PAGE TWO SOCIETY PUPILS SURPRISE TEACHER ON EVE OF DEPARTURE COMPLIMENTING Miss Stella Wittmer, who was their beloved teacher from last September to January in Sixth A grade, a group of young folk went to her home, 115 N West-st. last evening for a surprise. Miss Wittmer will teach the coming year at Scotia and will have Friday for her new location. This group of young folk have given their teacher a party each month, which attests her popularity with them. After talking over vacation plans and "school talk" ice cream end cake was served, after which they departed for their respective home. Various games were included in the program of the afternoon. Guests were Margaret Griggs, Dorothy Ingram, Alberta Vall, Marcella Marshall, Edna Franzen, Muriel Wagner, Camille Hall, Lewis Breminer, Vincent Hurte, Lasson Pomeroy, Orin Shoemaker, Robert Schilling, Herman Franz, Donald Bigelow. Visiting Club at Pool That the municipal pool is a big drawing card was again evidenced on a recent evening when a gallery of maidens from the Orange Business and Professional Women's club invaded this city and went to the plunge for a swim. After the swim the girls had dinner on the picnic grounds. The party was a farewell gathering for Miss Lelah Carleon who is a bride-elect. Kept Secret A Month The many friends of Mrs. Lola Neff of the Leona Beauty Parler are hearing with interest the news Two Teas Each Month Python Sisters met in a busy season. Last evening in their club rooms. They have decided to hold silver teas twice each month until the bazaar, set for early fall. The next social will be next Thursday at the home of Mrs. Maule Eauenger, 115 B Wilhelmine-er with an all day meeting and pot luck dinner. Those who find they cannot be present all day are asked to come in the afternoon. Mrs. James Kelsey will be assistant hostess. The committee for this month is Mrs. Mary Hatfield, chairman; Mrs. Mary Fordye and Mrs. Ada Newton. The committee plans give very fine entertainment features for the coming month. There are good attendance despite the many vacation outings. Whist Club Meeting Mrs. Ed Marion very delightfully entertained the members of the Wednesday afternoon Whist club at her home on the Garden Grove-rd yesterday afternoon. Prize winners for the games were Mrs. Wade Quarton, first; Mrs. Max Nebelung, second; Mrs. R.H. Seals, third. After the games an hour was passed in conversation and dainty refreshments were served. Mrs. W. H. Houts, Mrs. Estelle Johnson and Mrs. J. M. Casey assisted as substitutes. Grads Honor Classmate As a farewell courtesy for Orville Redden who leaves soon for Davis Agricultural college, Misses Helen and Hazel Manter entertained a coterie of friends at dinner and later with a theater party. Attractive place cards designated covers for the honoree, Orville Redden, Fred Amabry, Donald Hall and the Misses Velma Curl, Orange, June Burchert and Misses Helen and Hazel Manter. FRESH AIR FUND GROWS THROUGH CONCERT HERE A cast of all stars presented by brilliant program of various numbers in the Fairyland there last evening, in a benefit fund of the Orange-co Open Air Camp children. Several children participated including Lennie Trener, child orator; Billie Sumner who gave a salute to the flag and sang "America the Beautiful." Jose Sanchez, who needs no introduction to Orange-co music lovers, delighted the audience with his two numbers. Sanchez has wonderfully clear voice that he thrilled countless audiences. Mr Carl Seemans, his companion at teacher, accompanied him and played a piano selection. Mrs. J. J. Farley, one of Fullton's stars, and a member of the cast of the Mission Play, gave selections that were received with delight. Anheim was well represented by Miss Frieda Lumington who gave two solos. She was accompanied by Dean A.G. H.Bode. Miss Dory Winterts at her best whitening golos and received heartily applauded. She was accompanied by her sister Florence. A number that pleased the kicks was the dance by little Don Denton. Mrs. Estell Walker, who comes from Richfield, gave a beautiful lyric soprano solo. Several readings were given in Garden Grove and Brea entertainers. Mrs. C.C.Viol-t gave a short talk on the activities of the open air camp and the need for mono Rev. Frank Dowling introduce the artists. "The Trials of a Hostess" was presented by the Dramatic Tion of the Placenta Round Tab club and was merry comedy three acts. The cast included Meadames Herbert Sullivan, Frine Cline, J.Bender, C.M.Farland, P.Smith,Munroe,A.Pierrotti,L.McPadden and Miss Nina M.Lellan. Kept Secret A Month The many friends of Mrs. Lola Neff of the Leona Beauty Parler are hearing with interest the news of her marriage to Mr. Perry Jones, which