Lawn Party Friday
As the time for the lawn fete to be given Friday right by members of St. Michael's church on the beautiful lawn of Mrs. J. Helmsen home on South Claudina, approaches, program numbers are being added to make a highly entertaining list. The piano and musicians will be on the porch and the party on the lawn. A gypsy fortune teller (Mrs. Arnold Singleton) will be there to disclose a world of pleasing information about the 'dark and light men and ladies who are to cross the paths' of the seeker of information. Mrs. Hugo Schultz will have readings and Miss Josephine Durgam and Miss Frieda Lamsdon, soloes.
The dinner will be served at 6:30, and during the meal the orchestra composed of Rev. A. G. H. Bode, piano; Ernest Zitzman, violin; Miss Sara Mattis, second violin; F. Siegle, flute; J. E. Wallace, cello, and C. M. Durgan, viola, will render several pretty numbers.
Everyone, whether affiliated with the church or not, is cordially invited and promised a delightfully pleasant evening.
B. & P. Directors Meet
The resignation of Miss Dorcas Jacques was regrettably accepted at the Business and Professional Women's directors meeting held yesterday in La Palma cafeteria. Miss Jacques is a bride-elect and also has resigned her position as secretary to the city manager in the city hall. She will be succeeded by Miss Etta Williams.
The girls discussed several matters of the moment, one, the stunt which they will present at the Calvin in the very near future. They have a real live program to offer the public. Another was the evening meeting at Balboa tonight when they will enjoy dinner at Family Enjoy Steak Bake
A family gathering to honor Mr. and Mrs. Harry Kizler and children was held in Orange-co park last evening. A steak bake provided the filling for the inner man and the after hours were devoted to dancing in the pavilion to the strains of an orchestra which accompanied Scepter chapter, O. E. S. on their picnic also in the park.
The party included Mr. and Mrs. Harry Huiff and daughter, Aldene, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Granada and daughter, Phyllis, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Magathan, Mr. and Mrs. G. J. Schaeffler, Mrs. Lee Dickenson, Mrs. Reg Taylor, Miss Lydia Herbel, Miss Evelyn Magathan and the Misses Ida and Martha Schaeffler.
Biennial Picnic
One of the nice things coming as an aftermath of the biennial convention of women's clubs, was the meeting of members of the bureau of information in Linecón park yesterday over picnic luncheon. Many of the amusing as well as satisfactory occurrences of the duttes of the committee were related.
A very nice feature was presentation of a beautiful general federation pin to the chairman, Mrs. C. E. Hutchinson, which she accepted with only a few words but with deepest feeling. The chain of friendship formed by these more than half hundred ladies during execution of their pleasant duties through convention is very strong and will probably inspire many pleasant social meetings in time to come.

No remedy can cure all ailments of the human body, but an immense number of people suffer fromaches, pains and diseases symptoms when their real trouble is laid in the blood. It takes in your blood then you to get the nourishment out of your food. Without iron your food merely passes through you without doing you any good; you don't get the strength out of it. There is one universally known tonic that has helped thousands because it contains iron like the iron in fresh vegetables and like the iron in your blood.

Billy Whiskers
BY FRANCES TREGO MONTGOMERY
Billy went back up the stairs in order to see the Americans capture the Germans who were in the castle.
"We shall have to get out of here immediately or we will be surrounded and caught light rats in a trap!" Billy heard one say, and then he stalked to the door, opened it and ran plump into the arms of the American General!
"Hands up!" came the command and in a jiffy every one of the German staff was bound and marched in single file to the waiting automobiles, where they were loaded in and the Americans sped off with their prisoners. All went but the General himself, three of his staff, and six privates. They tarried to release Captain Strongheart, whom they expected to find locked in the tower room where he said he was confined in his note to the General.
But when they looked in that room he was gone.
"We are not late, but could those scoundrels have killed him before sunrise, the time they had set?" asked the General in alarm.
"Look carefully and see if by any chance he could have left a note been made and by whom they were made they did not know. They looked fresh, however, and there being goat tracks, they took it for granted they were those of Billy Whiskers and his master.
The General was too fat to squeeze through the narrow door, so he sent one of his staff to descend the secret stairs and see where they led.
"If you find any one or need help, blow this whistle," and the General handed him an extra shrill sounding one." Those stairs probably lead to some dungeon under the castle, or to an outlet in the grounds several hundred yards from here. I only hope you won't find our Captain in chains confined in a dungeon. If you are not back in 20 minutes, I shall send another man after you."
Down the secret stairs the officer went, while the remaining men listened to his receding footsteps until they could hear no more.
"I should like to have time to explore this old castle," said the General, "for it probably abounds in secret stairs, passages and so forth."
