MISS WILLS WINS WITH FINE EARTH

French Woman Tennis Champion (Copyright 1924 by International News Service)
LONDON, July 3 — Miss Wills, the American star, pledged in her match against Mrs. P. Satterthwaite that the accusation of inaccuracy made against after her defeat by Mrs. P. Covell and Miss Kathleen Mohr in the international match for night ago, however found fact at that time, are no longer true.
Mrs. Satterthwaite tried hardest but nothing seemed to turb Miss Wills. She moved around the court demurely by prim little quakeress at a ring. She was never flurried never anxious.
Miss Wills patiently put the back at Mrs. Satterthwaite, ing it easier because Mrs. Satterthwaite kept pegging away California girl's back hand, in fact, is her stronger and farther side.
When Miss Wills came to the net it generally finished rally. When the game was Miss Wills won.
The American has a qualifying it of dropping the ball behind gently, as if saying:
I have done with you for present; thank you very much going over the net so nicely.
I think I liked Miss Will ter without the eye shade she often wears, a habit she acco in California, where the very strong and bright.
I was not thrilled by the which was all onesided, but pleased to see Miss Wills make good. I look for a great when the American meets McKane.
WILLIAMS LOSES NET SEMI-FINAL
WIMBLEDON, England,
As the campaign settles down in the home stretch, his managers declared that LaPollette would speak in the larger cities of the nation, going straight into the heart of the sections which political observers believe ordinarily would swing into the Republican or Democratic line.
His leaders here confidently predict that if the Democrats name a conservative in New York, LaPollette will be able to capture Pennsylvania and some of the so-called harder states along the Mason and Dixon line.
LaPollette managers, headed by R-presentative John M. Nolson, Republican of Wisconsin, insurgent leader in the house, claim as already "in" practically all states west of the Mississippi river. Only California they hold to be doubtful.
Walter Thomas Mills of the Farmer-Labor party of California, however, predicted the state would go to LaPollette in November. This he thought, would be possible through and expected announcement by Senator Hiram Johnson, Republican of California, that the LaPollette candidacy would be acceptable to him.
"There are thousands in California who look to Senator Johnson for leadership and believe that he will support LaPollette rather than Coolidge," Mills said.
Help also is expected from such Democrats in the senate as Dill of Washington and Wheeler of Montana, whom LaPollette supported in their campaigns.
The enthusiasm for LaPollette here is almost unbounded. The leaders of the conference, which has only two main things to do and see LaPollette and adopt a platform which he will draft, are past the stage of predicting that the Wisconsin senator will merely throw the presidential election into the house.
A leader can't be found here who won't say that LaPollette has more than an even chance to win and that he will carry into office with him enough progressives to tie the hands of both parties in congress.

SARGUM PROUTINGS
The old-time baseball players led by Dad Meek and Cap Dillon tangled in a real old time game at the Householder benefit. The final score was nine to ten in favor of Dillon's team after ten innings of play. The old time stars have not forgotten their stuff and some can still whale the ball. Dugan, who boasts of 61-mile stones, was the real batting hero of the day, having four nice hits to his credit. Dugan was a star 30 years ago.
Dillon made up his crew from the following: Walter Carlisle Rube Ellis, Cactus Cravath, Tillea Shafer, Cap Dillon, George Wheeler, Jimmy Toman, Jess Orandoreff Mangerina, Jones, Hall, Tozler, Parrot, Knell and Sam Dugan.
Dad Meek's line-up: Pete Daley, Kid Mohler, Stovall, Sam Crawford, Kruger, Goodman, La Lethice, Bentals, Grande, Lane, Stewart, West, Carl Sawyer, Spec Harkness and Bill Cornett. Dad used more modern players than did Cap so the victory of the old timers was all the most popular. About $2,000 was turned over to Eddie Householder and family. Eddie was a star and a very popular player with the Angels when the Angels were just sprouting wings.

LADY GAY TAKES CHALLENGE CUP
SAN FRANCISCO, July 3 — Arthur Rousseau's champion R Boat, Lady Gay, defeated Ven Weston's Los Angeles yacht, Debra, by the wide margin of six minutes, 19 seconds today before a large crowd over the 14 mile triangular course in the bay, thereby returning to this city the perpetual challenge cup at present held by the California Yacht Club of the southern city.
The winning time was two hours, 21 minutes and 9 seconds.
The race, which was preliminary to the commencement of the annual championship regatta of the Pacific inter-club Yacht Assn., provided thrills galore for the spectators, particularly at one stage of the run, when the Debra, struck by a heavy wind, gingered over. She quickly righted herself however.
The Lady Gay got a seven second jump on the Los Angeles entry due to the good handling of houseau and at the Presidio shoals. It by 27 seconds.
The Debra gained 12 seconds at the Goat Island shoals, and the race was a top and tuck affair during the earlier part of the course until the craft began to beat their way toward the golden gate again on the next to last stretch when the Lady Gay pulled away.
The rousseau entry carried the flag of the Corinthian Yacht Club.

Under Red Killier he was not considered a fence buster tho he made many long drives for the Angels. The wrestling card to be put on at the Philharmonic Auditorium next Wednesday evening appears to be about the most promising staged in the Angel City for years. Stabilislaus Zbysbko, former world's champion, will be matching his stuff with Yussif Hussane, the Turk. Zbysbko is still a great man and will give the Turk much to think about. Hussane has made himself a hero with the angel fans by throwing everything in sight except Jimmy Londos, and Jimmy's victory over the Turk was regarded by most of those present as a sort of Duke.
Handsome Jimmy Londos will be on the card. He is to meet Maupa, the French wizard. Big Sonsa Kozak, the rough Armenian will try to mug up All Ben Ali in the opening match. If Hussane can't Stanislaws Zbyskо, and the Frenchman can't Maupa Jimmy Londos surely All Ben Ali can Sonsa Kozak which all means that there should be some action and many trick holds displayed during the evening.

Ever so often Bert has a good fight in his system and it was a good thing that he used this one up on Rockson instead of Shade. Dave Shade has been fighting long fights in the East and may not be at his best in the four-round game but it will take the Mexican's best to turn him back.

The Monte Carlo sequences show the famous Casino in reality and not from studio sets.
"Recoil" is a highly dramatic story with strongly individualized characters, splendid photographed. It concerns a wealthy American who marries a penniless American girl stranded in Deauville and who is deserted by her for another man. The big smashing scenes of the picture result from the man's attempt to make the woman and the man with whom she had fled live together for the rest of their lives.

ACTRESS FREED
When Mrs. H. W. Burland appeared yesterday afternoon on a charge of speeding over 50 miles an hour, Justice Landell frankly confessed that he didn't have the nerve to send a woman speeder to jail, especially such a young and pretty personage as the San Diego actress.
He smiled and fined her $40.
To prove that his heart was thoroughly melted Landell allowed her to return to San Diego and send the money to him. She made the trip to Santa Ana without any money, she admitted.
Judge John B. Cox, over whose courtland is presiding temporarily, is not so lenient as Landell and usually sands "50 miles" to jail to think it over. But Judge Cox is enjoying a vacation and the theater goers of San Diego still have their leading lady.
