DISCUSS AIRLINE HIGHWAY PLANS There will be no difficulty in arranging to have the course of the proposed new airline highway between Los Angeles and West Anaheim or Santa Ana changed so as to immediately adjoin the right-of-way of the Southern Pacific, instead of extending 400 or 500 feet to the north where it would cut thru hundreds of ranches. There is no legal obstacle, either, to assessments being levied so as to make abutting property owners on the south side of the railway pay their fair share of the cost. As a matter of fact, however, the counties are likely themselves to bear most of the burden. This was the answer today of Supervisor W. M. Schumacher to the statement that the big highway project would never be put across because of the two difficulties mentioned. Schumacher will go to Norwalk soon and sound out the chamber there and possibly at Downey to find out the sentiment of property owners. The supervisor is empowered to call the next meeting of committees representing the various communities. These meetings so far have been held at the rooms of the Norwalk C. of C. OPEN 2 MORE STORES Arthur C. Jones, president of the Piggly-Wiggy California Co., stated before leaving on a tour of inspection of northern Piggly-Wiggy units that two more stores would be opened in Orange-co. They will be at Orange and Santa Ana. STATE WILL SPEND $80,000 ON ROAD Approximately $80,000 will be spent by the state this summer in grading the coast highway from Balboa palisades to Boat Canyon, Laguna Beach, and it may gravel the highway from this point to Serra, on the San Diego highway, N. T. Edwards of Orange, member of the state highway commission, declared at Santa Ana today. Plans for the improvement have been forwarded to Sacramento Edwards said, adding that he expected the funds soon would be available for $2,000,000 allotted to the coast highway from a state bond lease. The work, however, would not be completed before late fall, no predicted. He thought bids would be let within three weeks for the work, which will afford a continuation of the paving and grading going on between Huntington Beach and Newport. Edwards was in Santa Ana before leaving with county and state highway officials and those of the Santa Fe Railway Co. for an inspection of the crossing of the railroad at Irvine. Under a plan being considered is an overhead or underground crossing. BUENA PARK WILL GET WATER SYSTEM County supervisors have called for bids to be opened June 17 on a hydro pneumatic water pressure pump for water works district No. 2 at Buena Park. CALIF. A war to wrest supremacy in film world from the Famous Piers-Lasky interests, is freely dictated now that the Metro, Cwyn, Louis B. Mayer and Co-politan organizations have united under Marcus Loew, making his powerful figure rivaled only Adolph Zukor of the Famous Piers combine. Loew is owner of huge string of theaters. He controlled Metro pictures for a time. There are more widows widowers in the United States. Don't Get Angry Folks! Don’t Get Angry Folks! If we don’t have enough of these specials to last all day. Center St. Anaheim, Calif. THE PLAIN DEALER, ANAHEIM, CALIF. N. Y. LIKES OUR ORANGES BEST The Bank of America, New York, finds our orange liked better than other fruit. The annual consumption of oranges in the city of New York is estimated at 381,627,500 pounds and is steadily increasing, with the orange already ranking as the favorite fruit of the metropolis according to a survey of the New York citrus fruit market by Chas. J. Junod, issued by the Bank of America. Since the consumption there of California oranges exceeds that of Florida oranges by 40 per cent, it may be concluded that the New Yorker liked California oranges better than any other fruit on earth. The growth of the metropolitan market for oranges is shown by the fact that in 1922 the receipts of oranges in New York were $8051 carloads, while in 1823 they were 12,133 carloads. The average price per box in 1922 was $2.47, which is only 5 cents higher than that in 1915. The steady growth of the metropolitan market for oranges is described by this writer partly to the growing popular appreciation of the importance of oranges in a healthful diet, but mostly to the great improvements which have been instituted by growers and shippers of the fruit. The survey says: "The change that has come can best be summed up as standardization. In the case of natural product, this is necessarily more difficult of attainment than with a manufactured article, but with most fruits a remarkably high degree of standardization has been reached thru proper care and pruning of trees, prompt collection and shipment of fruit, careful and impartial grading, better marketing methods, the use of suitable containers, the employment of refrigerator care at appropriate seasons, etc." In this way both the production and distribution of fruit has been placed on a more efficient basis. Consumers can buy with more assurance, and, tho price, of course, fluctuates with demand and supply, they are enabled to obtain the full value of their ex- FOUR-INCH MAINS FOR NEW TRACTS Miles of streets in subdivisions just beginning to be built up will receive four-inch cast iron pipe instead of two-inch wrought iron pipe when the new water mains are laid. City Manager J. W. Price indicated today. With only a house or two on a street a two-inch pipe furnished all the water necessary, but this condition will soon be changed when building development becomes active. The new mains will be paid for out of the $110,000 bond issue recently approved at the polls. The size of street mains is regulated by the amount of population. At the pumping plant and over the principal street Center a 12-inch main This size is graduated low as four inches, because not heavily built. Price hasn't studied supply problem thorougly admitted today that the big reservoir to serve Santa Ana and Orange Jerton, etc., added if want to come in, apply the only solution. FULLERTON FOR NEW BOULEVARD Fullerton council is actively preparing for the project of widening Harvard-ave, the street with which North Lemon-st extended from Anaheim to Orangethorpe-ave will connect. Secretary George W. Reid of the C. of C. brought back this word to the city today, confirming reports that the new council, unlike the old, was favorably disposed. Some opposition exists, however, on the part of two ranchers. John H. Pfeninger, southwest corner of what will be North Lemon and Orangethorpe-ave, declines to consider deeding over any part of his ranch—contrary to his previous staff—and Mrs. Dorothy Burdorff on the Fullerton end of the new highway will need only 30 feet at $3000 per acre. Sixty feet is desired. Condemnation proceedings, if necessary, will assure success, regardless of the opposition of the two, Reid said. GETS NORTHERN ACREAGE Jack Mohr, one of Anaheim's popular young men, leaves next week for Sutter Basin where he will take charge of a 20-acre tract of land which he will plant to deciduous fruits. Sutter Basin is about 20 miles north of Sacramento. Mohr returned last evening from the north much pleased with the country. AT HOTEL VALENCIA Wm. Lucy, V. M. Bermett, H. Duncan, J. C. Gilbert, F. N.
