The neck is gathered to a straight ribbon in band which takes the place of a collar and is tied at one side. Bands of the satin finish the short sleeves, while a deep satin band lengthens the skirt. Medium size requires 2½ yards 36-inch figured and 2 yards 36-inch plain material.

HEART AND HOME PROBLEMS
OZARKTHOMPSON
LONESOME FOR MEN
Dear Mrs. Thompson: Do you really think there are any honest to goodness men these days? I am a girl of 25, blonde, blue eyes, and considered nice looking, always dress neatly and up to date, but not flashy or better than I can afford. I can cook and do all my own sewing as well as millinery which I learned as soon as I left school. I then secured a business education and now have a very good position and earn good wages. I love to dance, play the piano and enjoy out of door sports. I am the only girl in our family and was not permitted to run around when I was in my teens.
Now my girl friends are all married. I have a wonderful home and mother, but still I find myself lonesome to have company. I have met young men at dances who appealed to me, but as I am not a flatterer I do not seem to take with them. Do you think I ought to invite a young man to again. Let him go, and in the future be very careful not to act too free or to give the impression to observers that you are.

I want to tell you some of the things on my mind which make me miserable and let you judge whether it is my evil mind or if I have real cause for jealousy.

Of course there are real gentlemen left these days, many of them. The trouble with you is that you are not looking for goodness, but think too much about your own fine points and independent spirit. It is not necessary to flatter, but it is necessary to appreciate and treat a feeling of warmth which would encourage a man to like you. You would not like any man who was as indifferent to your charm as you try to be to the charms of the men you meet. It is correct to ask a young man to call, and it is also correct to invite him in when he has taken you home unless the hour is too late. In that case invite him to come to see you.
THANK YOU: If your friend was right and you were a bit too free on the boat, profit by this unpleasant experience, and be more reserved in future. Do not try to force yourself on her since she treats you so coldly, but find a new friend. I am sure that if you go half way you will have no difficulty in making a new girl friend.
After the unfortunate thing that happened on the boat, I doubt if there is any use trying to make the young man like you very good position and earn good wages. I love to dance, play the piano and enjoy out of door sports. I am the only girl in our family and was not permitted to run around when I was in my teens.

Do you think that when a young man takes a girl home from a dance or social that she should invite him in? I never did that either and I now find myself longing to go to dances, etc., with a gentleman, but it seems they all want a bobbed-haired girl, flighty and frighty, regardless of reputation, appearance or anything else, just so they make a fuss over them. PLEASING PLAY ON PROGRAM AT ORANGETHORPE
ONE of the finest programs ever given at the Orangethorpe school was presented to a large audience Friday evening when 10 young folk graduated. Much credit is due Mr. Charles M. French, principal, who so ably supervised the work. He was assisted by Miss Florence Cairns, Mrs. Ethel Lewis, and Mrs. Vangella Rainey, the other teachers.
The auditorium was beautifully decorated with a background of pepper boughes, fern and palm leaves. The front of the stage was banked with roses, carnations, gladiolus, hydrangeas and various other flowers.
The dainfulness of the girl graduates in their fluffy white dresses and the dignity of the boys of the class was impressive. The 10 young folks who had successfully completed the eighth grade work and are now ready for high school are the Misses Laura Johnson, Ida Kidd, Miriam Porter, Evelyn Thompson, Lilah Schute, Myra Ortis and Frank Del Giorgio, Wesley Dickenson and Adryce Hill.
The decorations lent a spring-like atmosphere which was in keeping with the operetta entitled "Midsummer Eve." Miss Lilah Schute played the role of queen. She was lead to the throne by six dainty little flower girls, Pearl and Mearl Pebloy, Mary Ellen Gordon, Wilma Collman, Celia Conrow and Gadya Spencer who were costumed in yellow and pink paper dresses and carried beautiful baskets of flowers. Rosser Williams and Hardin Covey were pages attending the queen. Ten intermediate boys very cleverly

