angeles a Mecca for all the world" is the cry of the committee.
Truly, the ball to be held at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, tonight promises to be a never-to-be-forgotten event!

A strictly children's program will be shown consisting of "Daniel Boone," a story of one of the pioneers of America, a very funny Our Gang Comedy and an Aesop Fable.
The story of Boone's amazing career is full of incidents of bravery and courage, especially in his dealings with the Indians, who loved and feared him and stood in awe of him. One incident that awed the Indians and caused them to believe him a miracle worker, occurred one time when he was trapped by the fedmen in a dense woods and driven to the brink of a steep cliff. The Indians closed in a semi-circle desiring to take him alive. At the very last minute Boone jumped off the cliff, landing in a maple tree nearly 200 feet below, and escaped in safety. HOSPITAL EMPLOYES ENGAGED IN BATTLE
PALO ALTO, Aug. 27.—A wide variety of black eyes and broken noses was being nursed today by more than a dozen American and Filipino employees of the Veterans' base hospital here following a free-for-all fight, said by Major Borden, in charge of the hospital, to have followed an alleged attempt of a Filipino to make an engagement with the wife of one of the white employees.
Knives were reported to have been wielded during the short 10-minute encounter which stopped almost as soon as it began and before guards could reach the scene and separate the combatants.
