Franklin Conquers Yellowstone Trail Six hundred and ninety-six miles over the worst part of the Yellowstone Trail, through mountainous country, at times having to "feel" his way through the heavy smoke from raging forest fires, in 22 hours and 7 minutes elapsed time, is a record recently established by Ralph Fournier, of Howard Pierce, Inc., Franklin dealer at Butte, Mont., with a new high-powered Franklin Demi-Sedan. Completion of this round trip within a twenty-four hour period is a feat that has often been attempted but never accomplished by any single car and driver; it is said. Fournier's actual running time was 20 hours and 12½ minutes. He lost forty minutes on account of heavy smoke. At the close of the run, the car was inspected by observers, and with the exception of inconsequential items requiring less than 15 minutes to adjust, the car was found to be mechanically perfect. This new car with power increase for all speeds ranging up to 49 per cent, a peak speed of 1700 to 2000 horsepower, to accelerate from 5 to 25 m.p.h. in 7.3 seconds, reduced friction by means of full oil pump pressure to the cylinder walls, the gascolator for removing water and dirt from fuel, etc., is an even more wonderful car than its predecessor. According to Bob White, of the Bob White Co., local distributors, the air cooled motor one of the classified rates NEW TODAY WANTED—Woman for general housework and to care for invalid. PIONEERS MADE NATION A POWER What is the most vital period in American history? There may be a division of opinion between the Revolution, the Civil War, the winning of the west, and so on, but certainly the last named has had a tremendous bearing upon the development of the American nation. Thus is the story of "The Covered Wagon," an epic of great wagon trains, which in '48 crossed the plains to Oregon from Westport-Landing, Mo. This story, new to motion pictures, was made by James Cruise for Paramount with a wealth of detail, great spectacular effects and unlimited effort. It will be eliminated rare to them. This new car with power increase for all speeds ranging up to 49 per cent, a peak speed of 1700 to 2000 horsepower, to accelerate from 5 to 25 m.p.h in 7.3 seconds, reduced friction by means of full oil pump pressure to the cylinder walls, the gascolator for removing water and dirt from fuel, etc., is an even more wonderful car than its predecessor. According to Bob White, of the Bob White Co., local distributors, the air cooled motor one of these days will be the only type used. The sharp reduction in power due to warm motors is unnecessary, and so is the extra-vagance of paying for gasoline and oil to carry many pounds of water. NAUGHTY "GOINGS-ON" MUST STOP CHICAGO, Aug. 4.—Grim war was declared today by Chief of Police Collins against "phantasmia petting parties" and bathing suits too near au naturale which today are making the 30 miles of beaches in and about Chicago "jazzier than the jazziest that could be seen at Deauville." North and south shore residents complained of "petting parties in broad daylight that are beyond comprehension." Chief Collins therefore today ordered every policewoman to conduct her activities to patrolling the beaches the rest of the week. 2% CUT In Interest Rate $1,301.20 pays out $1,000.00 loan in 57 months —net interest $301.20 or 6.35% on amount of loan; shorter time figures lower rate.
