Munger Thruout the present month the daily output of the Torrance-Redondo field has hovered around 58,000 barrels and it is thought that the peak of production has been reached. The idea is based on the condition of the field and the development now under way. Development work in the Lomita section of the field is over unless a deep sand is unearthed and then the small producers and sand wells will be put down. In the east and west sections of the field development is in the hands of the larger companies and will not be rushed any faster than lease and line well requirements are filled and complied with. The eastern section of the Torrance field continues to stage the big production as evidenced by the fact of the two big wells recently completed by E. J. Miley. Miley's Torrance No. 5, completed at 3877 feet, came in a 765-barrel well, and No. 6, completed at 3835 feet started off at 1100 barrels. Miley's success in the Torrance field has been nothing short of marvelous. An example of what the Redondo section of the Torrance field is good for may be gained from the recent completion of the Associated Oil Co. On the Watson property the Associated completed No. 4 at 3425 feet and got a 100-barrel well. The well is a low gravity producer, the output being 16 gravity. The Chanslor-Canfield Midway, the discoverer of the Torrance field, seems to have completed most of its gushers and now is developing line wells of a 100 and 200-barrel capacity as Kettler 16 and 15 were completed this past week. Both the Kettler producers were completed at depths in excess of 3800 feet and are producing 20 gravity oil. CIRCULATION OF LIBRARY JUMPS The librarian's report to the Fullerton library board shows a total circulation for the last four weeks of 7088, or a daily average of 295. This is an increase of 17 per cent over the circulation for the same period just year. Of the total circulation, 720 were current periodicals, 21 were clippings, 1691 were books of non-fiction and the rest were fiction. The most popular class of non-fiction for the month proved to be literature with a circulation of 333 volumes. This class comprises poetry, drama and essays. Books of poetry have been in greatest demand. Next to literature are the social subjects with a circulation from that department of 249 volumes. Useful arts come next with 184 volumes and travel books ran a close race, with 182 circulation. Books on scientific subjects were not found so dry as some seem to think for 163 volumes were taken out. History holds sixth place, with 144 volumes out and 139 biographies were read. Books dealing with the fine arts did not enjoy as much popularity as usual, having fallen from their usual proud position of second or third place to eighth place with a circulation of 110. This may be accounted for by the temporary lull in building as this section includes books on architecture and building plans. Fifty-two books on religion and religious education were loaned, eight on languages and 44 pamphlets on general subjects. Among the most called-for books of non-fiction are the following: Emily Post—Etiquette. Papini—Life of Christ. Wiggin—My Garden of Memory. Pupin—From Immigrant to Inventor. Robinson — Humanizing of FOR SALE—New three room garage, ocean front, $2800; beautiful lot. See owner this A. L. Lewis, Cypress and Glen St., Laguna Heights. WANTED—Lady or gentle experienced in general office with knowledge of bookkeeper and stenography for an emergency period. Address box 168 Poulton. HARRY D. RILEY SAYS: "After we sell we see" During the past two weeks have sold over 12 used cars of which were bought with demonstration and 4 the m were not even started on floor. One customer bought the phone. What could be more conclusive evidence that we do serve we sell than such confidence Our stock is complete. We fulfill the needs of the month ticular and our prices have materially reduced. See to drive them, compare them, we know you will buy from 1924 Studebaker Light 6 Tow WAS $1050 NOW 1923 Star Touring WAS $200 NOW 1923 Light 6 Stude Road WAS $975 NOW 1923 Chevrolet Touring WAS $450 NOW 1923 Chevrolet Coupe WAS $775 NOW 1923 Ford Coupe The Chansler-Canfield Midway, the discoverer of the Torrance field, seems to have completed most of its gushers and now is developing line wells of a 100 and 200-barrel capacity as Kettler 16 and 15 were completed this past week. Both the Kettler producers were completed at depths in excess of 3800 feet and are producing 20 gravity oil. The Torrance field's best west side producer was completed by the Fullerton Oil Co. on the Cotton-Fee lease. Cotton-Fee No. 1 at 5668 feet made a 700-barrel well that is producing 36 gravity oil. This is the best well the Fullerton Oil Co. has completed in the field and will go quite a way to offset the water wells and small producers of low gravity oil drilled in the Redondo section of the field. The Petroleum Securities Co. (Doheny) is bringing its development program at Torrance rapidly to a close. This past week saw three producers, ranging from 500 to 900 barrels, completed by the Petroleum Securities. The completion of the trio of wells leaves but one to be put on production and with the finishing of Torrance No. 13 the drilling operations of the Petroleum Securities Co. will shift from Torranco to the new Rosecrans field. CALLENDER WELL STARTS 25 HOLES The center of the petroleum development activity of the Los Angeles basin is now located in the two new and closely adjoining fields of Dominguez and Rosecrans. The discovery well, Calender No. 1 of the Union Oil Co. started about 25 drilling at Dominguez and the discovery well. Athena No. 1, another Union Oil product, has started an equal number in the Rosecrans area. Recent and new developments seem to point to the fact that the proven section of the Dominguez field is pretty well defined, and that the development work now under way in the hands of the Union Shell Cos. will be about all there will be done in the Dominguez district. Operations of the General Petroleum Corp., C.C. Julian, the Chase Oil Co. and the Union's Gardena deep test well seem to indicate that the field does not extend much further southwestward. The fact that the Shell Co.'s Hellman and Childs wells are getting rather deep and aside from the showing made by the Childs well the territory is not so very promising. The Julian Petroleum Co. has deemed it wise to discontinue operations on the Pico well, temporarily at least, and await field development justifying resumption of drilling. The Pico well has been hung up for several months with a difficult fishing job at 4$61 feet. The General Petroleum Corp.'s Austin well went to 5492 feet and set a string of 6 1-4 at 5460 feet. Some good oil showings were encountered but it is feared that water trouble may interfere with the well going on production and making a good showing. White No. 1, another General Petroleum deep test, has passed the 5100 mark without making much of a showing for an oil well. Metals have their vogue like this. Gold was the favorite until platinum suddenly came into fashion and everyone who owned a gold wedding ring had it done over a pale silver-gray. Platinum wedding rings are still perfectly correct, but presently the "little gold band," to which writers of romance so often refer, and which hasn't been gold these many seasons—will be silver. At least it looks that way now, with all the silver necklaces, bracelets and earrings that shine along Fifth ave. The necklace are close about the throat, of large round beads and look as though they might have come from Arizona where the Navajos wear them. But they are straight from Paris; and so are very large silver ball earrings that fall just beneath the hair instead of trailing on down to the shoulders. They seem very short among all the long, flapping earrings of New York, but this is the Paris idea and they make up for it in size. As large as marbles. Sad to say they are not for blondes, or for very few; but they are stunning with dark eyes and dusky hair, worn low over the ears. Bracelets are just gleaming silver bands, seemingly worn by the half-dogen, slipped along the forearm.
