WESTERN COACHES TRAIN TOO HARD?
LOS ANGELES, Aug. 7.—Do football coaches on the Pacific coast make the mistake of training their men too hard?
Knute Rochne, famous coach of Notre Dame university, says they do.
Rockne believes that midway in the season most of the vitality of coast teams has been rapped due to overwork in a moderate climate.
"I think a majority of Pacific coast coaches make the mistake of overworking their men," said Rockne while here instructing at the University of So. Calif summer school.
"Just a little work should put men or edge out here. In the east players may be worked very hard during the fall as the weather is cool but out here it is different."
Rockne expressed great surprise when told that it was on record that California players had lost as much as eight pounds in a single game of football.
He said this bore out his theory that men are worked too hard out here.
The Catholic coach is anxious to bring his charges west for a game in 1925 or 1926.
Rockne would like to meet either University of Southern California, California or Stanford.
A win over Stanford, where "Pop" Warner, dean of American football mentors is now located, would be a big feather in Reekne's cap and he knows it.
A Notre Dame-Stanford game is certainly in the making and probably will be signed for 1938.
University of Southern California, it is understood, has tentatively been promised a game with Notre Dame next year.

FLYS DISAPPEAR WITH OLD DOBBIN
SACRAMENTO, Aug. 7—Due to universal use of automobiles and the consequent disappearance of horses, especially within cities, the fly control problem has been greatly simplified and conditions are now favorable to a war of extermination against flies, the State Board of Health says in a bulletin directed to local health authorities today.
"The trotter, the delivery and the truck horse are things of the past," the bulletin sets forth, "and with the horse have gone the fly-breeding places most numerous and difficult to control."
"The presence of large numbers of flies in the business sections of a municipality today constitutes a reflection on local health administration," the board concludes.
