CELEBRATE NEW PLACENTIA PAVING According to Secy. Charles E. Lee of the Placentia C. of C., that enterprising community is going to hold a big mid-summer valencia orange festival, July 11 and 12. Placentia will have exhibits from her five large orange packing houses, booths attractively arranged with orange and lemon displays, a carnival, street dancing, music and a parachute leap from an aeroplane will be features which the committee is planning on. There will also be a carload of small oranges dumped in the public square so that visitors may partake of their fill at no cost to them. Orange will be put on sale by the lug, the box and also load a very attractive prices. The Placentia Mutual Orange, Placentia Orange Growers, J. H. Straight & Co., and A. H. Bradford & Co., with Randolph Marketing Co., are co-operating with the C. of C. in working out attractive booth designs and the furnishing of fruit. The Golden State Amusement Co., of Los Angeles will supply vaudeville, carnival features, etc., while the Kelso Aviation Co. of Garden Grove will be called on to furnish the aeroplane flights, the wing walking stunts and the parachute drop from a swiftly speeding machine. Darlevil Kohl will do the drop from the sky, Kohl holds a world’s record of 9800 feet. The aeroplane stunts will take place Saturday afternoon, July 12, over the town of Placentia at 2:30 o’clock. Every street but one in Placentia has been paved this year. The festival is in the nature of a celebration for the completing of the big $95,000.00 paving program, and the starting of the joint cities outfall sewer proposition, these two improvements having both been inaugurated since Placentia started her C. of C. less than six months ago with 93 members, having today 320 members, a recorder in the state hard to equal. A good band will be provided and the Kelso Aviation folks will take up any one who wants a GREER RETURNS TO WORK FOR NORMAND LOS ANGELES, June 20.—Horace Greer is going back to work for Mabel Normand. That Greer, acquitted late yesterday by a jury of ten women and two men of shooting Courtland Sylvester Dines out on ball today on a charge of possession of intoxicating liquors, will return as chauffeur to the film star, was reported here today. Greer, who attracted much attention because of his chivalrous refusal to testify in his own defense at the Dines trial because he said “it might hurt Miss Normand” today mysteriously obtained ball and was reported on his way to Hollywood to sign up with Miss Normand at his former job of driving her car. Greer’s attorneys said today that Miss Normand has promised to hire him back in the event he was freed after the Dines trial. Liberty for Greer lasted only a few minutes, for as he thanked members of the jury he was arrested on an old charge that liquor was found in his room a few days after Dines was shot. He told his attorneys the arrest made him “feel terribly” because he was going to work again for Miss Normand. He said he wanted to have a clean record when he got on the star’s payroll. BADLY BURNED IN FIRE AT HILT YREKA, June 20.—Mrs. G. S. A good band will be provided and the Kelso Aviation folks will take up any one who wants a plane ride for $3.00, two for $5.00. They will have six machines located on the field near Loftus a couple of miles north of Placentia. The merchants are also planning on a clever advertising stunt. The machines will fly over surrounding territory Friday morning dropping advertising literature. COLLISION AT SEA HALIFAX, N. FRENCH DEPUTIES CLASH ON FLOOR PARIS, June 20.—After a stormy session during which members clashed on the floor, the chamber of deputies gave the new Herrlott cabinet a vote of confidence early today. The vote stood: For the government 313; against the govern-224. This was the ministry's first test of strength. Herrlott sought the vote to make sure he had the support of the chamber when he goes to London tomorrow to confer with Premier Ramsay MacDonald upon reparations and the Ruhr issue. There were exciting scenes when Socialist and Communist deputies came to blows. While the fighting was in progress right bloo deputies remained in their seats cheering the fighters. President Painleve was compelled to suspend the session temporarily while the sergeant at arms separated the combatants.
