How heavily the property is encumbered George Varnum attorney for a group of important Anaheimers who put their money into the company could not say today. Anaheimers invested perhaps $750,000 in the enterprise, which in its extent was equal to the Keen Hat Stores, the well-known bakery scheng, Dixie Gas Co., and many other exploitation put together. According to Varnum, Stanley Chapman, son of C. C. Chapman of Fullerton, was a large investor. It was the alleged endorsement by C. C. Chapman which persuaded one Anaheim couple to put approximately $75,000 into it. Varnum today displayed a copy of a letter asking for proxies in preparation for last Thursday's AMERICAN LEGION ENTERTAINS LADIES meeting in Los Angeles, when an unsuccessful effort was made by the company to secure authorization to sell the company's assets. This letter contained a proxy blank which, contrary to State law provides that a proxy may always be revoked, made the stockholder deliver an irrevocable proxy. In answer to that Varnum sent out a proxy blank of his own, which enabled a stockholder to change his proxy, revoking any may have given to Alfred Ashby, secretary of the company.
