THREE CONVICTED MURDERERS SLAIN
STATE, PENITENTIARY, ED-DYVILLE, Ky., May 9.—Three convicted murderers—one a gray haired and gray bearded man of 70, atoned for their crimes in the electric chair within less than an hour early today.
With only perfunctory goodbyes, Frank Thomas, 70; George Weyck, 41, and Charles Miller, a negro, went to their executions shortly after midnight and within 43 minutes three bodies were in rough coffins.
It was the first triple execution in the history of Kentucky.
Thomas, the old man whose eleventh hour appeal to the U.S. supreme court for intercession and a stay of sentence was refused yesterday afternoon, was the first to go.
The former chief of Jefferson co. police, whom the records state has slain three men, walked to the chair unassisted. His step was firm and he carried himself with a touch of pride, as a man who is ashamed not to die with his head up.
"Good bye," he called to the mates who had shared the death cell with him.
"Good bye," again to the 40 prison officials, newspapermen and official witnesses in the death cell. Then he was strapped in and the black hood adjusted. The current—2000 volts—was turned on at 12:39. He was pronounced dead two minutes later.
George Weyck, for whom a last effort was made on the grounds of insanity, went to the chair at 1 a.m. He maintained he was innocent of the murder of his neighbor, William Oelke, whose children he employed and whose wife, it was charged, was ready to leave her home for Weyck.
Miller, the negro, convicted of slaying two guards at the Louisville, Henderson and St. Louis Ry. during the railway strike in October, 1922, was the last to go. He was placed in the chair at 3:15 a.m.
The bodies will be sent to rela-

LION HAS MANE
BUT SLICK NECK
"The Lion has mane, but he isn't a roughneck."
So declared Rev. Perry F. Schrock of Santa Ana today in an address before the local den at the weekly luncheon in the Elks' club.
Lionism is an organization teaching international fellowship, continued the speaker. It is a school instructing its great membership in high ideals. It calls forth culture, and encourages clean fun and humor minus all coarseness.
The pastor emphasized the value of "thinking your way thru" in regard to problems involving others—to know one is right and that one will not wrong one's fellow man. He commended courage and urged the doing of something useful.
Homer G. Eddy gave a five-minute craft talk.
It was decided not to join the big auto caravan to the State convention at Sacramento the latter part of this month, although a sizable delegation will represent the Anaheim den.
The fountain in city park will be completed by the end of the month, Leslie R. Wilson reported. A committee of arrangements was named, chairmaned by Charles Walker.

OREGON MAINTANS EMBARGO
PORTLAND, Ore., May 9.—In its report to Gov. Walter M. Pierce late Thursday, the livestock sanitary board recommended that no change in the strict embargoes against California products be made.
When it becomes apparent the hoof and mouth disease is not invading new territory in California, the board announced it will agree to issue new and modified regulations as adopted at the Salt Lake conference in March, except as these regulations apply to wool and other animal products, which remain on the prohibited list.
Recommendations of the livestock sanitary board were agreed upon after members of the governor's committee, sent to California to investigate conditions, had completed their report."
