MILEY AND KECK
GET PRODUCTION
By E. J. MUNGER
Production hodors for the Torrance field were shared equally by E. J. Miley and W. M. Keck.
Miley's Torrance wells have all come in big producers, but No. 6 stretched the record a little by starting off at 1145 barrels. The big well was completed at 3825 feet, is producing 21 gravity oil and today is the Torrance field's banner oil well. Miley's No. 5 completed at 3817 feet, a little deeper than No. 6, came in at 765 barrels and is making 21 gravity oil. The completion of the two Miley wells gives the Pacific Petroleum Corporation, of which E. J. Miley is president and general manager, the highest average well production of any organization in the Torrance field. Miley has completed six wells, and the six wells are averaging 725 barrels per well. The next highest well average is held by the Standard Oil Co. with 10 wells on the Joughin property averaging 365 barrels.
W. M. Keck, head of the Superior Oil Co., like all the early pioneers of the Torrance field had to do a little experimental test-well work before getting a line on the big production. The completion of Torrance No. 31 at 3846 feet resulted in a 1100-barrel well and shows that Keck has gotten a line on the big production and his work proves that he knows how to bring's good well in.
The Standard Oil Co.'s Felkner well one of the deepest northwest end test wells drilled in the Redondo section of the Torrance field is on production. Felkner No. 1 was drilled to 5176 feet and went on the beam doing 50 barrels of 14-gravity oil. The well while not a commercial producer reveals the fact that the northwest section of the field has oil but water.
WORLD WAR FILM
HERE TUES. WED.
Members of the American Legion are preparing to stage "Flashes of Action," the wonderful U.S. signal corps picture at the Fairyland theater Tuesday afternoon and evening and Wednesday evening. The picture will be preceded by an original prologue presented by 50 American Legion veterans.
That part of the picture showing U.S. destroyers guarding the transports on their journey to France is said to be of especial interest here. One scene shows a submarine attack and the throwing out of a smoke screen to hide the troop ships from the enemy, and the dropping of depth bombs which annihilated ones of the hidden terrors of the seas.
"Flashes of Action" is pronounced by those who have seen it to be even a greater picture than "Powder River." It is more exciting, in that closer pictures are taken of the action which was being photographed, and the film selected to make it up is better handled all the way through.
The picture shows almost exclusively the 91st and 40th divisions. The pictures were only recently released by the U.S. signal corps.
Among the incidents which attract particular attention are two which have been set in—one of Quentin Roosevelt, son of the former president, starting on a flight which terminated fatally for him a few minutes later, and another of Capt. Eddie Rickenbacker downing a German plane. The reel, in addition to the divisional scenes showing the California boys in action, are interesting to the people here, as every phase of modern warfare, from submarine activities, artillery firing, tanks lumbering across man's land, to air.

The Standard Oil Co.'s Felkner well one of the deepest northwest end test wells drilled in the Redondo section of the Torrance field is on production. Felkner No. 1 was drilled to 5176 feet and went on the beam doing 50 barrels of 14-gravity oil. The well while not a commercial producer reveals the fact that the northwest section of the field has oil, but water trouble makes it difficult and expensive to produce. On the Marble-Fee lease at well No. 14 the Standard brought in a 500-barrel well at a depth of 3675 feet that is producing 27-gravity oil. The Ellingwood well, at 3639 feet, proved a water well and the Standard is making preparations to resume drilling and carry the hole on down in search of a deep sand.
The Petroleum Securities Co., a Doheny organization, has completed its development program at Torrance with the completion of well No. 13. The last producer was drilled to 3770 feet and started off at 600 barrels. Doheny's organization has drilled and put on production 25 wells since the opening of the Torrance field and closes its development work with a total aggregate production of 10,000 barrels.

Develop the eastern section of the Torrance field rather extensively. The Pan-American has started drilling on the Hub property, well No. 2, down some 2500 feet. In addition to the Hub well, now drilling, locations for three other wells have been made, and two new rigs are being erected. The Pan-American has one producer in the field known as Lomita No. 1, a 200-barrel well.
The Joseph Berlinger well proved a little surprise in actually starting off on production. The Berlinger well was drilled in the center of the Lomita section of the field. It has no active producing wells around it, and oil men had doubts about the well even starting to produce. However, the well was completed at 3770 feet and is pumping about 90 barrels.
The White Star Oil & Refining Co.'s Empire Nolmade has a pumping production test of 65 barrels. Originally drilled to 3810 feet, the well developed bottom water and was plugged back to 3750 feet. Experiments are being made as to the most efficient place for the tubing, and the well is to get an early tryout on production with the tubing at 3400 feet. Experts do not figure that the well will do much better than a 100-barrels.
