WHEN AMERICA DECLARED HER FREEDOM 148 YEARS AGO
Above: "Signing the Declaration of Independence," by John Trumble; right, Independence Hall, Philadelphia.
The Fourth of July serves as a reminder of an art treasure of the United States considered by experts to be one of the most remarkable portrayals of an historic event ever made. It is "Signing of the Declaration of Independence," painted by John Trumble, who received $8,000 from congress for it.
John Hancock, president of the Continental congress, is shown seated at the table. Facing him are the committee who drafted the declaration. Left to right, they are: John Adams, Roger Sherman, Robert Livingston, Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin. Jefferson, who actually wrote the declaration, is depicted handing it to Hancock.
This historic scene took place in Independence Hall, Philadelphia, on July 4, 1776.

CRIPPLED KIDDIES
SHOW IS SUCCESS
In the Anaheim U. H. S. Friday night was given one of the most unique entertainments ever staged in this city. A number of patients of the Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital-School, one of whom belongs to a local family, staged the wittiest, cleverest and most laughable show that our people have been privileged to see and hear for a long time. The roars of laughter, repeated applause and, last but not least, the receipts from the sale of tickets all proved the audience was immensely pleased, wonderfully generous and highly appreciative of the efforts of the physically handicapped children.
The money received goes to the Children's Alumni Ass'n, an organization of the children's very own, to be used to further the education of these children along artistic and vocational lines, thereby developing means of providing a livelihood for themselves.
The children wish to thank Anaheim for their generous patronage and the encouragement they received from the packed auditorium. Especially do they wish to thank the Boy Scouts for selling tickets, candy, ushering and assisting in handling the children and their chairs. In fact, they did everything there was to be done, to help make this a success, for which "we thank you."
They further wish their gratitude conveyed to the Lions, who were so appreciative of Kenneth Green's effort to entertain them at their weekly luncheon.
Also, for the generous donations from the drug stores of Anaheim and from the ladies who furnish them with bon-bons and home-made candies, the sale of which netted them fine returns, to the men who furnished the banners for the truck in the afternoon.
They wish the Anaheim papers to know that they realize without publicity they could only have reached a very small majority of

They wish the Anaheim papers to know that they realize without publicity they could only have reached a very small majority of the people, and for the space, front page and all, they are most grateful.
Also thanks for the splendid announcement made by Rev. L. Myers at the large public gathering at the City Park June 25.
The committee in charge of this affair reports that almost every organization, religious, fraternal or otherwise, pledged support and returns prove they fulfilled their pledge, for which the children of the Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital-School feel greatly indebted.
The Anaheim Auxiliary of the Women's Orthopaedic Guild rendered valuable assistance, having for three years donated regularly to the institution; and the officers of the guild want Anaheim to know that without the efforts of M. E. Bever and his firm results could not have been so gratifying.
THE GOOD GREAT MAN
How seldom, friend, a good great man Inherits
Honor or wealth, with all his worth and pains!
It seems a story from the land of spirits
When any man obtains that which he merits,
Or any merit that which he obtains.

As can be plainly seen, it is a charmingly unrestrained and chic affair, especially suited to the needs of the sportswoman—also his active sister. For the design of this model, linen, gin or pomegranate could be used. The neck being with a round ear. Medium 36-inch reprint price.
