URGE METHODISTS MOVE FOR PEACE SPRINGFIELD, Mass., May 5. United action by all branches of the Methodist church looking toward universal peace, was asked by President William B. McCutcheon of Queen College, Melbourne, Australia, addressing the Methodist Episcopal conference here today. He said the Methodist Episcopal church, the Methodist church South and the English Methodist church should unite in a declaration against wor. Bishop Homer B. Stunts of Omaha requested that he be placed on the retired list. He is a veteran bishop of the church and now in poor health. WOODWARD HEADS COUNTY BANKERS At the annual meeting of the Orange-co Bankers' Ass'n here J. M. Woodward, president of the First National Bank of Garden Grove, was selected president, succeeding H.-H. Benjamin of the First National, Anaheim; W. B. Williams, cashier of the First National of Santa Ana, vice-president; J. I. Hinkle, vice-president of the First National of Huntington Beach, secretary, and J. L. Porter, cashier of the National Bank of Orange, treasurer. Retiring President Benjamin presided as toastmaster at the banquet. S. C. Hartranft of Fullerton of the First National here, reviewed the history of banking. The speaker credited Pacific coast banks with responsibility for much of the progress in banking methods made. A. C. McCord, cashier of the Anaheim National, arranged the affair, which was held at the Elks' club. More than 300 were present. The decorations of May baskets of flowers were a feature. The Packard Radio orchestra of Long Beach entertained. ENGINE DERAILED; ENGINEER KILLED ENGINE DERAILED; ENGINEER KILLED TUCSON, Ariz., May 5.—Engineer G. A. Thumb of El Paso was killed shortly before 9 a.m. today when the Golden State Limited, crack S. P. passenger, was derailed at Ulmorls, five miles west of Lordsburg, N. M., according to S. P. officials here. Information given out here by the S. P. declared the train ran into an open switch, derailing the locomotive, baggage car and mail coach. The fireman jumped and was uninjured. Other than being slightly shaken up because of the sudden stop, passengers aboard the train were unhurt. No passenger cars were derailed. CLEAN UP Y. M. C. A. BUDGET CAMPAIGN The local Y. M. C. A. campaign for a general clean-up on the budget was opened today, the finance committee breakfasting at the "Y" building at 7:30 o'clock and lunching at the La Palma cafe at noon. The final report is to be given tonight at a 6 o'clock dinner at the La Palma. The goal was $1000, which was jacking in the budget campaign last autumn. Only those who had not subscribed in the former campaign were seen. Each committeeman had enlisted some one else to work with him. FULLERTON SHIPS 31 CARS ORANGES Thirty-one cars of oranges, five cars of lemons, nine cars of lettuce, and one car of cabbage were shipped from Fullerton last week. Twelve cars of oranges were shipped thru the No. Orange-co Citrus Exchange, six by the Osborne Fruit and Vegetable Co., eight by the Fullerton Packing Co., and five by the Randolph Marketing Co. The Exchange also shipped from Fullerton five cars of lemons, and the Osborne Fruit and Vegetable Co. nine cars of lettuce, two cars of cauliflower, and one car of cabbage. APRIL POSTOFFICE RECEIPTS JUMP business at the Anaheim poste woke up again in April and ripts amounted to $3623.23, paired with $3332.76 in April, a gain of $290.47. This brings the total for the months of this year nearly 10 ahead of the similar period last year, or $14,872.59 against $13,876.57 in 1923. The territory added to the rural deliveries by which an estimated 500 people were given service starting May 1, is being operated smoothly, Postmaster J. H. Whitaker said today.
