BIG NEWS STAFF AT CONVENTION NEW YORK, June 21.—The greatest news gathering staff in the history of political conventions will write the news of the Democratic national convention for The Plain Dealer. International News Service which will cover the convention, for The Plain Dealer has been at work for months organizing its brilliant staff of reporters and special writers who will report every phase of the epochal meeting. Thousands of miles of special wires have been looped into one great system on which the news of the convention, written by the International News Service staff of some 40 men and women will be flashed instantly to The Plain Dealer. Scores of the fastest telegraphers in the country, who make International News Service the fastest news service in the world, will transmit the news of the convention in all directions over the great wife system. As quickly as the big events happen in Madison Square Garden, the convention hall, or in other meeting places of the political leaders in New York, the news will be flashed to The Plain Dealer. A large section of the working press stand on the floor of Madison Square Garden will be manned by International News Service writers and operators. Below the garden floor, in the section reserved for press workrooms, International News Service will have a large work-room, where stories of the convention will be written. A score of writers and telegraphers will be busy there almost every hour during the convention. In addition, International News Service will maintain special offices at the leading hotels, where the delegates will attend. TESTIFY BROOKS APPEARED DRUNK J. B. Brooks, charged with mahailaughter growing out of an accident two months ago in which Mrs. Stena Dunean of Montebelio was fatally hurt near El Toro, will make his next appearance in superior court next Monday. At the hearing Friday it was testified that Brooks' car had been going 65 miles an-hour and that the driver appeared drunk. The prosecution will try to show that a blood-stained bottle found beneath the car contained liquor. GET DEEDS FOR NORTH LEMON-ST All deeds but one for rights of way on property abutting on N. Lemon-st. extension have been obtained, preparatory to cutting the street thru to Orangethpe-ave., it was announced today, by Anaheim C. of C. directors. The C. of C. is disposed to put the project thru whether or not Pullerton succeeds in signing up owners north of Orangethpe-ave., and Supervisor W. M. Schumacher is willing to recommend the paving improvement. Ottlie Stechart, local florist, was voted a member. The board, while it took no action, is favorable to the request of Secretary V. D. Johnson of the Orange Community C. of C. for aid in the proposed Orange All Products Exposition. As likely as not the local body will put on an exhibit. Below the garden floor, in the section reserved for press workrooms, International News Service will have a large work-room, where stories of the convention will be written. A score of writers and telegraphers will be busy there almost every hour during the convention. In addition, International News Service will maintain special offices at the leading hotels, where the delegates will gather and caucus and make as much political history as on the convention floor. These will be at the Waldorf headquarters of the Democratic national committee, and at the Commodore hotel, where many of the big delegations are quartered: at the Pennsylvania, which will house more delegates than any other, at Madison Square Garden hotel, where the highly important committee on resolutions will hold its sessions. The regular staff of International News Service's main office, in downtown New York, will operate as usual. Miles of wires link up these offices with each other and with the main wires which go to every part of the country. Special telegraph and telephone wires make these scattered offices one big news-gathering work-room, making it possible to follow up developments on the big story in a few seconds. The work of organizing the International News Service staff and perfecting the many details for its operation was done under the personal direction of M. Koenigsberg, president, and George G. Shor, editor and manager. P. O. MEN TO RENEW MORE PAY EFFORT Renewed efforts to obtain advances for postoffice clerks, carriers and other employees will be made next December, at the next session of congress, and Congressman Phil D. Swing has promised his aid, according to local employees. There are 175 postoffice employees in Orange-co and 27 in Anaheim, of whom 25 would be affected. The advance sought amounts to $300 per annum and car expenses for rural letter carriers. The United National Ass'n of Postoffice Clerk and National Federation of Postal Employees are working together to obtain the increase. CALIF. HOTEL, FULLERTON E L. Lemke, San Diego; E. D.
