POWER SHORTAGE IN CAL. APPARENT
(The Orange Co Farm Bureau)
So Calif., particularly the part served by the So. Calif. Edison Co., is facing a 20% shortage in electric power at this time. It was learned at a meeting in Los Angeles last week.
This meeting was held before the Railroad Commission and the conditions of water and power shortage was brought out by testimony offered by the various power companies. It was stated upon testimony that the estimated shortage would amount to over 200,000 kilowatt hours and would last from June 1 until far in December. The power developed by run-off water is a thing of the past since these streams are going dry and it is necessary for the utilities to depend on their steam plants and storage reservoirs. The situation would not be serious but for the fact that these reservoirs did not fill up last year and there is only a limited supply of hydroelectric energy.
Interlocking systems between the power companies have been put into effect so that this power shortage will be spread over the entire state as much as possible, relieving the depression in any one place to the minimum. There is an effort to be made to place the peak loads of one section in the valley loads of another community and toward this end it was recommended that the Railroad Commission appoint a power supervisor who will have control of the use of power throughout the state.
Immediate power conservation is urgent on the part of all concerned. Sign lighting, display lighting and billboards will be eliminated as soon as possible and it was suggested that certain regulations may be placed on the street car service to conserve power.
Accidentally Kills Friend; Suicides
SAN FRANCISCO, June 19—The theory that the accidental shooting of a friend caused another man to suicide was advanced as a theory by the police today to account for the mysterious deaths of Joseph M. Peters and Fred Kohler, whose bodies were found in a lonely section of Bay View Park, close to the bay with a shotgun near by.
One man had been shot thru the heart while a portion of the other's head had been torn away by the discharge of the gun.
Police ascertained that the shotgun belonged to neither of the men altho relatives said it might have been borrowed.
possible and this is a dangerous and difficult thing to do," stated A. M. Stanley, secretary of the Orange Co Farm Bureau, today.
"We must have power to furnish water for the crops which are now growing, not only to complete this year's production but to set the luds for next year's fruit. About the only way we can conserve power is to pull the switches to prevent transformer loss, to be careful and not irrigate the roadways instead of our orchards, and possibly to refrain from flooding the lands for fall planting of cover crops."
"After the rains in the latter part of March we were assured by the Utilities and Railroad Commission that we would have plenty of power for agricultural purposes until after the first of October. Formers have been depending on this promise and we do not believe they should be handicapped at this time. But as power conservation was something to be expected after October 1 we have had committees appointed in the various farm centers thrustout the county whose duty it was to develop methods of conserving both water and power. A meeting of these committees will be held at the Farm Bureau office to discuss the present situation and we expect to see a new record for rotary drilling, the new record is being staged at Dominguez on the Gacena and Syudicate will. Drilling has reached 6700 feet, this is a little short of the Standard's work record deep well at Santa Fe. The Union Oil Co. it appears out to set a new record for rotary drilling, the new record is being staged at Dominguez on the Gacena and Syudicate will. Drilling has reached 6700 feet, this is a little short of the Standard's work record deep well at Santa Fe.
The Union Oil Co. it appears out to set a new record for rotary drilling, the new record is being staged at Dominguez on the Gacena and Syudicate will. Drilling has reached 6700 feet, this is a little short of the Standard's work record deep well at Santa Fe.
The production of the Dominguez field was ratified to 10,000 barrels this last week with the advent of the Shell Co.'s Reyes No. 2 a 1500 bbl well. Reyes No. 2 was completed at 4355 and made a 32 gravity product. Thus the structure on the west side of the field is dipping sharply in proven by the Shell Co.'s Helman No. 1 a well that had got almost 5200 feet before striking the oil sand. The Union on an off-set Wellman No. 3 struck the sand at 4200 feet, the wells are located 600 feet apart.
Interest in the eastward extension of the Dominguez field centers on the work of the United and Maryland Oil Co.'s. The Man land well is the most easterly foot now drilling. The Marland well is being drilled by the Bell-Little Drilling Co. an organization headed by two of the most practical men in the state. The United Oc Co. is drilling its own well and no 2250 is 1000 feet in advance on the Marland.
The General Petroleum Corp. with the closing down of operations on the Gardena property has cut down drilling operations to one well and it is understood will not do any more development work until the southwest section of the field warrants it. At 5000 Gardena No. 2 did not show any indications of oil.

Of the 50 or more wildcat wells drilling in So. Cal., the C. C. Stall well at Downey got the attention of the oil fraternity more than any other well in the field. The Stall well had never been given a serious thought until a few weeks ago showings of oil and gas were reported. The showings were investigated and were found to have some importance. At a depth of 4200 feet, the gas and oil colors were eloquent good. At 4267, another better and stronger showing caused a little excitement. At 4297 a showing of oil and gas was found that has reversed opinion on the outlook of the well and new operators are giving the showings some serious thought and study. The Downey well is known as a "scientifically" located well and should it prove an oil producer its locator C. F. Reber will be given recognition.

LAKE ARROWHEAD POPULAR RESORT
Lake Arrowhead is one of the most popular mountain resorts for week-end and vacation trips taken by Anaheim society folk, judging from the number of inquiries regarding routes, accommodations and recreation facilities received by the Mountain Lake club, in Arrowhead Woods, on the margin of the lake, which was formerly known as Little Bear Lake.
The resort is approximately 80 miles from this city in the mountains back of San Bernardino, an ideal distance for a week-end trip for the enjoyment of the beauties of nature nad enjoyment of other forms of recreation peculiar to the resort.
The lake may be reached in about three and a half hours' drive from Anaheim, to Fullerton, over the Brea canyon road to the Valley boulevard and east to Pomona and Ontario. Time may be saved by turning north at the latter city to the Foothill boulevard, which leads directly east to San Bernardino, where the mountain climbs begins.
Three distinct roads lead from San Berdoo to Lake Arrowhead, the shortest of which leads thru Waterman canyon. This road is sufficiently wide for two cars abreast and no controls are necessary.

Monarch well No. 1, of the Fulkerson syndicate, owned by San Diego theater men, was today in the pump at slightly over 100 barrels daily production. It was announced by Walter J. Fulkerson resident of the company.
The oil in the new well is similar to that in the first Fulkerson well put on production, being an unusual heavy asphaltic nature. Hot water is used in extracting it from the earth. Fulkerson said. A much higher price is secured for the asphaltic product than for ordinary "black gold" oil men admitted.
The Fulkerson company now has Monarch No. 1 and Newport No. 2 producing. Newport No. 1 which was brought in at 1700 feet of the boring of which much trouble was encountered and tools lost, will be abandoned. It was asserted. Fulkerson will begin the erection at once of two new derricks for wells near the present area. The wells will be drilled to 900 feet at least unless the price of crude advances, which will bring about a deopening. The Fulkerson company has eight acres leased and seeks more land.