occurred at Corona July 2. The couple slipped away from their many friends, completely "putting one over" on them. The bride has continued her duties in Anaheim and he in Santa Ana, where he has purchased a ballroom and pool hall, with their secret locked safely in their hearts. Mrs. Jones has been making her home with her mother, Mrs. Anna Beard. Mrs. Jones is a member of the Business and Professional Women's club and paid the usual fine for wearing a diamond. The Sarita Ana Tent will furnish the luncheon. A program of entertaining numbers will be given. MAJ. ARNOLD GOES TO CAPITAL SAN DIEGO, Aug. 7. After commanding Rockwell Field since October, 1922, and considered the dean of American military aviators, Major H. H. Arnold will be relieved in a few weeks as commander here and assigned to duty in Washington, it was learned today. He will be succeeded temporarily by Major Shepler Fitzgerald. Local News Mr. and Mrs. Harold Larwen of Pasadena were guests of friends and relatives today. Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Hayling are passing the week at Anaheim Landing. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Elecholz are entertaining Mr. and Mrs. Austin Gates of Filmore for several days. Mr. and Mrs. N. M. Durkee have returned from a trip to Yucatina. New patients at the local sanitarium include: Mrs. Martin H. Doughton, Caniden, N. J., and William Landwehr, Redondo Beach. Mrs. Edward Bigelow passed the day in Los Angeles. Mrs. A. C. Berry has returned from an outing in Los Angeles. Miss Ruth Chamberlain has gone to Los Angeles where she has accepted a position with the So.Calif. Music Co. A. C. YORBA LINDA, Aug. 7.-Mrs. Ward Holland and family were Whittier visitors on Sunday. Miss Marjorie remained for a week's visit with relatives. Mr. J. L. Gelasinger of Huntington Park was a business visitor here on Monday. Mrs. W. G. Cannon, Keith Carrion, Mrs. Gale and daughter Olive and Mrs. Mabel Nelso spent Sunday at the beach. Mr. M. Vernon and Miss Maura Vernon entertained old friends from Kansas on Sunday. Mr. Roy Shook and W. M. Leo better had a narrow escape from injury a few days ago in a collision which occurred on Lake View Ave. Both cars were conspired badly damaged. The program committee of the Woman's Club held an interesting meeting at the home of Mr. Frank Rospaw on Monday after noon. Much work was done to complete the new year book and it will soon be ready for the printer. The annual bazaar was discussed and the ladies plan to make this year's affair much bigger and better than formerly which is promising a great deal.The first club meeting of the year will be held on the evening of September ninth and will be Harvest Festival.Much interest is being shown by all members in the work for next year. Mrs. Newton Neiswander of Yorba Linda boulevard who underwent a serious operation at Anaheim some time ago, is able to be at home now and is improving rapidly. Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Collins and sons joined friends from Anaheim and enjoyed a picnic supper in Orange County Park on Tuesday evening. Clifford Allee is visiting his parents at Cantil, Kern Co. Mr. J. H. It was announced today, plans having been perfected by the local Retail Merchants' Association to conduct a model barber and beauty shop where "free bobs" will be offered. As a feature of their fashion show the local merchants plan to stage "a parade of bobbed hair" depicting the evolution of the bob and tracing its effect on style in dress. MORE BABIES THIS YEAR THAN LAST It isn't the stork's fault if Annelheim's population isn't increasing. During the month of July 15 girls were brought on the scene in the city and 17 boys, compared with 11 girls and 18 boys in July of last year. The total for the 7 months also, was 203 against 190 in 1923. The total number of births for the seven months in and about the city was 229, which also is an improvement over the corresponding period of last year. Births outside the figure are negligible for a single month, amounting in July to only five, but totaled 26 for the seven months. BUBBLES BLOWN AT SOAP LAKE BURNET LOS ANGELES, Aug. 7—Dward Cookingham of Huntington Beach, is made defendant in a heart balm suit on file in Santa Ana today by Miss Mary Lantry of Los Angeles, who seeks $311,000 damages. Miss Lantry, who alleged Cookingham attacked her and later failed to keep a promise to marry her, said she met the telephone capitalist at Lewiston, Idaho, and became engaged to him in Soap Lake, Wash., in July, 1922. On May 15, 1923, Miss Lantry says she learned Cookingham was already married. We can't expect to supply children with candy between meals and a proper diet at meals.
