AVIATORS START
ACROSS ATLANTIC
KIRKWALL, Scotland, July 30—The U.S. round-the-world aviators, led by Lieut. Lowell Smith, arrived at Houghton Bay at a clock this afternoon, completing the journey from Brough, England, in five hours and 35 minutes.
The coast line distance between the two points is 670 miles, but the airmen took a roundabout course, owing to murky weather.
BROUGH, England, July 30—Having travelled approximately three-fourths of the way around the world in their historic flight, the U.S. Army filters, headed by Lieut. Lowell M. Smith, joined their faces toward home today.
The six intrepid American aviators, travelling in three machines left, Brough at 10:25 a.m. for Kirkwall in the Orkney Islands, off Scotland.
The weather was good and the airmen expected to reach the island port in the afternoon.
After rising, the airmen encountered mist which compelled them to take the longest route to Kirkwall. It was estimated here that it would require four or five hours for the filers to reach Kirkwall.
We will try to keep from rising to such a height that the shadow will be invisible," said Lieut. Smith. "That is a better plan than trying to follow a map. We know that the Scottish coast is noted for its nautical winds and we will not have much time to study maps on the way."
The distance from Brough to Kirkwall is 570 miles. The Americans planned to float their machine at 8 o'clock leaving at 7 o'clock for the Orkneys but weather conditions and a balky motor interfered.
Lieut. Smith said that he and his companions would remain at Kirkwall until the guardian destroyers reported weather conditions favorable for flying between Scotland and Iceland.

THOT IDENTIFIED
DENVER, July 30.—The "mystery woman" found unconscious from gas poisoning in a luxurious apartment on Capitol Hill yesterday was partially identified today as Mrs. Bromley, said to be a sister of Mrs. Bromley.
The woman was also known as Mrs. G. L. Cooper and Mrs. Gertrude L. Ramsey.
According to police, a man and a 16-year-old boy, believed to be the woman's son, were seen to leave the apartment just before the woman was found. She is in a dying condition at the Rocky Mountain hospital.
Whether the woman attempted suicide has not yet been determined by police.