CUPID CAPTURES ANOTHER FROM BANKERETTES
Miss Elsie Schellens, one of the June brides-elect was shown a pretty courteous last evening when Mrs. Lena Mac Nolan presided as hostess at a miscellaneous shower at the home of her sister, Mrs Robert Boney, 1110 W. Center-st.
The shower was under the guise of a regular Bankerette meeting and guests included present and ex-members.
The Boney home was very attractively decorated for the occasion in pink and white, many baskets of lovely flowers being used.
Games, catals and guessing were enjoyed and a jolly evening passed. When Miss Schellens opened her gifts there were many lovely articles in the collection.
Miss Schellens is one of Anaheim's own maidens, popular in both social and business counters and her marriage to Ernest Pyles. Long Beach is an anticipated social event of the future. She has been employed at the Anaheim National Bank for some time but will resign her position there this week.
Ice cream and cake were served by Mrs. Nolan, assisted by her sister, Mrs. Boney.
Out of town guests were Mrs. Ralph Glassard, Victoryville; Mrs. W. J Matter, Maywood; Mrs. H. E. Clemons, Walnut Park; Mrs. George Vermillion, Long Beach; Mesdames Lyttel Larsson, Kenneth Peek, C. B. Goodson, Bernard Dresser; Robert Boney; the Misses Ethel Harling, Grace Johnson; Madge Sanders, Stella Bastian; Lucille Bastian, Gladys Cottrell and the honoree, Miss Elsie
The decorations lent a spring-like atmosphere which was in keeping with the operetta entitled "Midummer Eve." Miss Lilah Schute played the role of queen. She was lead to the throne by six dainty little flower girls, Pearl and Mearl Pebble, Mary Ellen Gordon, Wilma Collman, Gila Conrow and Gadya Spencer who were costumed in yellow and pink paper dresses and carried beautiful baskets of flowers. Rosser Williams and Hardin Covey were pages attending the queen. Ten intermediate boys very cleverly played the part of little green elves.
The younger girls in a bewitching manner enacted the part of the Will-of-the-Wispe and gave a dance and song. Twelve intermediate girls were costumed to represent various flowers. They very ably executed a lengthy and difficult drill which infrequently is surpassed for beauty. Many thanks is due Mrs. Dan Williams who played the accompaniment.
After the operetta a pretty reading was given by Gladys Spencer; a piano solo by Henrietta Heamatra. The primary boys and girls costumed to represent the "Overall Boys and Sunbonnet Babies" very pleasingly presented a song and march. Mrs. Ethel Lewis sang two vocal selections in a very charming manner to which the audience leapt no little applause. Miss Laura Johnson gave the valedictory address after which Mr. J. McDuell, president of the school board, in a very efficient manner, presented diplomas to the graduates.
Final West Side PT. A.
A program especially for eighth grade mothers was presented yesterday by the West Side P.T. A., when George Hedstrom, of the high school faculty, gave a practical talk concerning children who are to enter high school next year. Although not all of the mothers of the association heard the talk, those who did gleaned much benefit from it.
Two piano solos by Miss Jessie Fallis and two solos by Mrs. A. L. Kalp with Mrs. Hitehcock at the piano, added enjoyment to the afternoon. An excellent report from the Pasadena P.T. A. convention was presented by Mrs. R. C. Irwin.
Election resulted in the choice of Mrs. A. Palm for president; Mrs. C. R. Harrison, vice president; Mrs. R. S. Irwin, secretary; Mrs. Chas Schweinfest, recording secretary; Mrs. Lonen, treasurer; Mrs. Bryant Drake, parliamentarian; and H. D. Adkins, historian.
The meeting adjourned for the summer and the autumn meeting date will depend upon the open-ended atmosphere which was in keeping with the operetta entitled "Midummer Eve."

This effect is repeated at the lower edge of the hip-band. One also adds the monogram as a final touch of elegance to blouses so simply and delightfully designed.
